And I won't lie, I usually look for a functional and mature application. Maybe that means I'm ignoring potential applications. But I guess when I go to a website to see a screenshot, I want to know if its something that is mature enough that I can use. This is bad sometimes because you can't always tell the quality of an application from a screenshot.
I myself have found that running a business is tough, not because of all the strenous work, not because of having to support customers, but in trying to sway customers your way and get them to stick with you. You can have the best intentions in the world and explain that you are on the customer's side and do all these great things for open source, but in the end customers will still treat your business like its the enemy and just go for the cheapest.
What Apple has is amazing and is not easy to get. Its not just a matter of projecting the image of being a hip company that is keen to the alternative way of thinking. Even if you mean it, that's not enough. You have to be consistent, put up with a lot of shit for a long time until you finally win. Especially since the majority of people really just care about price over their own principles.
What Apple has is rare and amazing. Truly loyal customers.
Scramjet's are a revolutionary "new" type of engine, they have just been difficult to get from the concept to pratical stage.
From what I've seen in all those documentary films showing people testing rocket engines, they were also difficult to get from the concept to the pratical stage.
I would recommend using RCS for tracking changes of config files. CVS is based on it, but RCS allows you to work better with just single files instead of entire directories and sets of source codes. Just create an RCS directory in the directory that the config file is in, and do this:
The were well aware of game marketing in the 1980s as well. If you ever looked on the back of a game box from the early 80s compared to one from the late 80s you might notice that later ones have the caption "Actual c64 screenshots" next to screenshots. This is because marketing was getting creative using the screenshots of a platform with better graphics (like the Amiga) on a weaker one like the c64 or *cough* EGA PC.
Just look at the front of early game boxes for Atari 2600 games. Fantasy art was used to make the game seem fun where screenshots of pixelated blocks did not at face value.
Sites like these provide important economic indicators that help you determine when its the right time to buy a car or a house or go Kwanzaa shopping. I wouldn't dare spend my money unless I felt that it was ok to do so.
For a second there I thought that Google had created some web application for people to track their personal expenses. That could be dangerous in a lot of ways.
Somehow that doesn't seem right. This will depend on whether you have stuff like transparency turned on. I just took gnome-terminal and aterm head to head using your same data file and got these results:
gnome-terminal (no transparency) real 0m2.756s user 0m0.000s sys 0m0.105s
aterm (no transparency) real 0m0.861s user 0m0.001s sys 0m0.105s
gnome-terminal (with transparency) real 0m2.954s user 0m0.001s sys 0m0.109s
aterm (with transparency) real 0m3.027s user 0m0.001s sys 0m0.105s
Aterm is generally considered one of the fastest terms available. Actually, I think gnome-terminal has improved their transparency handling in recent versions because when it first came out, it was slower than it is now. I remember seeing a more detailed comparison of term speeds done a few years back, but I can't find it right now. It showed clearly that gnome-terminal was 3+ times slower than most terminals.
Thank you very much for Gnome Terminal improv.

I think the Software Oscar this year should go to whoever took the time to fix the slowness that is Gnome Terminal. Maybe they even fixed it so that international characters in mutt don't screw up too. But maybe that's hoping for too much.
Here's to being one step closer to switching from aterm. Not that I don't like aterm. But, ya know. And don't anyone say Konsole damnit.
Somehow I think bomb is the wrong word to use. I just read this paragraph in the article:
As it turns out, the summer of 1982 was the biggest in movie-going history at that time. E.T. was the box office juggernaut that stole America's heart, but the season also included Blade Runner, Conan the Barbarian, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Poltergeist, Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, Rocky III, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and a re-release of Raiders of the Lost Ark, which had grossed more than $200 million the previous year.
That's a lot of movies to contend with. I suppose its simular to recent years where there have been many summers with more than 3 "must-see" movies. But that doesn't mean that movies like Fantastic Four bombed. It just means they didn't do well commericially compared with other movies of the time. Tron still made a big profit (according to the imdb).
I think my favorite quote about Tron is one that was actually made on a newsgroup around that time. I've pasted it here for your enjoyment. From google groups
It's enough to make one leave applications programming and go into graphics......

Uh, yeah. I think that's what we would call an understatement.
The 3x speed improvement along would be worth the upgrade. I still am using aterm because Gnome Terminal is SOOOOO SLOW!!! Besides that, its always had trouble displaying my mutt sessions.

Appearently, it would be just hot enough to cut through the support structure of the World Trade Center towers.
Happy Birthday Hemos!! Hope you have a good year.
I just turned 30 back in February. Really, its not as bad as people will make you think.
Actually, I was born on the day Bill Gates wrote the letter to the Homebrew Computer Club. I wonder if anyone here was born on April 1st, 1976 (day Apple was founded)
Your parents put it together.
Yeah, but we're talking about Microsoft.
Microsoft: If you can't beat em, buy em
Government: Bomb em first, then try to beat em.
MS + Government: If you can't beat em, bomb em.
I mean if you can't beat em, bomb em. Right?

So its not truely a one time pad then.
Just a few days ago, I found out that not nearly as many people as I thought knew their delta from GMT time.

New ideas bring new challenges.
What ever library you choose. Make it AIT4

Easy enough.
I was thinking about this and
What happened to the article on Nature using flawed research to conclude that wikipedia is only slightly less accurate than Britainica?

I'd say the software wars image is LONG overdue for an update.
Damnit, that was supposed to have tags around it. I don't really think like that. I guess that's why they made the preview button.

There is also a market for maybe 5 computers in the whole world.
