Don't think so. It is a pretty far out theory which has no real evidence and plenty of reasons why it does not hold up. But as I can't tunnel down to look, I guess anything is possible.

  6. There is never equality on Marx May Have Had a Point · · Score: 1

The problem with Marxism is that there is never equality among people and the human condition will always respond to it. Take my wife for example. She is a physician that usually works 50-60 hours per week. She also spent 8 years in med school and residency. You think for one moment she is going to work that hard (or at all) if she is not rewarded for her efforts and investment? Right. Lots of luck with that.

  7. Environemental issues too on Why Amazon Can't Manufacture a Kindle In the US · · Score: 1

The article ignores environmental issues that cost manufactures nothing but grief. I am not saying ALL environmental laws are bad, and industry has done lots of things in the past to hurt itself, but the effect is to act as a disincentive to produce things that will cost much more in the US (or western Europe) than overseas. By adding so much environmental regulation onto the back of industry, they just say "Screw it, move it to another country". Let them worry about the environmental impact. If the US and Europe want to get these jobs back, then the price of the products will have to get artificially inflated via tax or import duties to overcome these burdens.

  16. And it slows things down on Federally-Mandated Medical Coding Gums Up IT Ops · · Score: 1

As the spouse of a Physician (hospitablist) and a System Admin for a medical practice, I can tell you first hand that is a cluster f&*%. The effect this crap is to slow down physicians with tasks that they really should not be doing, (read data entry). That is exactly what these regulations are doing. And to keep productivity up, some doctors are resorting to hiring scribes who follow them around, just increasing costs that will get absorbed somewhere. It all looks good on paper but the effect is reducing productivity of the people on the front lines.

  17. Is this hypocritical? on Google Founders' Jets Caught On WSJ's Radar · · Score: 1, Insightful

Does this seem a bit hypocritical (at least perceived). I really don't care what they do with their money but this seems counter to their support of Anthropomorphic Global Warming. Oh sure they bought some carbon credits, but since the credits are a traded commodity, their extravagance resulted in higher prices for others seeking the same credits (supply-demand curve). Therefore, since others may not have purchased those credits due to the higher price, no overall benefit was realized. It seems to me that if you want to talk-the-talk then at least fly commercial first class - or shut the f%^& up. Flame suit on.

  18. Crappy phones on RIM Collapse Beginning? · · Score: 1

IMHO, it was RIMs service that made the company. Once others caught up they had to compete at the hardware level too. I for one find it shameful that politics (both sides are at fault) has resulted in this situation. Give NASA the means (funds) needed but don't restrict them to a preset supplier list or technology. Then sit back and let them do the job. Yes, there needs to be specifications, lets say deliver 4 people to LEO with X KG supplies, but otherwise leave them alone. I do hope that Dragon can ramp up faster since it now appears NASA will not be able to do so.

  21. Achilles Heel on Third Blast At Japan's Fukushima Nuclear Plant · · Score: 1

A while back I was watching World's Toughest Fixes and they would not show the cooling buildings at the nuke plant where the show was filmed. I guess that now makes sense (one can argue it is theater). Why blow up the reactor proper when you can go after a much softer target and achieve basically the same effect. I am all for nuclear power but this needs to be addressed IMHO.
