  1. 5 billion years ago? on The Mystery of Saturn's Atmosphere · · Score: 2, Funny

How can the sun be 5 billion years old when the universe is only 6000 years old?

  2. Re:I've seen this before on Home Theater Transformed Into Star Trek Bridge · · Score: 1

Actually, he very well may have seen it before. I myself actually posted about it in another forum on March 2, of 2005.

  6. Does anyone else find the audio odd? on First HD-DVD Disc Reviews - Mixed Marks · · Score: 1

Am I the only person around that finds the fact that both of these movies are being released in "High Def" video format, while the audio format is still 5.1? It seems to me that since all this stuff is geared toward high end systems it would make more sense to include a 7.1 track.

  7. Direct distribution from artist to consumers on After Brief Respite Music Industry Slump Deepens · · Score: 1

Recently came across a site that sells albums from artists who are not signed to labels. The deal is the artist provides the product and the site (CDBaby.com) sells it online, albeit at a much higher price than youd pay for a major label distribution. Thay take a slight percentage of the sale for themselves and then pay the artists the rest on a weekly basis. I think alot of artists are becoming more and more aware of the fact that the record companies are in it for themselves and nothing else. I'm willing to pay a premium if it means we can weed out bands like Linkin Park, The Killers, and Franz Ferdinand. Does anyone else think this is also beginning to take a bite out of the record companies?

  8. Professionals on Ask The Mythbusters · · Score: 1

At various points throughout each episode, you run a short message warning everyone not to try this at home and that you two are professionals. How did you get to be professionals and what are your qualifications and educational background?

    Keep up the great fun.

  9. Spellcheck and Grammar check on Hackers, Spelling, and Grammar? · · Score: 1

I believe the reason grammar and spelling are so poor in writing anymore is that most people don't take the time to learn. The attitude is "Why bother when my word processing software will do it for me?"

IMHO, it's no worse than people unable to do simple math in their head (e.g. figuring out how much change to give someone without the cash register or how much tip to leave).

Most single people are used to picking up the slack of parents in the office, anyway. This time, it just gives the other people a chance to cut out for a day and make the family people who are always taking days off or leaving early (without counting it as a vacation or sick day) to cover them.

Yeah, cause it's not like I've ever had to cover for a young single guy who spent all night drinking til he puked and is now "sick" and can't come in.

  14. Re:I don't want luxury on Hybrid Drivers Provide Real-World Mileage Data · · Score: 1

I hate the inflated prices car makers charge, getting people to buy on credit what they can't really afford to own.

With all due respect, the people signing the paperwork are just as much at fault. I could have taken an extra $100k in equity out of my house when I refinanced. Self restraint and common sense prevailed over my lust for lots of new electronics.

First: If you steal a car which has the key left in it and which is running, it's still punishable by the law.

here in Maryland, leaving your keys in the ignition is also punishable by law. They figured the best way to crack down on Auto Theft was to fine the owners of vehicles for making it easier and more tempting for theivesto steal.

  20. I just don't understand.... on FTC Chief Bashes Anti-Spam Bills · · Score: 1

What the big deal over spam is. For years, everyone got junk [snail] mail in their [snail] mail boxes. People would complain about it occasionally but most just threw it away. Taking care of spam is easy: I use junk mail filters in my email client and have a Hotmail account set up for anything that requires me to "Enter your email address". That way, 99% of the spam goes to the hotmail account, and my filters take care of the rest.

  23. Licensed Auto Mechanics? on Mandated Regulation/Certification for Computer Repair? · · Score: 1

I'm not exactly sure where you are from, but in the state of Maryland, you don't need a license to be an auto mechanic. Sure the certification paper work makes you look better, but it's not required. I work at a dealership and one of the technicians here was a lot attendant 6 months ago. The only prior automotive work he had ever done was oil changes and installing a fat muffler on his Honda. But on a daily basis he replaces brake, suspension, and air bag components. Can we be held liable if he screws somtething up? Sure. Does the state of Maryland say he has to be certified in any way? Nope.

  24. Re:New product idea on Automakers to Make Diagnostic Codes Available · · Score: 1

actually obdII already does essentially this. the father of a teenage girl brought the 96 saturn that he bought her back to us screaming and threatening to sue. she had told him the car would randomly cut out while she was driving down the road. what she didn't tell him is that she was doing 110 miles an hour every time it happened (the pcm shuts the engine down at 110 miles). all we had to do was hook the car up to the techII service stall and pull the information out.

  25. Re:Just keep on driving on Automakers to Make Diagnostic Codes Available · · Score: 1

as an owner of "beater" cars you may not care. but i think most would agree that if some component on there brand new car failed (even if the only noticable difference is that the ses light is on), they would rather have that light come on so they can get the vehicle fixed while it's still under warranty. after the vehicle is out of warranty, people can do whatever they like.
