It's an obvious application of Quantum Gravity - when you go over a cliff, you have to look down to collapse the quantum gravity wavefunction, and thus you hit the bottom of the canyon.
Well, it would make sense if you could buy the same stuff over here in Europe as in the States.
However, I recently looked into purchasing a Zaurus. Not being able to find anywhere online to order one, I emailed Sharp, who informed me that the device was only being sold in the US and Germany. So I checked a few German and US sites, and discovered that the only place I could get one was from one company in the States, who *might* be willing to ship one to me, provided I called them on an 800 number.
Well, I've given up trying to get one for the moment, it's just too much hassle. So Sharp's lost a (potential) customer.
"Today, a law that states that you can't listen to the television airwaves without using a certified TV would be laughable."
This is already the case in the UK, you can't (officially) watch TV without buying a TV license. The TV license money goes to pay the BBC, which is entirely ad-free.
You're probably right about the amount I've spent (well actually $100 is a bit low, I also contributed to Mandrake after downloading ISO's, so it's more like $200). As I said, I've had to content myself with not buying games since Loki went bust, I was planning on getting a few more games from them - I've had to content myself with several hundred dollars worth of PS 2 games instead.
And the figure you quoted for MS software - well the majority of that $500 would probably go straight into Microsoft's pocket (certainly the OS and Office). So the amounts would be about equal. Thing is with Linux, I get a whole load of free apps as well.
"If the program is being used by people everywhere to embed fonts which the rightful owners have tried to prevent embeding with, then the answer is Yes."
Why should he be held responsible for how others use something he has produced ? Crowbar manufacturers are not held responsible for all burglaries commited, car manufacturers are not held responsible for road deaths caused by drivers.
Why should software be any different ? This is a major flaw with the DMCA.

Abiword (gtk version) runs just fine for me under KDE 3.
Erm yeah...I can already do this on my laptop: ctrl-X 2 in emacs.

Sorry, I am in a ranting mood today.
Hang on a minute...that means AOL must be even richer than Microsoft !

Have you looked at PHP Groupware ? It's not finished yet, but it might suit your needs.

Nice troll...
I'm a Linux user, let's see, in the past year I've bought
Star Office (through a Mandrake subscription)
Quake III from Loki (would've bought a load more games off them if they hadn't gone bust)
Codeweavers crossover plugin (to view quicktime)
Am I an atypical Linux user ?
