This is true for pc dealers that only support the hardware. This is not true for game console, iPhones, apple products where the same company will provide support and warranty for the entire package. If you want a smartphone device that only provides support and warranty on the hardware, that's fine, do that. But most consumers would rather have support for the entire damn thing, which makes it pretty fucking hard to support when people are interfering with your product. Again, I feel like there some inflated sense of entitlement. If you want to jailbreak your iPhone, sweet, do it, but don't expect apple to provide warranty or support after you've tampered with the product. You feel the product is the hardware, but in apples case it's the entire devices experience, and most consumers love that.
There is always a low end. If tomorrows low end is today's high end, well, it's still the low end of tomorrow and nokia will make and sell it for cheaper than the high end products of tomorrow. Consider that today's low end products were once high end products of the past.
You have an inflated view of entitlement. Feel free to disconnect your PS3 from the internet thus ending the service sony provides you. The problem here is that people suddenly forget that these companies need to provide customer support and attempt to control quality of their services and devices so that they can be competitive in their markets. Let the flaming begin, I understand most of you slashdotters that love to hack this shit up and play around in linux desktops rarely use support and probably have a laundry list of quality issues to bitch about.. but you're not the majority of consumers, not by a long shot. If sony wants to execute "arbitrary code" (I quoted that because it's rather sensationalist buzzwording) on my PS3, go ahead, as long as it works, I don't really care.
This should be modded funny. Like iTunes apple knows that if they make simple, convenient, and cheap enough, people will use it, even over piracy. Sure it's all about money, but so many of you use that as some kind of crutch for evil. Apple makes money by providing consumers something they want, this is good for the consumer and it's good for apple. If apple or any other company were to make shitty products than the money would stop coming in. Marketing power is not the sole reason for their success as many on slashdot like to throw around.
On the contrary, appl is driving competition and innovation. Just check out any review on a cellphone and note the likely title: iPhone killer?
The future is gonna be damned cool, I wish I could live longer to see more of it.
I wont argue over the value of an iPad since you've clearly got your mind made up. But, many companies have marketing power, to say that iPad lovers are all brainwashed is just silly. Apple didn't just throw another desktop on a tablet form factor, they created a new product. That's innovation and it's why theyre a fantastic company to have around in our era.
I've been using skype for a couple years at work and this is the first outage I've seen from them. Compare this to the competing platforms and I'd say businesses would smartly adopt skype should they not want an in-house solution.
Should also reflect if you need to use the phone or hold private meetings. A typical programmer should probably share a room with his/her team. A salesmen should not work in this room.
The problem for me is that I'm not impressed with movies that use special effects to try and sell a shitty movie. You take a good movie and add special effects to it and I'm impressed. Terminator 2 was a good movie and they added some cool effects to enhance that movie. The latest star wars films were mediocre and no amount special effects would wow me. Transformers surprised me with how it engaged me and I thought the special effects were pretty awesome !
The tone of that ms dude in the interview annoyed me. I wonder if ms is going to shoot themselves in the foot by pushing cloud based services. They have ms office engrained in business because everyone uses it, and it works well enough to continue. But if they push people to use cloud office and it sucks some other company like google may swoop those customers away. The article talks about how people are used to having these softwares on their machine and I think that's a major reason for offices success, change that and you may uproot your own cusomters.
I see a lot of these posts. The op did not say he plans to park his child in front of a computer all day while he rips rails off prostitutes bellies. There is nothing wrong with encouraging pastimes of this nature. Play outside while it's sunny, play inside when it's not. Load it up with some bookmarks to the many games directed to young minds on the Internet.
I'll extend this sentiment by adding you should only solve problems you actually have. I'm amazed by the solutions some companies have for problems that don't exist yet. I'm all for planning ahead, but IT loves to go crazy with shit that totally wastes money and solves nothing.
I don't think any of this means they own the word. Theyre protecting their identity from being confused with other similar techs that are not theirs. Do you think apple is suing applebee's (sp?) for name infringement?
What's wrong with wasting some time??!?
You mean before your pants hit the floor.

Is it called the intersect?

Purell !
Is there a concern of methane release at all? I semi-recall reading something about the methane trapped under the frozen lake tops?

I read slashdot on the shitter with it. Endofstory.

A lot of sites require emails to add friction to the process to make it more work for spammers and scripts.
You voted for him because his opposition included Palin... Obama should pay for her campaign in 2012 :)
A witness to an alledged crime where he is the perpetrator. Sounds fishy.
