For instantiating a UI at runtime, take a look at QFormBuilder. It is in the QtDesigner library, which does compile as a shared library, and therefore is LGPL friendly. I'm not exactly sure why they have both QFormBuilder and QUiLoader, since they both do the same thing but provide differing interfaces.
I'd recommend checking out the latest version of Qt. (4.4.0 was recently released, and now even includes a WebKit widget.) As of version 4.1, I think, it includes a module called QtScript which is a full JavaScript interpreter that can integrate very easily with your C++ code. You don't have to have a GUI to use Qt -- it is split into several libraries and you can easily omit the GUI libraries, and just use QtScript, if you'd like. Plus it has an excellent API that is a real pleasure to work with. Not to mention cross platform!
Hmm, this sounds like an advertisement -- they're not paying me, I swear! I am just a very satisfied user (been using Qt for more than 5 years).
I can build a screaming machine for under $1000 -- a similar machine would cost me $3000 on Apple hardware.
Really? You can build me this machine for under $1000:
Dual Quad-Core Xeon (8 cores total) @2.8 GHz
2 GB of 800 MHz FB-DIMMs
320 GB Hard Drive
Double-layer DVD burner
Video card w/ two Dual-Link DVI outputs
FireWire 800
Dual Gigabit Ethernet
Bluetooth 2.0
A good case (i.e. it won't scrape my knuckles every time I open it up)
Keyboard / mouse
And don't forget the software...
UNIX Operating System with a good GUI (and, no, sorry Linux is not quite there yet.)
Backup software
Video editing and DVD authoring software
Audio editing and tracking software
That's what you get in a mac for $3000 ($2799 to be exact). You're telling me you can build a machine just like that for under $1000? Seriously? What, are you planning to steal the CPUs? Those ALONE would cost more than $1000 on Newegg.
That's nothing... I actually remember Chips & Dips, before Slashdot existed. But, like many old-timers I guess, I am also very reluctant to register for a web site unless I absolutely have to. And, I post very rarely. So, by the time I actually got around to registering I ended up with a 6-digit uid even though I've been around from the very beginning.
Haha, so I guess this is a new twist on the classic low-uid pissing match... the I've-been-around-longer-but-with-a-higher-uid pissing match. Awesome.
I will wholeheartedly second, or third, or whatever, the suggestion of Quicksilver. It has revolutionized the way I interface with my computer. WAY better than a Start Menu. It's first an application launcher, but once you start using it, you will discover that it is also so much more.
Here's a link: Quicksilver. It's free. Get it. Use it. Love it.
Yes, when the man who dies does it willingly, in order that the other man may be set free. That is more just than simply letting the crime go unpunished altogether.
Hate the sin:
If God hated the sin and not the sinner then when sinners came before it for judgement (according to the bible) it would cast the sin to hell and not the people (souls) themselves. Because lets face it if God existed then he could do anything, including seperating sin from sinners. And if God really loved everyone then it would do that for them.
I don't post often, and usually stay out of these arguments/discussions, but I just had to reply to you. In fact you've hit the nail on the head! "Separating sin from sinners" is EXACTLY what God has done for us, and offers to everyone who will accept it. This is truly the essence of Christianity. Jesus died on the cross* to accomplish that. The fact of the matter is, lots of people do not want to be separated from their sin, and God allows them the freedom to make that choice.
* You may ask, if God is all powerful, then why go through all this business of dying? It's actually because in addition to being all powerful, God is perfectly just -- and someone had to take the punishment we all deserve, or else He would no longer be just. See Romans 3:21-26.
I've never used the Sennheiser earbuds, but I'm assuming they're of the same type as the Sonys the parent post referred to -- they are different from "normal" earbuds like the type that would've come with your Samsung player, in that they are designed more like earplugs. They have a silicone piece that sticks into your ear and makes a seal, actually blocking out the ambient noise. Just putting them in, with nothing playing, is like putting in earplugs. Everything goes quiet. Then you can listen to your music at a lower volume, because it doesn't need to compete with the outside sound.
1. Someone has an idea.
2. The EE's and I fabricate it.
3. You CS guys make it perform its purpose.
4. IT guys make sure it keeps performing its purpose.
So, you're saying that the EE guys build something that doesn't work, and it takes a CS guy to make it work? Sounds like the CS guys are the most important link in that chain!:)
Well that's weird. That result definitely wasn't there when I posted it originally!
So... that must mean only one of two things! Either their database was being updated, or... OR... THEY ARE TRYING TO COVER UP THEIR CONSPIRACY! That must be it!!! Oh no!!!
Hmm. This is interesting.. Compare searches for "tiananmen square" on the english-language version of accoona.com with their own chinese-language site:
First search result on the english page is titled "Fifteenth Anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre." That page doesn't even show up at all in the results on the chinese-language version.
Oh yeah! Slim Cessna's Auto Club is excellent! Also check out their friends from the Denver scene, 16 Horsepower. One of my favorite bands ever, and one of the most original voices in modern music.

What you're describing already exists. It's called Audible.
Well, I live in Chicago, and have AT&T Wireless. I can assure you, they seem to be having major problems lately. It wouldn't surprise me at all if people are getting dropped calls at Old Orchard with AT&T. I've had calls drop while driving along Lake Shore Drive! Lake Shore Freakin' Drive! It's wide open there!
I've been seriously thinking about switching carriers, but nobody currently can match the price plan I have (34.99 for 550 anytime minutes + free nights & weekends; nobody is offering a plan like that anymore, not even AT&T). So I've been reluctant to switch, especially when I'm not sure if any other company would be any better.
Oh man, I have a friend that does the exact same thing! Anybody want to write a definitive cell-phone etiquette guide that includes this particular behavior?

Who uses land lines anymore though? That wouldn't work with a mobile phone.

Of course he's single. He's posting on Slashdot. Duh.

You can resize the columns. Just grab the little handle with the two little vertical lines right below the scrollbar and drag it over to the right.
Hey, we're almost neighbors! I work in Libertyville, just next door to Vernon Hills. I live in Chicago, though. Heck of a commute! :)

And, here is the original image in Corbis.
So, as always, Slashdot is wrong. It is from 1985, not 1983. But, amazingly enough, it actually is Bill Gates, and it is real.
You could, if you could find the corner. Good luck to you, sir.

If you look carefully at that message, you'll see the link is not to www.earthlink.net, but rather it is to curvet.co.kr:

Seems pretty clearly not a legitimate link, and therefore fraud, to me.
