Which is really sad, because (when the drivers worked properly) the cards I've had from them in the past were great. The X-Fi on Windows 7 really was good, and did give a noticable improvement over the on-board audio on my mobo. But you are quite right: they are certainly driving me away and I'm fairly sure I will not even bother putting the X-Fi back in my computer now.
Although I suppose one (good?) thing Creative did was show me what the new (friendlier!) blue screen in Windows 8 looks like: http://i.imgur.com/lk57d.png
I've been using Windows 8 since it was released on MSDN/TechNet on three computers (two desktop machines and an ultrabook). I'm getting used to it, and actually starting to like the interface.
My biggest gripes:
- driver/software support for my Samsung Series 9 for Windows 8 is currently non-existant (all h/w installed fine, touchpad is a bit flaky though)
- driver support from Creative for my SB XFi is pretty pathetic, and buggy
Otherwise, it seems to run smoother and overall feels more polished. Yes, I know this is/. and I'm speaking positively about Windows 8--so I clearly must be a paid Microsoft shill or out of my mind. Honestly however, I think a lot of people are making noise and whining about a product just to say "hey look at me!" more than anything. Of course, I'm speaking entirely from a consumer standpoint. I can see some of the UI changes (notably the removal of the start menu) to be a problem for enterprise users. I can't speak to the changes/improvements/etc. for enterprise management and such (re: 'portable windows' on USB?)
No offense, but how are you only managing to scrape a $50k salary after 16 years of (I assume) work experience in mechanical engineering? Just trying to understand the circumstance here--AFAIK you should be making well more than that by now.
They caution, however, that there is no way of knowing whether the hackers are Chinese, or some other nationality routing their cybercrimes through China to cover their tracks.
So really, this whole posting is just speculation. Some agencies in Canada were hacked, possibly by Chinese interests and possibly by little green men from Mars looking to understand the moose population more.
What about vegans and vegetarians? Since this meat (if I am understanding this correctly) does not come directly from an animal, and rather is GROWN much like a vegetable/fruit (in a sense), will we now open up a new avenue to our vegan friends? Nah, probably not. More fake-meat for me!
What contract? I'm just curious, this isn't a flame post. If Visa did indeed sign some kind of contract stating they would provide credit card service for X number of years, then yes there's a problem. Otherwise, if nothing was signed stating such a thing, I don't see any laws being broken. IANAL, so if I'm wrong someone please tell me.
I love seeing hardware being hacked and used for purposes other than what it was designed for. To me, that is the essence and lifeblood of true innovation and engineering.
Sidenote: why is this article tagged "microshit"? Really?
I predict that by supporting you, I will also get modded down to oblivion. I also believe that the vast majority of/. readers will not even RTFA and just immediately post shouting angrily about how the report was fixed by Microsoft, and has no credibility.
Stop drinking the anti-VZ kool aid. On four different Android phones on Verizon, nothing you said holds true (Droid, Incredible, Droid X, Droid 2). Yes, there are APPS that Verizon makes exclusive, such as VZ Navigator or the account manager...but really? No one is forced to use Bing or anything.
Not allowing someone to use the iTunes apps store with an iPhone is synonymous to selling an Android phone without the battery. I also believe Apple would have a slight problem with Verizon trying to do such a thing.
My god pull your head out of the sand. The point is they were classified documents in the first place, hence putting the names there was standard operating procedure. Why should you censor a classified document, if it's already classified. If the informants names were that big an issue, the documents would be classified at a higher level, instead of just secret. The circular logic makes my head hurt.
How I wish I had mod points. Please mod parent up, this is a great view from the otherside of things, instead of the mindless drivel that generally populates much of the/. comments when articles about Wikileaks come up.
Mod parent up. I currently am running the latest Sapphire ROM on my Droid (shamefully, I have not yet tried Cyanogen). They had the exact same "issue"--a C&D was sent stating they could not bundle the stock Google apps with their ROM. However, instead of essentially killing the project by doing this, they provided an alternative--a separate update.zip file that you would install after the main ROM, which placed the stock Google apps back on your device. I am happy to see a company doing something like this--it's unheard of. I could never see Microsoft or Apple doing something similar, at least at this point in the game! Props to ALL the Android modders out there, and Google. I absolutely love the Android platform, and have no regrets.
I absolutely agree. I enjoyed the movie when I saw it in IMAX 3D. After trying to watch it on my laptop, I realized the draw I had to the movie was the incredible visual effects. I have to give Cameron serious props: he raised the bar for everyone in terms of "3D done right" and the power of CG. I still find it hard to believe the movie was completely CG.
Once the shock and awe of the stunning visuals and beautiful soundtrack and effects wore off, I realized it wasn't that great of a movie. Fairly basic in plot, and completely predictable. Enjoyable merely because I saw it on an enormous screen, in 3D, with a very loud (and expensive) sound system.
Because unofficial public betas are a great way to evaluate, test, and fix your product. See Siri and iOS maps.

Chance is now about 20% for 29 December. This ABC article is a bit alarmist and unnecessarily scaring the masses.

Clearly, there are too many spies SAPPIN' MA SENTRIES.
Have you ever kissed a girl?
...and all of /. waits with bated breath for Nicole Stott's answer.
P=NP when N=1. There I solved it, where's my $1 million?
We can only hope the computer overloads.

Numbers? What are those?

But Fox News didn't tell me about it, so clearly it doesn't matter!
My feeble mind is having a hard time reading "Price per Megabit per second" or "$2 per megabit per second".
Too many pers. And not enough cats.
DeBeers has taught me that the only REAL diamond is from mined from the earth, possibly covered in blood.

Now I need a beer and it's only 12:30PM.
Can't we all, just like, you know, get along?

To think that several years ago, a 64GB SSD was the size of a laptop hard drive and ridiculously expensive. Just awesome.
