It's already been done. I've seen a video where it happened to be a practical viable solution to scouring a globe-shaped structure (IIRC used in refineries to store crude oil) for possible cracks or leaks. In fact, there was a line from its rear to the remote, almost like a real spider, and it was cool to see it crawling underneath the globe.
I believe the point-of-sale app should also be worth a mention in the summary; we may have a killer combination right there. An update to that effect would be nice, and provide credit where it's due. Or at least apologies to the software company for the omission would be proper.
Interesting. Did the water actually boil, or was that only like an impression? (A serious question, though.)
And I was curious like the high UID, I was thinking for a scientist, worked at NASA back in '65, I would expect a much lower UID in/. At least lower than mine.
My one big beef about GIMP is that it insists that you anchor the layer before you can move along. Heck, in Photoshop 5, I can stack as many layers as I want, return to one that I need to tweak, and save them like that in native format in case I would like to return to the project later.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. But that seems to knock it out of the competition.
For those of you who have struggled to make your favorite OS recognize some old, dated, or esoteric piece of hardware picked up from your latest dumpster dive, I bring you the status bar to end ALL status bars:
So that's it? Those are the three big things that makes KDE a Windows clone? Panel on bottom, lots of icons on desktop, lots of items in menus?
No, you have to have tried out a few releases of KDE to understand what he was talking about. To me, the three big things that made all my alarms go off and turned me OFF from KDE (for being too Windows-like) were:
OK - Apply - Cancel
It was too much of a Windows clone; why did they have to bring in all the annoying bits like that? I haven't tried out the latest version, though, I could be wrong now. I still have it installed (for my root profile) just in case I want to use Koffice. Which is rarely.
...it had e17 on it and looked like none of the bland green meadows at work. But the 'money shot' was when I turned on 'snow' that I had personally tweaked so that instead of snowflakes, it was all bullet shell casings falling at varying speeds gracefully like rain.
Came to the right place to ask this question. As an experienced 3D gamer, I have experience in the technical aspects of hi-rez, SXyGA, starting from Dead or Alive to GTA: Hot Coffee. Go to Tools>Options>Video Menu. Turn the visual eye-candy off:

That should bump up your framerates. Betcha never heard that before, in that context, huh?
You peeps moaning about wireless, this is what I did.
D/loaded DamnSmallLinux and burned that to a 3in. CD. Detected my wifi/pcmcia card. Probably the fastest d/load of Mozilla I ever saw when I got online! And this is on an old Thinkpad600 (with a Pent266) and 300+M RAM, it'll keep me happy with my surfing & email needs. In fact, with the 'toram' option, this notebook is blazing fast for my needs.
To see if your wifi would work why not give DSL a spin, or for that matter other live miniCD distros from distrowatch.com? You'd be like checking to see how far Linux has gone in playing nice with the wireless card. They could be using that ndiswrapper but hey, hats off to those guys.
Au contraire, I *DID* manage to tear it out of the wall, and bring it with me.
However when I tried attaching it to the seatback of the airplane seat in front of me with my power drill, the attendant called the pilot so that I can be escorted --with a full security team!--quietly out of the plane.
So I was never able to complete the onboard capabilities of the laptop tray.

How small is the liveCD?
Oh, wait...
there are some rumours flying around that all the contestants are actually actors, and that the whole thing is actually a hoax on the viewers.
You could've just said, In Soviet Russia...
and we'd all understand, here in Slashdotland.
DAMM and here I am, struggling to fit my comments in that small box slashdot gives me...
I was wondering how to reinvent the Village People so they come back in a very big way. Thanks!
Also, to help out our sartorially-challenged geek comrades when they look at the upgraded line-up.
Maybe the tests were just a ruse? Y'know, to get his partner to say 'yes', despite everything?
Oh, and the modem is given for free, and is a wifi access point

Go ahead, rub it in. Did you have to say it like that? "Oh, and..."
We already got that much from RingTFA.
Oh, wait...This is

/.! Why dont you try on the sweater she's knitting for you.
You're asking us? Seriously, you're in the wrong forum.
I've got a girlfriend
Now get the fuck out of

That's why the first thing I did after installing Ubuntu was change the wallpaper to Cindy Crawford covering her ta-tas.
Oh, wait...
Campbell Scott still gets the girl (Kyra Sedgwick), and Kevin Bacon ...
Oh, wait. Kevin Bacon wasn't even in this movie. Damn.

You're wrong. Plasma is the word that is used in every episode of ST:TNG when they have to call it something.
My brothers and I would watch the show only to see if they did NOT mention it at all.

Damn Small Linux is Damn Impressive.
Not undeveloped, you insensitive clod!
