This is what we're talking about. A little crappy coax coupler. I saw this on ebay a couple days ago, and thought to myself 'This must be a scam -- such a little thing can't work, since real descrambler boxes are pretty large and complicated'. Guess I was right.
So far, there have been 154 completed downloads via BT. That makes 154 x 34.4MB = 5.17GB of transfer. From personal experience, I've seen 1000+ simultaneous downloads of a 200MB file with only two or three fast file originators (seeds), so BT should scale to feed the Slashdot crowd.
Slashdot editors take note; set up a BT for the next story that links to a big file.
The most popular P2P application in Japan is called Winny and is built around Freenet. There's some english information about it here, as well as a translated client. The last time I tried, though, the translated client was an older version and I couldn't get it to connect, but the latest Japanese binary worked for me.
I managed to get the file, so here's a mirror using BitTorrent. If you don't know what BitTorrent is, first go to the BT site and download and install the client (Windows/OSX/Unix versions available).
Please keep your BT window open for as long as possible (at least an hour or two) after your transfer completes. Thanks!

These people put their hundreds of megs of downloads on one single HTTP server, and expect it not to crash and burn? Did anyone get a copy of this to mirror yet?
I'll download and convert this to XVID AVI, easily playable on Windows with Media Player and Linux with MPlayer. It should be done by tonight, and I'll post it to alt.binaries.multimedia.anime.
Dungeon Master was a 1987 game from FTL, Inc. released for the Apple IIGS, IBM PC, and Amiga. Dungeon Master Java was a recently-made clone written in Java.
This game was a pioneer in the 3D first-person genre. More than just mindless hack-and-slash, there were lots of puzzles which really made you think. Floor-plates, hidden triggers, keys, etc.
This assumes the bot uses a depth-first search method. If it uses breadth-first search, for example, it will still hit all the normal links on the page before it gets to the "trap" page.

I won't watch anime unless it's subbed, ergo if they don't show subbed anime, I won't watch their channel. As many people have said, there's always the option of using SAP and closed captioning if they want to show dubbed programming as well.

Download link http://download.shareaza.com:8825/Shareaza1701.exe seems impossibly slow -- I'm getting 276 bytes per sec on my DSL connection. For anyone who wants to check out the 1.7 prerelease, here's a mirror:
Basically, the cost involved in getting a FCC license will blow you away. Look at Haverford College's station WHRC for an example. They lost their FCC license and decided to go online-only (via streaming MP3 and QuickTime). This might be the most cost-effective solution in the beginning, at least.

I love my AE-1. It's nice to see that somebody remembers that camera. :)

BT link for DivX (35MB file): http://cobaltnine.net/bt/FINALTRAILER_720_divx.av
apparently the DivX version was encoded using a weird codec that doesn't work on all players
Video shows fine for me, using ffdshow alpha 2003-01-03, get it here. Also works fine with latest mplayer.

Yeah, Andrew Linux is pretty old stuff. I don't actually know of anybody who ever ran it, but it's available.
Carnegie Mellon University has had its own Red Hat-based distro for at least 5 years now, called Andrew Linux.

Sounds kind of like Phat Linux to me.

It's very difficult to purchase a plain cell phone _sans_ service plan these days.
Only true for new phones, really. Check out E-Bay; they have lots of serviceless used cell phones for sale.
