... if I brought that into a client, one of two things would happen:
1) I'd say "April Fools!!" and laugh heartily with everyone as I threw that on the floor and put my real designs up for review.
2) I'd be looking for a new job if #1 didn't happen.
That "ad" violates just about EVERY principle of good design as well as good marketing. I really don't know where to begin. Being able to import a photo and change the font size (oh, and center text for no reason whatsoever) does not make you a designer. If that runs as is, OpenOffice is dead.
I don't think you quite understand the concept. The reason you "spend large sums of money on a Mac" is for OS X and the much better experience of using a Mac. You dual boot so you don't have to spend a few hundred extra bucks on an XP machine that you only use for games.
You forget the answer they will give you and which you have no counter-argument: "God made it so."
You CANNOT debate this crap with the idiots who believe it, as they "know" they are right, and the invisible being they believe in can do ANYTHING.....
Who's idea was it to add other full-time persons (more specifically Kari Byron) to the show, you guys or the producers? Either way, could you describe how they got to be on the show, and your thoughts on the effects on the quality of the show, if any.
I know what she alleges her philosophy is, but in practice, when everyone starts acting selfishly, well; when the few super brilliant movers and shakers she cares about start doing so, they create a world where everything is wonderful, even for the masses who can't hope to be as brilliant as those who "can do", since the selfishness of the few elite has given them jobs and all sorts of super-duper technology.
If you read her books in context of her and her personality, her whole philosophy is lashing out at a perceived "injustice"... she feels that her brilliance should be exalted by the world, and since it wasn't, she wrote horrible, horrible books about a magic world where she would have the power to do whatever she wants and rise to the top and spend her days in the company of other "greats."
I also find that a lot of the people who identify with her also feel that. Obviously, I don't know anything about you at all, so please don't think I am holding you to that characterization, but Rand's views play perfectly into the mindset of those who feel THEY should be on top, because those who are on top aren't as "good."
BTW: It's nice to actually have a discussion on/. with somebody who can type in complete sentences =)
If you can make it past the first 200 pages of that pile of drivel, you're all set to spend constant hours doing repetitive tasks in WoW.
Why she took that long to explain her "philosophy" when it can be summed up in two sentences is beyond me. Much like leveling up in MMORPGs is beyond me.
You forget that the giant corporations who own all these copyrights and who have the cash and influence to buy this legislation don't give a rat's ass about "morally right". They exist to generate money for shareholders (and also huge bonuses for top execs.) and the amount they spent paying lawmakers will be dwarfed by the extra revenue.
I'm a die-hard Mac guy (well, I actually left the Mac during System 85.-9 because they sucked, but I came back for OS X and I'm never going back) and I fully agree with your points.
The Mac isn't nor will it ever be, a "gaming paltform". I buy Mac games: I have an unopened UT:2k4 box sitting next to me =) I'm not even going to bother installing it... I'm too busy playing Tribes:Vengance and DOOM3 on the Win2k box I build myself just to play games.
OS X is an amazing platform for just about everything. But, like Linux, it's not a gaming console. That's why Windows exists.
I DLed the demo, and it's really, really easy to beat. I did the stock tournament with the skill at "highest" and I had a HUGE chip lead in the 30 hands allowed. (NOTE: I'm 'OK' at poker... I don't claim to be great like everyone else seems to =)
Very formulaic play by the AI (they will ALWAYS raise the same multiplier of the big blind and so on)
However, for $30, it might be worth it. But unless you are a total newbie, don't bother.
No offence, but perhaps you sould read up on the Negative Income Tax.
You keep people from not working by them knowing that if they work even one hour a week, they will be better off than if they didn't. Unlike our current system, which does provide disincentives to work at some wage levels.
Topical Rogaine is included in the backpack to really fill out your neckbeard.

The reason behind the law: "People are having fun and we aren't taxing it, so we better make it illegal."

Gotcha... you fail to provide guided tours of chicken farms in China though, which is another flaw in your plan. =)

Command-Right Arrow (or sometimes Command-Shift-Arrows) seems to switch between windows in lots of apps, FYI.

Hey that's pretty good. My summation would be:
Selfishness leads to altruism. Non-Selfishness leads to greed and oppression.
Not sure how that works outside her bizzaro world, but I guess that's why it took her 1500 pages to set up a situation where he system actually works.

Of course they are... think of how low they had to stoop just to get elected.

OMG, that is sooo funny. Seriously, that's the first time ever somebody made "Macs are expensive" joke!! Classic.
Now go build a dual 3GHz PC with 4 Gig of RAM for 500 or STFU.
I'm not an American, but if I were, I'd be writing to my government representative now asking for help on this issue.
When will you folks learn. In the US, our reps won't listen unless there's a huge PAC donation included with your letter.
Bush will just look up what they were going to teach us in the Bible....
Looking back on the last 4 years, I'd say Incompetent and Ignorant pretty much describe the current batch of 'Republicans".

If you had read ANY of the articles, or even the f*ing REPLIES to your post, you'd know the answer.
Pro tip: READ BEFORE POSTING.
Now, go back and read the replies to your posts, then feel bad for posting in the first place.

No, I bet it's the corporate whore neo-conservatives using terrorist tactics. I'll bet Bush organized this crap.
Wow, baseless and stupid claims are fun!!
If you had quicktime pro, you could convert it to MPEG.
Quake 3 was SMP aware / enabled.
I don't see why DOOM3 would be different.
Well then all my ID professors, some of whom knew the theater guy who invented it were lying to me.
The version you present is the "PC" version, as back when it was invented, the word 'stupid' wasn't really something you taught.
