  1. Re:And??? on 'Back To the Mac' Media Event On October 20th · · Score: 1, Troll

I appologize, as I think that what I put in was not seen in the manner I was thinking it would (well, I figured that the negative stuff about Macs would get a troll). Here is the thing, I am not talking bad about Mac. I love OSX. I have no problems with it. Now if I want OSX, I need to run it through a virtual box. Me, personally, I am fine with that. The problem I see that not everybody else is. Yes, I know this is /., so most of the people here are comfortable with that. Now the thing is, I think it would be stellar if I did not need a virtual machine to run OSX. I should have also specified that if I wanted specs similar to my machine, it would easily cost 2000-3000 for similar specs on a Mac. I did say on my current specs machine in my post. I was only saying that for some of us, we simply do not have the extra cash for an entire Mac. Let's face it, virtual machines are cool and all, but to be able to run the OS straight up is way cooler.

Right on. I was only curious because I am guessing you had some sort of family plan since you mentioned your daughter. I was on the Cingular AT&T switch as well and my bill went from about 70 or 80 down to 60. I am guessing it was different because I was not on a family plan, but at the same time, not everybody got some huge bill from that switchover. That sucks that it happened to you. I guess I could see that situation. Now a situation where a person signs up for 400 minutes and talks for 800, that is much different. Maybe they could start shutting people's phones off when they go over if the people that go over become truly shocked when they go over their minutes. Just an idea. It would be like a bar tab that gets too high. I have been at multiple bars where if you and a group of friends are drinking and your tab gets too high, they will refuse to serve you drinks until you pay a portion of the bar tab. I am sure that other places do stuff like this as well. maybe cell phone companies can start the "your bar tab is too high" policy on people when they exceed their minutes

I would be excited if there was a way to run 10.7 on my current specs on my machine instead of having to drop 2000-3000 on an apple. Yes, I understand why it is done that way normally. You can see this as a troll post, but I am being honest, not trolling. I would be more than happy to switch to OSX if they worked out compatibility so that I can do what I do with *nix or windows and just install that on my main pc. 2000-3000 would get me an awesome upgrade on my current system that would blow a mac out of the water (unless I put OSX on there, than that would be cool). When it comes to new versions of OSX, that is the #1 main reason why I am never interested in those releases, but always interested in new Ubuntu or Windows versions that come out

That is a little ridiculous. Just look at shows based on filming cops and filming criminals. Many cruisers have cameras in the dash now to record what is in front of them.

You are still a servant to the law even though you help enforce it. You are not above the law. Your crimes need to be punished the same as mine.

Now, with cameras, if I can't film you, I will sue the crap out of you and the department if you film me. You are not Judge Dredd. Sorry peasant boy, you deal with the same stuff we do, even if you help enforce it. Next time try for detective or do better on your exam for it and you won't have to worry about it

To think this would not happen is honestly a little dumb. With how many iPhones are out there and how many people are still wanting to get iPhones, it was only a matter of time before AT&T decided to make extra money off of them.

I am glad I don't have an iPhone and that all my apps can be loaded through a microSD card for free.

Sometimes you have to pay the price to hop into the trends of today. Go ahead and get an Apple product, but you will pay an arm and a leg for it, even if the cost is not coming from Apple themselves

  15. Apparently only Humans exist anywhere on Weird Exoplanet Orbits Could Screw Up Alien Life · · Score: 1

This is something I see when I read articles about life beyond Earth all the time. The conditions for human survival are not possible, so it gets marked as "No possible way there could be life here and if there was life here, it was not complex".

I understand we know what we see, but I also think it is a very narrow and almost egotistical view and way of seeing things. Earth and our life is not the only life on any planet. We are not the only planet with life. I have no proof of complex life on other planets, but you would have to be out of your mind to assume that this is the only planet with life on it.

We compare everything to what is on Earth, but at the same time completely ignoring the fact that not every single planet is Earth.

It might be very possible for an entire complex species to exist on another planet without water. Maybe they require something else, something very different to us, like Helium or something.

With how much of a small percentage of the galaxy we have mapped, thinking that the conditions on Earth are what is needed for every single other complex lifeform just seems very egotistical. One of those, "If it is not like Earth, it can't happen".
