  14. Blue collar workers have dealt with this forever. on U.S. Jobs Jumping Ship · · Score: 1

Ever hear all those people complain about Americans buying foreign cars and how it's hurting the US economy? Well now it's come to the white collar workers. Companies are hiring out people overseas because they are cheaper than an American with the equivalent skills. I think anyone that drives a foreign car can't complain about loosing their IT job to a foreign market.

But I must add I think this is a good thing. A global economy is much more efficient than a secluded economy. Cheaper employees means cheaper goods. Countries with different laws, skills, geography and culture can specialize in different areas and work in those areas more efficiently. Specialization is better than being a jack-of-all-trades.

  16. Is China the next Japan? on China's 64bit Homegrown CPU · · Score: 4, Interesting

People used to hate products like electronics that came out of Japan. They used to be considered cheap crappy imitations. Now Japan is one of the most respected countries producing electronics, if not the best.

So may China be next? China has a reputation for developing cheap goods and electronic equipment, but they seem to be getting better and better. Maybe someday soon they will be producing electronics as good, if not better, than any other country. The added benefit is that China doesn't follow all the same patent and copyright issues as other countries so they are truly free to innovate and compete. This coupled with Chinas new more positive view on Captitalism and China could become the new super power.

If the government knows they'll get 11,000$ for every illegal telemarketing call, you know they are going to spend every possible effort to collect it. They could hire people who's job is to hunt down these illegal phone calls. Just 4 calls in the entire nation each year would pull in 44,000$, enough to pay someone fulltime to track these calls.

Just think of how much effort the government goes to get a few extra hundered dollars off your tax form, so what do you think they will do to get an extra 11,000$ for a bad phonecall?
