Well...since you can get a transport app for your handheld...even though it's third party, most companies don't use Palm Desktop if they actually deploy palms to their forces. It sucks. So, yeah, since you can buy the software...I doubt they will add that feature internally any time soon.

The biggest issue is Microsoft's "system" of applications that can tie into each other. MS Project Server, AD, Visual Source Safe, XML, Windows CE, Office, etc. They all tie in together in an enterprise. Yeah, you MIGHT be able (eventually) to get that kind of functionality out of Linux, but probably not.

The only "real" competition IMHO is Sun IPlanet. But they also have the bonus of proprietary, good solid hardware too. Which if I was building a solid Linux system I would try to use hardware like that in an enterprise setting. Corps think nothing of spending $100,000 on ECM crap that doesn't really work anyway.

On top of this, electoral-vote.com was mentioned on the main page of slashdot.com, a hugely popular tech news site. The last time I was slashdotted, I got 700,000 hits. That incident was caused by the publication of a book emitted by a Microsoft-funded think tank in D.C. claiming that Linus Torvalds stole Linux from my earlier MINIX system. I posted a vigorous and caustic rebuttal saying that the book was utter and complete nonsense. My role was that of Linus' teacher, not his coauthor.

Think about a bit bigger picture. And actually, if your religious, we're here for God's entertainment. :)

One person got paid $5,000 for nine days. The town made $100,000. In two weeks. Not bad. Let's just ssee how it plays out.

  12. Sounds like a good thing all around. on William Shatner to Star in New Reality TV Series · · Score: 4, Interesting

According to the article, Shatner, when he announced it was a hoax, gave the town $100,000 as a gift. The crew of the "film" donated $12,000 to the library. Most people where just happy to have him in town...and Shatner said it wasn't going to make fun of anyone - the reality TV show was when a big Hollywood production company comes in to a small town.

They also spent $1,000,000 to make the show, much of that going into the towns economy. What would be REALLY cool was if the reality show went over well and Shatner decided to actually make the movie into a real movie. That could be pretty cool, and it would already have tons of publicity and marketing started for it.
