I know from expierence that one reason you don't get a shipping price etc... right away is that the company needs to know WHERE you are shipping it so they know if they have a nexus in that state and it changes the tax.
Remember that it's not just your boss you are trying to maintain a professional relationship with. If you just "walk off" you might be screwing over people other than him. Do what you can to maintain a good relationship with as many people as you can. You'll be suprised how that can help you in the long term. Most places don't want references from just your boss, they want people you've worked with too. Now might be a great time to go over his head and let his boss know that you are trying to help.
I don't charge my family, but last month I decided I may have to change that plan. I spent over 30min on the phon with them doign computer support (no the OTHER any key) and it put me over the cell plan min and cost ME money.
However: I probably won't charge my sister, she's an Emergency Room Physcian... and you'd be suprised how convient it is to have one of those around.

Since when did Slashdot become so Pro-Apple? I understand the Anti-MS, which has been here since day 1, but since when did the answer to every problem become "Buy an Apple."
My theory has been that a lot of busniness plans were based on a certain number of people "jumping on the bandwagon" and failed becuase there weren't that many people on line.
The number of people online has grown a lot, and now some of those business plans might profit, so I predict that there will be another boom and it might be as good for the kind of people who read slashdot as the last one.
I just finished Crrichton's latest book "State of Fear" as well, and while citing him might not be so great - his book has an extensive biblography, and he is very humble about the fact that he is not a scientist, and explaining his views and detailing that many of the scientists he does quote do not agree with him.
The people he reported this too were probably doing excatly what he reported. Think about it: You are a manager - and are presnted with evidence that an employee has the power to track what you are doing... who do you fire?
SciAm computer articles are often well ahead of their time. I used their article on Kerberos for my graduate level netowkring class presentation - and am still suprised at how well they nailed it.
I've designed it... I could build it today... but having though about it (like you are now), it really does boil down to: "Won't somebody think of the children!?"
We communicate with these aliens and they are finally able to convince everyone that most of our religons are money making schemes, and that we've been going about religon all wrong for quite a long time.
Beating the device would imply somehow fooling it to granting you access. The crying effect makes it so the device will not work. So it might be a useless technology if some people can't use it.
If there was no stress or responsibility they wouldn't pay you to do the job. Chances are you are not so amazingly creative that they will pay you to spew your wonderful ideas all day long.
I once thought that if I was just an amazing developer, and was able to solve any programming problem, that it would be a sure fire means to success. WRONG.
Try to put yourself in the shoes of the investors in your company (or the owner or whatever) - what would ever drive them to pay you to just sit around and do whatever you want - you have to PRODUCE, and that involves stress and most importantly it involves responsibility.
Don't ever complain about not wanting to accept responsibility, it looks very bad, and makes you stick out as a welfare case.
What's the deal? This same article with a slightly different look shows up every 6 months, it seems. And it's gonna keep showing up for well over 100yrs if we don't stop posting it to slashdot.
I love my garmin 12xl GPS. They were the first to put the control buttons on TOP of the LCD display. It's a good thickness, and as durable as a rock. I've had it strapped to my chest while white water rafting and it never missed a turn.

Wait... my dad was a doctor... that means you HAVE to teach me, doesn't it? I pretty much have to teach everyone in my family about computers, and most of the time I enjoy it and realize it's worth it.
We really need an oath for the computer folks. Something that says, "I will prepare for hard drive crashes." (Mine crashed today... last ghost in October... d'oh)
