Let me explain: How do terrorists commit their acts? They have bombs, they strap their body with bombs and go kamikaze, same with hijaacks. So what do they understand? "if we have something that can destroy them all, they won't touch us", put that into practice and put a nuclear detonator on the device :), you shoot? Blam! wrong move.

Hmm this started as a joke, but the more I think of it, heh, the more I'd almost laugh seeing their face taken in pictures by a spy plane of all their camps and them looking at it without daring shooting it down in case it might release something nasty over them. That way you gather all the intelligence needed without killing to many soldiers, of course some are totally stupid and will shoot it down and get blown up to bits (so less troubles for the millitary to close down the camps).

I'm not a rocket scientist, I've acted like any Net user should do, patching and antivirus are something common in the windows world, bitch as much as you want, if you've done you're homework properly, chances are you didn't get affected by this. Of COURSE some will (people that got it before let's say the Norton update was available), but if everybody would have done his job right, the threat would have been contained and not as big as it is right now.

Paying for norton antivirus? well last time I checked it was about 30$ for an OEM copy, that's nothing compared to paying 40$ for a C00l K-RaD cooler or overpriced pentium IV is it? If you're able to spend 1000$ on a box, spending 30$ for protecting it is an investment.

What I find unacceptable is people that, one week after code red was announced, were still infected and probing my servers. That's irresponsible, and I agree with shutting them down until they fix the problem. Please don't bullshit with freedom and similar crap related issues, if your freedom means slowing down or crashing other people's net experience, it's called BEING SELF-CENTERED and irresponsible. ISP have a responsibility to ensure that the maximum of their userbase aren't affected by any crisis, a complete shutdown may be a bit drastic, but if it's the way to educate people (since it seems that people didn't learn from code red) well, I'm all for it.

'I just saw the top of Trade Two come down.'

By HELEN O'NEILL-- The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP)-- It was the scene of a nightmare: people on fire jumping in terror from the Trade Towers just before the buildings collapsed.

"Everyone was screaming, crying, running, cops, people, firefighters, everyone," said Mike Smith, a fire marshal from Queens, as he sat by the fountain outside the Supreme Court building, shortly after the second tower collapsed. "A couple of marshals just picked me up and dragged me down the street."

"It's like a war zone. There are many injured."

This was the horror unfolding in New York City in the wake of an apparent terrorist attack.

"I just saw the building I work in come down," said businessman Gabriel Ioan, shaking in shock outside City Hall a cloud of smoke and ash from the World Trade Center behind him. "I just saw the top of Trade Two come down."

Nearby a crowd mobbed a man on a pay-phone, screaming at him to get off the phone so that they could call relatives. Dust and dirt flew everywhere. Ash was 2 to 3 inches deep in places. People wandered dazed and terrified.

"People were jumping out of windows," said an unidentified crying woman. "I guess people were trying to save themselves. Oh my God!"

"I was in the World Financial Center looking out the window," said one woman. "I saw the first plane and then 15 minutes later saw the other plane just slam into the World Trade Center."

Another eyewitness, AP newsman Dunstan Prial, described a strange sucking sound from the Trade Center buildings after the first building collapsed.

"Windows shattered. People were screaming and diving for cover. People walked around like ghosts, covered in dirt, weeping and wandering dazed."

"It sounded like a jet or rocket," said Eddie Gonzalez, a postal worker at a post office on West Broadway. "I looked up and saw a huge explosion. I didn't see the impact. I just saw the explosion."

Morning commuters heading into Manhattan were stranded as the Lincoln Tunnel was shut down to incoming traffic. Many left their cars and stood on the ramp leading to the tunnel, staring in disbelief at the thick cloud of smoke pouring from the top of the two buildings.

On the streets of Manhattan, people stood in groups talking quietly or watching on television at ground-level network studios.

Joan Goldstein, communications project leader for The Associated Press, was on a bus from New Jersey at about 8:50 a.m. when she saw "smoke pouring out of the World Trade Center building. We said, 'Oh, my God! The World Trade Center's on fire!"

Perhaps 10 minutes later, "All of a sudden, there was an orange plume, a huge explosion. It shot out the back of the building. Everybody on the bus was just moaning and gasping," said Goldstein, who wept and trembled as she spoke.

The plume was from the second plane, but she didn't see the plane because of the thick smoke.

She tried to call friends who work there, but couldn't get through.

"It was the most horrible thing I've ever seen in my life," said Goldstein.

My personnal feeling always been, if these people (RIAA/MPAA/etc) would have been COMPETENT and not sitting on their cashcow strategy, and would have been LISTENING and OPENED to new technologies to advance their mean of distribution, they would have seen MP3 comming, heck it took MP3 over 2 years to slowly take off... they would have had enough (WAY enough) time to strike a deal to kill it while it was still little, or better yet, do something better than mp3 and strike deals with hardware manufacturer and instore their digital right things in a non-intrusive way, aka, make it so it's exactly the same trouble than copying cds, not worse. (It took quite a while for 3rd party to come out with mp3 cdplayers, and all the gadgets)... They could have catched up and beat mp3 before it's popularity.

Intel really doesn't deserve ANY credits for "innovation". Maybe in 4 years from now they'll "innovate" enough to catch up with the theorical bar that alpha would have been at in the same timeframe, then again, not without stealing some alpha technology.
