Could we pleeease update the Handhelds Icon? I mean we are talking about a 200Mhz phone with 256MB ram. The Palm does not really suit this topic fine anymore. I know it's just eyecandy but it happend to the Apple-icon when it got outdated. And while you're at it, update the Gnome icon as well. That would be neat.
And yeah, I am still using a Palm III here. As a universal remote control.;-)
When was the last time you looked at a Linux System? Even so-called "diehard" Distros like Debian or Slackware can handle such a task quite fine. If you use a cam that can be mounted as a USB-Drive youre all set. Plugin, mount (under Gnome using Rightclick on the Desktop). If not get one of these and get gphotolib. It couldnt be any easier.
People in suits talking to machines on next years CeBit while trying to demonstrate that it really works, "yeah, it does!", while all I can see is that dialing on my Nokia 6210 outperforms any voice recognition attempt by minutes. Sorry for beeing cynical, but I was promised these kind of things since back from 0S2-Warp days and everything so far was crap.
If Microsofts attempt on handwriting recognition is any indication, this thing will fail terribly. Have you ever tried to use a Tablet? You must be a real bad typer if this makes you more productive.
Just my guess, please proof me wrong since these things would be really cool if it worked.
So that would make them X11 then? Well, confusing. Whats more, What are these popups you speak of? Use a decent browser and you wont have them...not at all.
If you buy this phone, Microsoft gets your money. Install what ever you want, you STILL payed for it.
On another issue Im not really sure if it is a bright idea to install linux on this beast. You would at least have to rewrite the drivers for the digicam and the phone. Have fun and call me when its done. I might pick one on ebay for a buck by then...;-)
They are genuises. I'm still LMAOF. If only Lindows wouldn't suck as much as it does I would be a convert now. That's really neat. I mean: "Prices going l-o-a-r now, really l-o-a-r now..." That's totally funny!

I just aliased my ls and now it's only "aia". Weird!
Err...yeah, maybe. But still, I don't see where all the space goes. Using a full Slackware install including Dropline requires a measly 2GB over here with ALL the apps and officesuites I could ever want. I just don't see why it HAS to be that big... It doesn't even use the new 3D rendering engine for the Desktop yet.

it feels weird to think about your answer. If I understand it correct you are suggesting that only on the inside the rules of physics apply but not on the outside. Since Im human I cannot grab the idea although it feels right. Whenever I think:"Yup, got it" my thoughts spin back to zero and I have to start over again. Argh! Stop it! No, really, NOW! Aiik!
Yup, that's my main concern about bringing the guide to the screen. It's just that it's not the books story that's funny, it's the british humor of the writing that made me spill my coffee and gave me funny looks on subwayrides while laughing loud. I seriously doubt Hollywood is up to the task. I will ga and watch the movie, though. Anyways, the best and most important book Adams wrote was "Last chance to see". Get it if you haven't already.
Hi, my favorite pen is a Lamy safari. I use it with a Z25 Converter. It's basically a small pump wich lets you refill the ink with any standardink. Works great, and good for the planet. By the way, Lamy really rocks. Great design and durability.
Well, as you pointed out Microsoft is a software vendor and Apple sells Hardware. But Software can be cool, just look at Linux. Like it or not, Tux is veeeery popular because he's cute and cool.
My sister used to have a Tux-postcard in her room for years without knowing what it was about, it just looked "cool" to her. So Microsoft needs to find a way to reinvent their product as an emotional brand.
They could start with a new logo and give people some obvious gadgets that makes them feel cool. Such as Desktop Eyecandy or Eastereggs and so on. Maybe they should relaunch Windows under a different label with some added features that are only available in the "cool", limited edition, it would be enough to strip IE from it and name it Windows lite or find some cool uses for their ill Tablet-PCs that makes them more desireable, such as an waterproof-outdoorversion or whatever...They could also invent a younger, stylish brand with a cooler name such as Macrohard that has no obvious connection to Microsoft at all. Another move could be to release a bugfixed version of last years OS and call it "Windows gold", the OS for those that take stability over features...
But, honestly, I better shut up know before I get them any ideas.;-)
Yeah, that's why I think IBM did the right thing. BigBlue was considered to be one of the most conservative companies around but when they started to market Linux the coolness factor of Linux added to IBM. But the same strategy won't work for Microsoft, I guess...hehe!
I personally believe that Bill should tape a Bionic Eye to his head, you know like the Borg from Star Trek. That would look definetly cool. Err...nevermind!;-)

While were at it: What really rocked my world was the Atari Portfolio. I could never afford one so I got one on ebay a few months ago. Its serves as a really neat terminal for configuring firewalls and stuff via a serial conn.
Yeah, this one came to my mind the minute I read the comment. It's really a beauty. Can't wait to get mine...yumyum!
