I guess it doesn't matter that the statement you key on is bracketed between statements that clearly indicate that it was a registered domain at the time the book was published: The domain was there first, so it can stay.
When the book was written, the domain "katie.com" was not registered. Therefore anybody was/is allowed to use the words "Katie.com" as the title of a book. (This is confirmed bt the fact that the owner of the domain never did anything against the publishers of the book.)
Seems to me the poster didn't fully articulate that they were talking about trademark registration as opposed to domain registration. They probably should have written, 'When the book was written, the domain "katie.com" was not registered as a trademark.' But for those who can read in context it seems pretty clear.
Hey, why don't they pay out that promised money for forwarding all those emails to Bill could test that email tracking software? I mean, I musta sent that thing to several hundred people expecting to reap big cash rewards and I haven't even seen a dime!
I go to matinees. Not much more than a rental and I get to see it on the big screen. Now, if you're paying for a family (my kids are all grown) renting is obviously the low dollar option.
Out of curiosity, how does one go from 26 months of unemployment and then to a 40% decrease in pay? It sounds like it should be the reverse....
I'd agree if you presuppose that there's only one story worth seeing in theaters. Since this is based on I, Robot in name only, the story is totally different and may be worth the viewing or may not, but it'll have to stand, like all movies, on its own merit.
Tolkien didn't rubber stamp the LOTR trilogy either, but that doesn't reflect whether or not the movies themselves were able to stand on their own.
How does knowing what it's not tell you that it won't be worth seeing on the big screen? Seems there'd be a pretty limitless range of what it might be that could make it worth your while (or not).
No. They keep it in a big vault and Bill dives into it every afternoon, emulating his childhood hero Scrooge McDuck....

I think you meant Feynman
Given that they don't know much about him they probably meant "Fanny-man" (perhaps a reference to the goatse guy). Go back and re-read the post with "Fanny-man" and see if it works....
Multiple line support? Is it similar to what I do in ksh by typing 'v' in command mode and pulling the multiline command into vi or is it something different?
Are you saying that I can use:g/something/s//something_else/g
and globally replace every occurance of "something" in history? Is there a way to restrict that to a particular multi-line command or does it do that by default (since I can't see replacing stuff not pertinent to the task at hand)?
If he were on Who Wants to be a Millionaire his earnings would be capped. If he continues to hang in there he'll pass the one million mark on Jeopardy.
The amazing thing is that he usually goes into final jeopardy so far ahead of the other two contestants that he could wager ten grand and miss the question while the other two wager everything they have and get it right and he still comes out on top!
Yup...next thing you know...they'll try to quit paying you for after hours work.
I think that's the case for most of the IT staff among us anyway.
My company doesn't pay for broadband. I live an hour away. I pay for dial up (and use the T-1 at work when I need something big). When there were problems recently I had to tell them it's difficult to do the work at dial-up speeds.
When they asked if I was thinking about moving to broadband I said I think about it all the time. Right now I'm foolishly squandering my funds on food, shelter, transportation and medical bills. If they let me work from home several days a week, I could offset broadband by the subsequent reduction in transportation costs.
They didn't like that so they're looking into paying for broadband....
Yep. I originally had it as "Hear, here..." which would have made the deliberate misspelling obvious and I should probably have left it that way. It struck me as funny running on empty yesterday. Much less so today when I'm rested...
why does everyone feels its their responsability to correct other ppls spelling online?
Here, here! I applaud you for standing up for the pimples who can't spell. If more people would just understand that the pimples do not have brains like we do, we would marvel at their ability to even post a message with all of their cognitive processes being carried out by a core of dirt surrounded by gooey pus.
Its not like these ppl are trying to turn in papers etc with that spelling.
...they'll tell you they were either curious what it was like...
How does that differ from seeing "everyone else doing it" and wanting to try it? Curiosity is part of peer pressure (or peer dependence since pressure from peers you don't care to be like doesn't amount to much of an influence).

More likely it was just other mods with clearer heads.
Don't underestimate a true scammer. Chances are this is a number he picked out of the phone book...
Except the guy called him at that number and actually talked to him.
Thanks for the picture. Now that I've had a look it raises a question. Is the "Y" key only red "sometimes"?
Doh! :g/to Bill/s//so Bill/

Such incisive commentary. You certainly have a keen intellect for this sort of thing.

the only shell that supports working 'vi' style history editing
Are you talking about something beyond what I can get with "set -o vi"?
If I had to go to Iraq, I wouldn't mind having a chip in me so I could get rescued if I were taken hostage.
I thought there needed to be proximity before they could be detected and they didn't work well through barriers like walls.
If that's the case, you should get two chips so they can find your head as well as your body once they're tossed out into the open....
Great. I'm sure RIAA will see this as vindication of their sue the customer policies. "See, they've moved on to other media since we started..."

Back in the seventies we all got up every morning and put something tachyon.

Actually, many of them are....
The non-profit receiving the funds is the MPAA.
I've got to say that this is the funniest thread I've seen here in a long time. Of course, it could just be the work of one AC....
