Exactly. This is like suing a casino for a gambling addiction instead of taking responsibility for one's addiction and getting help. If the kid was stupid enough to jump to his death, this is just a good example of Darwinism.

  2. My advice... on How To Balance Life And Technology For Kids? · · Score: 1

I am in nearly the same situation as you are since my son is currently 9 months old. Introduce technology that encourages your child to go outdoors. One thing I plan on doing with my child when he is old enough is Geocaching. I will show him how to use a computer to pick out various geocaches, map them out, and research the areas. Once we've done that, I'll show him how to use GPS to hunt down the geocache. The end result is that my son will learn a bit of technology and we'll spend quality time in nature instead of in front of a computer screen or television. I think the important thing is to foster a love of nature in your child before he/she discovers the entertainment value of a game console or a PC.

We need stiffer penalties against crimes like this. 6 months and $250,000? These execs stand to make tons more conducting illegal business than what they'll have to give up if they get caught. There has to be many more companies using illegal business practices in the US to get ahead, they just haven't been caught yet. This sentencing doesn't seem like it will be a real deterrent for that kind of behavior either.

I don't think I've ever seen "integrity and principles" in the same sentence as government. It is very disappointing that using those three words together is somewhat of an oxymoron, at least as it pertains to the US government.

And the price people pay for it has been steadily rising since the 80s. Very few people actually pull their signals for free from the air these days.

I should have been more specific. We don't pay for local television stations. With cable, you are paying to have your television stations delivered to you over a completely different infrastructure. Your cable bill goes to pay for the stations, the cable lines, and the cable company's advertising in your community. It would be different if the cable companies broadcast a signal because they wouldn't need to run all of the cable lines and associated equipment. But I digress.

I'm sure there are a lot of politicians who would do things differently if they had complete control. However, they have to answer to their constituents. It's highly unlikely that pseudoscience and religion in class, especially in the U.S., would garner much support from the public. If it was the popular opinion, you'd see politicians taking the time to draft legislation. No one wanted to ban the teaching of evolution in Georgia. The superintendent, Kathy Cox, wanted to ban the word "evolution" and replace it with "biological changes over time." Politicians were opposed to this change as was the general public which is why nothing ever came of it except a lot of public embarrassment for Kathy Cox.
