Would you prefer no cash discount is offered to customers who want to pay for a particular product using cash?
Yes. The 3% is their problem, not mine. By offering CC as a payment form, they are increasing their potential sales. Any place that is cash only or has "minimum credit card" (I thought was a violation of V/MC rules?) restrictions, loses my business. They are too ignorant to realize this, and also lack the necessary business skills to run a profitable company without resorting to such tactics as cash-discounts and minimums. CC Merchant accounts are a service for THEM, not me. I can take my business elsewhere, and do.
While looking into this for a post on my blog I came across the same numbers. IBM donating 500 patents seems really lame when they got 1300 this year alone and have led the US for the PAST 12 YEARS. I know IBM is a linux friendly company, but they are still a company and they are still patent happy. Now, it could be that they are protecting themselves from other people patenting their technology but still, it is interesting.
I made the analogy that IBMs release of those 500 patents is the technological equivalent of picking through their garbage: they obviouslly don't have use for it anymore.
One ten-year study in Sweden suggests that heavy mobile users are more prone to non-malignant tumours in the ear and brain while a Dutch study had suggested changes in cognitive function. A German study has hinted at an increase in cancer around base stations, while a project supported by the EU had shown evidence of cell damage from fields typical of those of mobile phones.
Absolutely nothing concrete, just enough to get these researchers more funding. I read about this yesterday and really all they were saying is that since children are more subsceptible to these kinds of risks that they shouldn't give cell phones to children under eight. Well...I wouldn't give them one for other reasons, not for some off chance they might have a higher risk of cancer.
I was going to submit this story but then I read a few copies of it, realized it was meaningless and didn't. I guess the editors thought better;)
I agree, and one of the problems with open source tends to be the lack of user documentation. Being an English major, I try to contribute when I can (to Gentoo) but with mozilla I think it's a different story:
Is there documentation for IE?
Not really. The web browser really, for the average user (and those are who we worry about switching from IE), is a point and click affair. It should stay that way too. The preference menus are pretty well labeled, so if you need to change something, chances are you'll find it. What has to be remembered is that most people are just going to click n run. That means the default configurations should be set so the majority of internet users can employ Mozilla without a hitch.
I just don't really see what needs to be documented from an end user's perspective about mozilla.
No, you are wrong. With the "merger" of Cingular and ATTWS and the elimination of competition this is false. Cingular charges for incoming text messages, whether unsolicited or not. It doesn't take a genius to see how the now largest cell phone company charging for incoming, unsolicited messages is a BAD thing.
Stallman may be fanatical but you must be blind. I see companies embracing open source and thriving. And you know what. Open source was here before their was a market for it, and it will be here after if it comes to that.
Wow. Ummm...cut scenes serve a purpose. Go play MGS3.... amazing cut scenes that contribute to the movie...er I mean game you are playing. Its one game my girlfriend likes watching since it plays out so movie like.
I play Enemy Territory all the time. As well as the UT series and Quake as well. Doom 3 is coming soon. Neverwinter Nights was fun and I can tackle a good number of games using Cedega.
These discussions are always so pointless. As you said, of course windows has the most games. If you want the latest, or even a good selection- you must run windows.
Interestingly enough, the only games I really find more enjoyable on PC vs my PS2 or Xbox are FPS. And those are the ones best supported under linux. So the one are PCs dominate in gaming: fps, is actually relatively supported on linux- atleast by the big TWO (id/epic)
Umm no. The movie industry is most notorious for cooking the books, they are the master of it. Do not be fooled that their movies "fail to turn a profit", they are doing quite well. How do you think they pay the million dollar actors?
How can one pity a coporation for not making enough money, I don't know. They are turning a fine profit, or they wouldn't exist. That they have you buying their not-turning-a-profit bullshit, like they take risks on movies for us, is a sign of their marketing paying off.
Why should we artificially protect that which is not REAL property? It is not a right of theirs, but a privelege. The people aren't benefiting anymore, and it's time to revoke it.
Nevermind, it IS in there.... bash-2.05b# emerge -p planeshift
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

The 2004 games have already been released. They play as normal. Im interested in how 2005 games will be, whether they will include europe stats and such in player profiles and if they will mention the lockout- if it ever ends.
You work for....a company who is going to drag people into court and force them to settle under its mighty legal fund?
Wow. Not really impressive. So-called "piracy" and more importantly, the RIAA's and MPAA's tactics are getting more and more press. To date, I know of few cases of people being busted. Sued civilly by greedy and useless corporations, sure. But not busted.
I cannot wait until I am done with law school and can contribute, knowledgeably, to the defense of such bullshit and hopefully the creation of more realistic and fair and beneficial laws. This artificial IP shit is harming the American consumer more than ever.
Grammar slackers often make fun of grammar nitpickers, saying "they know what I mean." Well, not in this case.
funny, you seemed to know what he meant despite his incorrect grammar.
Since when does pointing to someone else doing something wrong vindicate you?

Mod me down but why the disclaimer from Michael? When has Slashdot ever verified anything?
I don't expect them too, thats not what I believe their job is, but don't act like you guys ever would or even could.

There is no real proof of anything.
;)

edonkey2000
kazaa lite
tightvnc
Atleast it labels tightvnc correctly as a commercial remote control. The others are listed as adware bundlers.
This is a sad day for computing. Microsoft is going to leverage their monopoly in yet another area.

Why, cause its a cube?
Nobody goes to random mirrors. I suspect the mozilla developers choose and trust their mirror operators.
hahahahaha
you are an idiot
Funny, I didn't know that me downloading a song was a crime.
Not to mention, unlike murder...IP is not something that you will the citizens collectively and nearly uninamously wanting laws for.

Or in 100 years it will be even worse.
you got halo 2 for 14?
wow he must be lazy...doesn't take but two seconds to find out.
