It sounds more like they made the file associations interface more end-user-friendly. I don't think it's ever been the case that any 3rd party apps were prohibited from running.
You're not a Troll, you're right! I agree totally. I got Myst for Xmas(tm), played it for about 10 minutes, then went back to playing Doom. If I want pseudo-intellectual stimulation, I'll watch Maury Povich. If I want to have a relaxing, fun, care-free time playing a computer game, it'll be something with weapons, explosions, and screaming things.
It kind of sucks that the Sims, possibly one of the most useless games ever, surpased Myst as most selling game.
Useless? It's entertainment. Exactly like Myst. But, it's fun, and is funner (yes, it's a word, so shut up) to a broader market. The number of people who are willing to sit and do silly puzzles and wander around is much smaller than the number of people who like playing dolls, making them kiss, making them die in door-less rooms, etc.
Actually, no, I don't. And I've never seen Titanic, and never listen to radio, and don't have MTV or VH1. I am happy to report that my life has been totally Celine-Dion-Free.
Exactly. As evil as MS is, really, Linux is not for the typical end user. Do you think grandma wants to stop and try to remember what/dev/hd? her cdrom is? Or patch and recompile the kernel to get her Golden Girls custom X server to work? Linux is great for those of us with the power and desire to use it, but it's a long way from the universality and ease of Windows for the typical end user.
Sci-fi is a fantasy/make-believe genre. I'm not saying it's good or bad, it just is. Regular fiction is also fantasy, but, it's fantasy that the Public can identify with. There are millions of soccer moms out there. If Oprah says that The Adventures of a Soccer Mom is good, it's likely to sell a lot to this demographic because it's a story they can identify with. If Oprah says that Willy's Adventures With BooBoo Alien Kitty on Neptune is good, it probably won't sell a lot, because there are few that can, or wish to, identify with it. Sci-fi's appeal is to a very small percentage of the population.
Some people don't buy cd's for a single song. Many, myself included, enjoy albums. There have always been Top-40 Shitheads who just buy the album/tape/cd for one song. And for them, there's a special corner of hell. I have never played just one song from a cd. Sure, I have random-mp3 mode when I'm working and don't want to think about stuff, but when I'm really enjoying music, it's almost always an album at a time.
Just last night, I accidentally sliced off a slab of skin from my index finger (trying to cut frozen butter for popcorn). Would the casier say something like "Would you like to try another finger?" Like how they now say "Would you like to try another card?". ?
This is something that happens quite often. The suits get a boner from the "sexiness" of Microsoft, and force everyone to abandon perfectly good systems for Windows. For example, I worked in this software company, where one of the head sales people often said that people loved NT because it was Sexy! So, they forced their programmers to build an "NT" version of what normally ran/runs on AIX. This "NT" version was nothing more than an X client (something like Exceed) running on NT, with the real apps still running on AIX. Anyway, point being, until these brain-dead management people realize what crap MS is, this is quite likely to continue.
True, to an extent. The real root of all evil is the misconception that computers are user-friendly, reliable, and behave the way they should. When I was an MS support person, it was nauseating knowing that the crap put out there in LUSERLAND was hosing people to such an extent that they had to either learn a LOT, or get someone who knew a LOT to fix them up. The funny thing is, no matter how many heapings of crap they were served, they kept coming back for more. And yes, there were/are many crappy support techs, but there are also many who actually have an interest in the technology they support, and use the support position as a stepping stone to bigger things.
Beats the hell out of me. I've been dual-booting various Win9x's and various Linuxes with LILO for years, and have defraged the various Win9x's fairly regulary, with no problem whatsoever, ever!
The only LILO troubles I've had are... 1) the Norton AV prompting whether to innoculate the MBR or not because it's been changed, though that's hardly a problem.
2) forgetting about LILO after removing a physical drive, and having to boot off a Win9x floppy and doing fdisk/mbr to make it Win9x-bootable. This would be user error.

...more processing power THAN my two PC's combined!
...I know less about them THAN all those US based company...
Thanks for your attention.

Thank You. Thank you very much.
I am proud that I do not even know the name of any Celine Dion song.
Thank you.
Or you could just download to a partition and install from there, eliminating the need for a CD entirely.

I was thinking, for some reason, that Leonard Nimoy is dead. But, I checked the Dead People Server, and apparently he is still alive.
Dead People Server
To some wacky christian review of Spiderman.

I've bought a lot of music that I discovered via "free" internet sources...
You should ask for your money back.
Oh, that's right, it's free.
Nevermind.
in god?
Talk about wide-spread ignorance!
... and actual criminals get caught and taken off the street? Wow, that would be neat.
Agreed.
The Black Helicopters(tm) can track you down and get you while you sleep regardless of where or how you get groceries.

Yes. I believe they said the same thing about the "New Coke"
