One aspect you overlook for home users are those of us not in new construction. I have a home thats 100 years old. Try snaking cable from the basement to my server closet on the 2nd floor. Not happening. In contrast, throw an 802.11b (in this case linksys) AP in the closet and you are up and running. In many cases, copper is much more expensive then a PCMCIA card and an AP.
This is one of the many problems with Unions. If they expect to be treated like professionals they have to stop acting like children. Professionals do their best whether their clients are treating them like shit or like saints. Professionals stay late and don't get paid a cent more, when the job calls for it. Professionals do a good job without being bribed. Unions are economic disrupters and should be dissolved. These are not skilled professionals, these are thugs.
I was just discussing this subject recently. Slashdot, that is, as an effective online community. Considering, it's got a huge reader base and no real specific topic, it's got an awfully effective S/N ratio. As online communities go, what are other, large, non-specific communities do people use? I follow a number of other communities, but all seem to be centered around a single topic, product, or theme. Does anyone follow a less technical, equally large and useful community?
While 240v doesn't kill, it sure leaves a mark, especially with enough mils running thru it. I was once, foolishly, working on a large, external AC unit that had two independent power supplies. I only learned this after getting thrown across the yard. I was bent over reaching in when I got shocked so I fell on top of the unit. Bad scene. Eventually I was thrown clear. As I lay there shaking and burning, cursing up a storm, my mother runs out screaming, "the neighbors are going to hear you cursing, stop, stop, the neighbors are going to hear". Top of my list mom. moral of this story....
this is the way of the world. get out of your linux controlled closet. when I worked for an now out of date Unix provider (next) we were encouraged to form UGs in our various areas.
he didn't say it would be a turing machine (tape, read/write, etc) he said it would be a turing complete platform. simply implementing a strict turing machine as originally stated by ol' alan isn't going get far.
There are a number of solutions out today that allow for faster input on a PDA and none of them are near as popular as graffiti or the on screen keyboard. Users don't want to learn a new paradigm for entry, even graffiti is too much for some users. They want to enter normal text and/or use a keyboard. That's it. They don't want to use FITALY, that oddball french circle thing out a while ago (whose name I clearly forget since the product was also so forgettable), etc.
Not to mention, for this to be effective a large amount of screen real estate is required. The most effective data entry solutions for a PDA require little to no real estate. Check out how the new Clie's make great use of limited real estate or Jot and transcriber, both take up no real estate. a much better solution then this zooming around stuff.
Can we please not repost this same feckin question again and again. This exact same ? comes up at least 2-3 times a year. Please, please, please don't post it again. Reject this ? when it comes up. I beg of you.
At least the.coms exploding have gotten rid of a bunch of the "i'm only 17 and I make $150k a year, and that proves college is useless, i'm the new economy"...
I would have to disagree here. I used a 330 for 6 months and a client of ours (a university) rolled them out to students and both of us had constant problems with them. I have had every palm device from the Palm Pro on and the Handera was the worst I ever had. I loved the CF and SD and the screen at the time was the best around (now the Sony NR70 makes the 330 look like 1987). I am a very knowledgable palm/ppc user and I had more hard resets with data loss, more constant problems, etc with handera then any other device. I exchanged my primary 330 three times and each device was worse then the last. I like the guys at handera and wish them only the best, but to be honest, I had lots of trouble with the devices.
I have been using the service since the day it came out and had a ton of luck with it. I have used it in my iPaq and Laptop, no problem with either. Thru VPN, no problem. I routinely get express net coverage in the boston and NYC areas and had tremendous luck connecting thru the 2G networks in Cincinnati, upstate NY, DC, many others. I have used it in data and phone mode extensively and had little trouble. In building and out it works fine.
I am amazed at how many people respond about the commericals or non-article related posts. Can we pretend to stay on topic.
i'm stunned by this. just yesterday I was in BB buying a TV and recording tons of info on my iPaq. The response of the clerk to me recording info on my iPaq was, "wow, that's one of the new ones." This lead to a classic geekfest conversation. My girlfriend got bored and started looking at CDs when we started talking about ST vs. BattleStar Galactica (who was more annoying Wesley or the fluffy robot dog). I wonder, was it really BB saying you can't do this or that or was it this guy being an ass. BB store officials might be jerks but most of the people working there are semi-geeky kids. I'm still completely stunned that BB would try and prevent me from recording prices. If they actually tried to stop me, I think I might have to be arrested as well. WTF.

How do you pronounce SQL then? I did large scale data warehousing/data mining for years, think many terabytes on an SP2, SAS and large Sun boxes, etc. Everyone I worked with said "sequel".
The real issue here was not that a single woman got burnt by coffee but rather that McDonalds corporation had gotten 1000's of complaints about similiar problems over the years and ignored them. This was the straw that broke the camels back and not a freak incident.
I remember my Lisp professor loved Lisp jokes. Of course, he would always tell them with a slight lisp. Usually they were really bad puns somehow involving car/cdr. So I guess it's a part of the Lisp/Scheme sub-culture. The really bad part is I choose this professor because his class was in the PM and skipped taking Douglas Hofstadters AM course. bad choice on my part....
the chipset tends to put a lot more limits on speed (clockspeed) and less on memory (RAM/ROM). True, a chipset limits max memory, but rarely is this the bottleneck. For instance, the new Palm chipset can now address 16MB vs. the original 8mb of addressable space.

Too late. ARPU has been a buzzword for a while. Gartner uses it all over the place. Its all over the telco space.

I have been looking at doing the exact same thing so I would be interested in seeing your page. Please do put it up. Thanks.
LOL! off the windshield, that's a riot!
And as an Anonymous Coward you are going to tell us what? register before you open your mouth, bitch.

this is the 'reading about it'...this was posted a while ago...that doesn't count...
after years at Fidelity investments, I can tell you during trading hours, trading machines need 4-5 9's, that's for damn sure.

what does the shared Industrial Scientific and Medical (ISM) spectrum have to do with the frequency which excites water?

At least the
Palm is currently pushing the Pico BT AP pretty heavily. I have had 3 reps in the last week recommend it. It's Bluetooth and a LAN gateway.

Let's all be clear. Without the US involvement in both WWI and WWII the British would be speaking German right now.
