For the last X years, hundreds, maybe thousands of 3rd-party software vendors have been making all their stuff for Windows. As such, we utilize these Windows apps for which there are no alternative in the Free world.
I still use Windows at home most of the time because it's easy for the wife to use, and easy to install and use various apps and hardware. I can, but choose not to, blow hours reading config files and man pages to get something running that would take maybe 5 minutes to set up in Windows. And no, it never crashes, because I only install software I want, and allow very, very few TSR's and unnecessary services to run in the background. Basically, it works.
Yes, I know I CAN do all this in Linux, but I don't have as much free time as some people. It's still very far away from being user-friendly enough for anyone to actually use as an all-purpose OS.
They let these things leak to create interest in the product. As nifty as your computer system may be, it's very likely that it's nowhere near the quality of a movie theater.
Yesterday we cried because games and game studios fail. Today we rejoice because an up-coming game has been leaked. We want to have our cake and eat it too. This mentality is a good part of the reason our types aren't taken seriously.
Q. How many pc's are used just/mainly for MSOffice?
The industry I'm in relies heavily on 3rd party apps that have been built for Windows. These 3rd party companies have spent millions making their apps work under Windows, because that's what "we" have begged for for the last x years. What are the odds of them jumping up and saying "Hey, you want a Linux version! Okay, we'll get right on that! And it'll be free!" ??
As much as I'd like to ditch MS on my desktop at work, I really can't, and imagine there are millions of users in the same situation.
We played with mercury... I was playing with a pipette, sucking mercury into it. Then I felt the heavy little droplet hit the back of my throat! I swallowed it! Should I be concerned? This was many, many years ago.
Linux isn't a bitch to run, it's a bitch to set up and get running.
I too have never had any major problem with Windows. The key is to not let every app known to man run in the background, and install good drivers. Windows itself (9x,2K) is perfectly fine. It's the crap you run on it that causes trouble.
I saw this on tv; there's butt-loads of solid methane on the sea floor in the Bermuda Triangle area. One theory of the vanishing planes is that the gas bubbles up to the surface and creates a big area of methane gas above the surface. The planes flew into the gas, and their engines ignited the gas, blowing them up. Possibly the same scenario with vanishing boats. I forget how the layer of solid methane got there, but apparently this is common in many places around the world.
I don't know if it's still the case, but it used to be that a lot of the customer service reps for various airlines were actually prisoners, making very little, and costing very little money.
I imagine a phone encounter with a whiny-ass customer going something like this:
"whine, whine, whine, I hate you, you representative of company X!"
"Oh, you got problems? I just got fucked up the ass by a guard! Go screw yourself. Oh, Thank You for calling Company X, Goodbye!"
I was able to download and use an ogg encoder on my home pc, but can't find on one their site today. Can someone provide a valid url? Yes, I've checked their download pages. This would be for Win2000 Pro. Thanks, really, I mean that.
They're really expensive, but are guaranteed not to have the ethical overhead of others. Plus, they have a cool little polar bear laser-etched into the side (very tiny, you have to use a loupe to see it).

Odds are, the writer Bill Wyman's real first name is William. He should just go by William Wyman, or W. Wyman, or Willy Wyman, or something.
Programming a desktop computer is not as promising as administering a cluster of Sun E10k...
Fortunately, 90-whatever percent of businesses and users use clusters of Sun E10k, and not desktop computers!
That was sarcasm, incase you were wondering.

Really, If we all bought all the games we love, they'd probably do better.

Is there a standard PIM messaging format to interchange appointments, contacts, etc., between various apps?
Because...
Microsoft pays taxes.
Microsoft employs many Americans.
Microsoft isn't a terrorist state.
Microsoft buys politicians.
Microsoft is mostly clean, un-threatening white guys.
Those that did survive the Holocaust did so with neither free nor spendy software. Heck, they didn't so much as have an Apple II! Oh, the humanity!

My first computer had NO hard-drive at all, and you booted up from floppy every time! So There!
That's great. I look forward to having to lug around both. Unless you're bound to a wheelchair and have ample cargo capacity, this is truly dumb.
Plus, is it really that hard to plug a wire into your camera to download the pictures?

You forgot something on the first list - gay Hobbits.
This thing was on King Of The Hill, in the episode where they went to Japan. I had never heard of it before that episode, nor since, until today.
From the title, I thought this article was going to be about DDR vs Rambus ram. Hmph.
Hey Asstard,
You got it wrong. It should be:
"One of them got it right."
Note that the period belongs inside the quotes.
F12, down-arrow to desired option, enter. Repeat if desired.
I agree though, it's annoying to have to enable/disable that manually for pages where you want your popup.
Who cares about all that crap. I just want to see the large-breasted vulcan chick in a bikini. How hard would that be to work into the storyline?
Yeah, not to mention that OIL money is probably the biggest source of funds for terrorism.
"I helped blow up a fireman's dog - by driving my SUV!"

They're called Polar Bear Diamonds.
