AA (america's army) does a very good job at making the sniper have a real disadvantage. You cant hold the gun straight while standing up, only when your lying on the ground can you get the gun to be steady. While crouched its less steady, but can be used. To get the scope to almost stop, you have to put down the bipod on the gun, and that takes even more time. The other thing it does well, is it takes a couple of seconds to reload the gun. If you find yourself in close combat (guy runs up behind you), it takes several seconds to switch to a pistol or a machine gun. But of course, the one big advantage is you can kill someone with one shot from very far away
I think the author of the article is a pissy CS player. CS has a poor implimentation of the AWP, you can shoot the gun and IMMEDIATELY switch to your pistol. You can even switch back right away and your rifle is reloaded. You can run around and when you stop moving, you have instant accuracy.
I totally agree with the one shot one kill for a sniper in FPS's, but you have to give big disadvantages at close range and while moving. The role of the sniper is not to run around. You set up somewhere far away. They even have spotters there for close combat situations.
so people are complaining they are offering 5 apps in a bundle for 50.00, when apple COULD go and sell them individually for 30-50 dollars. Yes they were free, but 50 dollars is nothing to complain about.
I personally use the ZX as strafe, ALT for backwards, and Mouse 2 for walking forward. All my friends make fun of me for this config, but for using it all my 'FPS life', it works.
I think it is more about them giving out prizes like Video Cards. I know if I ever went to a gaming event and a bunch of people around me got 500 dollar video cards for free, I would be more inclined to buy from that company. Both ATI and NVIDIA dont need advertising since the benchmarks do that for each of them. But a company giving out free products at events shows that they actually support gamers. Especially since it seems like big LAN parties are growing in popularity lately. NVIDIA giving away free stuff gets people in the door and makes for a much better experience for the hard core and casual players.
Comparing this to email isnt the best. Im sure he is refering to IMAP. And "Especially if they run POP? Enlighten us here" makes YOU sound like a retarded ass panzy. What MMORPG game lets you store your inv./character/stats on your own computer and doesnt store it on the server. Comparing it to email (IMAP) isnt good because with email you CAN backup your own files. With MMORPG's there is no way of doing this. You pay for the game, and then pay a monthly fee to have them store your stuff on their servers. The fee does also let you play online, but thats not the point. Who actually owns the items/characters is another discussion.
I also felt ripped off buying the road to rome. I bought the game and the expansion at the same time. So far I have played R2R about 10 times. As you said it was more vehicles and more maps. That is exactly what Secret Weapons will be. I think the 1942 mod community is big enough to actually hurt sales of the new expansions (SW and Vietnam). There are some very well made mods out there. Hell, one of the very early playable releases of the GI JOE mod was fun as hell even though it only had 4 different kinds of vehicles. The best mod out there IMO is EoD. It breaks up the norm of 1942 and puts the player into actual infantry combat. So instead of spawning and sitting in a line to get into a vehicle, you get to actually walk around with a gun in your hand. And as a soldier on the battlefield your actually useful NOT in a vehicle.
This is the best approach. Tribes and Tribes 2 is a good example (games that I have seen this in). A lot of players made or downloaded HUDS that were smaller that what comes with the game. There was even a script that made all of the huds moveable and sizeable. As for the looking down at your 100 rockets, the best solution to this is to have the ammo count on the gun. Like in Alien (the movie), having a "LCD" display on the side of the gun showing how much ammo you have. This is not an option for a game that wants to have realistic guns (CounterStrike). Another approach (steming from Tribes 2) is have a warning noise when you are low on ammo. There were many scripts you could download that would make some sort of noise when your ammo got below a certain amount. You could do this with health also, the more hurt your player is, have some sort of visual/sound queues alerting the user. With these in place, the player becomes much more emersed into a game. When you have too much clutter on your screen, it makes it feel like your controlling a Mechwarrior.
and Master P and other rappers are forced to sell all 4,000 karats of diamonds, bentley's, 15 million dollar homes, and bottles and bottles of crystal because there are no more checks coming in the mail.
My roomate and I had Digital cable up until recently. We had the 1 year free digital box and when that year was up, so was the price. It would have costed us 78.00 a month for the premium cable + HBO. So we went with Directv. We pay 98.00 a month for every channel you can get. We also just purchaced a Directv Tivo and love it. We most likely would have stayed with digital cable if they didnt raise the price on us. Im glad they did because Directv is far superior IMO.
I think you took the statement in the wrong way. I *think* he was getting at how games for consoles are mostly based on single player, and PC games are based on multiplayer. That is why people buy consoles IMO. So it will be harder to get a system that is primarily for single player play to the online market.
I think the reason google will still take users away is because google is a logo and a text box. There are no flashing ads, no distractions. Its fast and easy to use. For the non-tech people that really wouldnt notice the differences in searching capabilities will notice the speed and simplicity of google.
I actually think it would hurt the sales. One thing that EOD does right now with its maps, is make the game not so vehicle intensive. In mods like DC, if your not in a vehicle, your pretty much worthless (unless you have the stinger). Hense, half your team standing and waiting for planes on the airfeild. For me, it gets kind of old. EOD has 2 maps where there basically are no vehicles. Your in the jungle with your gun. And even with the maps with the heli's, they dont dont over power ground forces. Unlike in regurlar BF(planes) and DC heli's. The jungle is VERY dense which makes for a very different experience over any other mod and regular BF.
From what it seems, EA likes to favor the vehicles over the actual running around with a gun. They have an expansion pack "secret weapons" which you get a a lot more vehicles to play with.
And for not knowing about EOD, you must not go to ANY community websites for BF1942. ANY site that told a person about DC, would have listed EOD. And even while playing DC or BF, people are always mentioning different mods and what people think of them (from my experiences). And since you dont go to community websites (http://www.planetbattlefield.com/) is a good one.
I clicked throught the different sections of the website, and it looks like ALL the skins are taken off. I could understand Marvel if the entire site was of Marvel skins and nothing else. If he made any money off of advertising, he is soley making it from Marvels stuff.
ill agree, but I really do want to drag my 'under a killing moon' game out of the bottom of the pile of games. They do have replayability if they are fun and have a good story, you just have to wait a couple of years.:-)
I would not say that if a person that bought this game now would have a hard time getting into the game. The game is basically broken into 3 groups, heavily modded MODS, Classic, and Base. Base is the original game, classic is T1 physics with T2 graphics, and the MODS are something a new person would NEVER want to go to.
I personally play base (original T2). The reason is because I LOVE the teamwork involved. People have to take a role, and stick to it in order to win. It being repairing base stuff, capping the flag, defense, offence, setting out turrets, etc. If you leave a hole in any of these, your team will have a very hard time winning the game.
Now if a new person jumped in now, they get subjected to classic, which is T1 physics, and which ALL the T1 guys are playing. They have been playing this game for EVER, and new people wont stand a chance. The best way for a new person to start is to play Base. Its slower and the experience wont be overwelming. There are are WIDE range of players skills on the servers, and most people will help you out. Hell, if you just say your new, the good players will take it easy on you. If person then wants to move to classic cause they think base is too slow, it will be an easier transition for them. The physics in classic are MUCH faster. Even heavy armors have a good chance at capping the flag (which i personally HATE). Then you can get into the other mods.....which are pretty insane. When you start playing them, it seems as if there are about 2000 different weapons you can choose from. And there is always one weapon that counters a weapon.....even to advanced players, some of these mods are very overwhelming
I dont play Classic because the teamplay is just not there. You can have one REALLY good player on your team and have NO offense and no one helping him out, and he will still get the enemy flag back to your base cause he can do it so quickly. And if you have a decent offense, you can even have a huge heavy carry the thing back.
The main problem I have with Classic (T1), is that the new patch makes that the default game when searching for servers. Base (which is the original T2 game) comes up as 'varient' servers which is kind of bullsh@t. Classic is pretty hard to get into as a new player.
I guess im the opposite, I like the realism. I cant stand playing games where the physics are not realistic (espicially in driving games). But I will agree to the open endedness of GTA. I always hated racing games that had timers or checkpoints. I always wanted to explore stuff in the game but couldnt. Now if only the people that worked on GT and the people that worked on GTA got together. I would really like a driving simulator that you could just do what ever the hell you wanted to.
Split screen is the worst thing EVER invented. And FPS on consoles are the 2nd worst thing. Its about time they bring this to the PC, now I can use a MOUSE.

"A game like Tribes 2 'scored' in both 'worst support for teamwork' and consequently 'worst teamwork experience'."
Shouldnt this be Tribes *1*. In Tribes 2, classes and roles actually mean something. Tribes 1 on the other hand.....
I personally use the ZX as strafe, ALT for backwards, and Mouse 2 for walking forward. All my friends make fun of me for this config, but for using it all my 'FPS life', it works.
apt-get install savage
Reading Package Lists... Done

E: Couldn't find package savage
no luck here either !
I nominate Serious Sam. Horrible Horrible game.
"but the violent video games they played gave them the tools to perform their carnage."
How do you get real guns after you play violent video games? Am I missing some bonus levels or something ?

yea, I read it too fast. I thought it was a company offering people to play the game in real life. Im bike helmet retarded, I know.
They can recreate missions from the game, but they cant spring for their own domain ???
Seriously, there is a post every 2 days about SCO.

Well, I guess it was a good PR move. I know it got me interested in the game. It also brought something new/exciting to the SecondLife community.
