  4. How is Facebook going to "prevent" a Trump Presidency? Censorship? Biased coverage? Free political ads for his opponent?

Facebook as a company should stay out of it and let the democratic process work. Everyone who supports a losing Presidential candidate has to accept the will of their fellow voters, whether he's an odious, obnoxious boor or not.

If you, as a person, don't like Trump, volunteer for the campaigns of his opponents and vote against him. Don't leverage your status as a Facebook employee to suppress democracy.

  5. Lack of sleep, not shift work on Shift Work Dulls Brain Performance · · Score: 4, Insightful

As someone who used to work a graveyard shift, I know my brain felt dulled not because of the shift, but because I got 5 hours of sleep a night. The world does not recognize the need for people who work graveyard to sleep. I swear the garbage trucks came five days a week back then.

Seems like the open source community is a bit hypocritical here. For a long time, the argument Microsoft and its afficionados used against open source was that "it's only free if your time isn't worth anything." I remember the vehement denials against this notion and people here on /. saying they'd rather spend the time to get a good OS. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, it seems folks are changing their tunes, to mix a metaphor.

Same. Waaaaaayyyy too slow, not just on loads but the whole experience. It took several seconds to do anything with the newfangled mail (not counting server timeouts, which were not uncommon), so I switched back to regular Yahoo mail. I dread using the new mail if they can't improve the speed.

Do you really think people are farming 1000 gold? Or even 570?

I have about 2200 gold across all my characters and one epic mount. I don't "farm" per se; I sell herbs and skins on the AH and auction off items that people want. These items I get from normal play, not farming.

  17. Re:For want of mod points... on Losing Interest In Games - A Natural Progression? · · Score: 1

People seem to have an extremely difficult time wrapping their minds around the fact that there are essentially no unselfish reasons. It is basically impossible for a sentient being to undertake any action that has no perceived benefit.

But "selfish" == "bad" or "evil" so people usually meet this assertion with vehement disagreement.

Once one realizes that everything he does has a root motive based in self-interest he can begin to temper his selfishness with consideration for others.

Nothing has meaning. You are fooling yourself if you believe that some activity has more or less value than any other activity. Having a child ensures partial immortality, or at least that's the song your genes sing to you to get you to pass them on.

Your job is to have as much fun as you can, and to not get in the way of others having fun.

Life is but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
