The pasport's chip was damaged. It could be very well changed or stolen with unlawful intent. It wasn't working. Period.
So much for asking for a re-issue, thus a "first world problem". Move on, guys.
Does anyone had worked for big automotive ones? I understand the need to oversee every process of writing software that runs on CARS, but in a web page? I need to fill about 100 pages of documentation for a little web site... I wonder if you have similar experiencies... and not only that: 50% of IT-related workforce is made from scolarship interns (saving cash, I presume), and the bureucracy involved, not to mention complete ignorance of technologies involved, from marketing to even systems people, gave me more than one headache in the process.
While I agree that there's a need for tolerance in civilization, that doesn't apply inside my home. I don't tolerate many things at my home, being religious / spiritual is one of them, but outside my castle, my domain, you can do whatever suits you & makes you happy;)
They're plenty intelligent girls out there that doesn't "believe" in anything, there's no need to get involved with the ones that are "practitioners", in a relationship way.
Wow...
It's stupid to buy overpriced hype-momentum ultra-cute gadgets from Apple in the first place and not expecting to keep paying a lot more for just about everything you want to do with them (like with Apple computers).
With Apple you pay as you go;)
There's even a wiki (in spanish) on the subject: http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_bomb
I think is Google's responsibility to refine it's algorithms, 'cause the must typical "bomb" used today is not about politics, but pocker / texas hold'em:(
That's a plain stupid lie. I'm old enough to remember getting to concerts and seeing no ads (but the artists being pretty wealthy, tough), watching TV and seeing only 1 or 2 ads per half-an-hour, drivin' in my parents car on sundays getting to say "Hey! there's this particular spectacular AD!" (must with lights, moving parts), no zillions of ads with no particular taste....
There's seems to be a particular thread that's reads like this "If not for the ads, you'll have to pay MUCH MORE for this and that", but that's a lie.... many of those products came to exists WITHOUT or with LITTLE showing of ads...
I have to agree with you. It's becoming too-permisive in the name of self-steem (and whatever), and is only making people more and more dependent on the gurus (those of us who can and do read manuals). Only that I don't object the trend, I like it, I like to have these people at my feet worshiping me as the leader, the provider, the one and only guru:)
On the other side: many of the replies to your comment simply don't belong to Sladhdot's massive army of nerds (like me), it seems to struck hard on the bunch of ignorant fuckspittles that come here from time to time to have something to say when asked 'bout IT by superior people.... hehehehehe.... in case they're any questions.... yes... I'm a System Administrator from Hell!!!!
The topic is not new to Slashdot. I think it's wonderful that there are other means to provide with broadband to people, but I think the alternative proposed by Lessig that the spectrum must be returned as a public utility to the citizens should provide with all the band we need. There's really a big discussion by "media" and "providers" companys at all fronts with many goverments to easy the way for this technology, proved that using phone-company's cables is hard, expensive and over-regulated. Many businesses see this as a really big oportunity, and once again keep things private-owned for the sake of business owners.
Aside from this theme, there's the interference: power lines act as antennas that amplify and increase (by air) the frecuencies the BPL modems use. And this is bad for radio comunications, notably amatteur operators.
As mentioned before on Slashdot, Japan's JARL has stopped any implementation of the technology if they could not come with an answer to the interference, and USA's ARRL it's threatening even with legal action, as a nice article they've made stats.
To give you an example of the amplitude of the problem, here in Mexico the technology is seen as a means to compete with the largest provider (some say a monopoly) by smaller companys, they've been granted capital by Google, Goldman Sachs and Hearst Corporation, and they talked with goverment officials (disclaimer: I'm one of them) to get sympathy (on competitive grounds and consumer's benefit), and my side has stated clear that we're not going to support BPL if there's a disruption in HAM's radio comunications.
Ladies and gentlemen: this is a HUGE, and we must wellcome anything that increases competitive business, lowers prices and amplify the reach of broadband access to the Internet, but keeps things as important as Amateur Radio working...
Duh... I've been using a variety of CMSs since I started to realize that it's just silly to mantain too many HTMLs by hand. I've always seeking to achieve simplicity, ease of use, features I use every day, etc... and through these years I've found many shortcomings, setbacks and a very deep dissapointing of them all.
The last packaged CMS I used was PLOG, I've even recommended the thingie here on Slashdot, but the thing just was smashed with too many comment-SPAM, and my google ranking hit the bottom (watch the trackbacks!!!). Even worst: when I decided to upgrade to the last version, it doesn't work with the last version of PHP, so I make the change and it took me about 1 week to write my own CMS.
The first thing I realized was that I've to keep all the past URIs working (so all of the search results keep coming to my site, to the articles they mean). So all the scripts check the way they're called to render the appropiate content. This is a pretty serious matter: if you switch a CMS there's a BIG chance your site it's going to plummet in search-site rankings, unless you can "emulate" the previous CMS behaviour.
Next: there's no-way to beat static VS dynamic performance, so unless you have the bucks, your CMS must render static content if you have too many hits (not an issue for me, but I'm working on it, and expect to have this feature ready in this week).
I think the CMS wars are a little out of hand when it comes to "easyness" - "features" - "performance". There are not simple CMS available anymore. And that's a shame.
I really doubt you can switch your CMS to another without loosing all hits stored in current search engines DBs without emulation, and I know no-one emulate other CMSs.
Your road looks pretty bad if you can't write programs, mess with URI rewriting and MySQL/HTTPd tweaking. Either you assume the losses in switching, or get your hands dirty plotting the best way to go.
...the UNIX boys do the UNIX stuff and the NT guys do...
Shouldn't we have to be MUCH MORE willing to accept that there are girls in IT? we start by accepting this fact, and being less and less "boy" centric, and many will come;)
You not only have to use a software for keeping track of stuff, but change the way you work. You have to issue a ticket for every request your customers make, and keep detailed info on every ticket you attend; once the ticket gets done, you have to print it out and lend it to your customer for a signature, and store those on individual expedients. That way, you keep a database-driven knowledge base of every curtomer, ticket and technical stuff related so you can make searches with many parameters, and also, you keep a paper trail that you can show to your boss or customers to resolve disputes. In the free software world there are many packages that attepmt to resolve this issue, and my favorite is OTRS, wich I reccomend a lot.
I can pick that noise too, but with an interesting twist: I actually can use it like some kind of sonar, really. Sometimes I'm on my laptop, giving my back to the door in the room, and to avoid a "comming-from-the-back-making-no-noise" joke, I just turn on the TV, with the sound mutted. It can give to me the actual position / movement from even a cat coming by, so no more jokes;). By the way, where you found that freq.? (15750hz)
Reading the article, only one of the answers uses correctly Can't, the others must use Could. Let me explain it: you can make your life around something you believe in, and you could some day probe it (or expect someone else probe it). When you live your life by believing on something you can't probe, you're wasting it. Thus the diference between could and can't take 2 different worlds apart: those who believe and could someday probe it (or probe it wrong, for instance), and those who believe and are aware that they can't probe (or deny), but live confortably with that. There's a third kind of people: those who can't tell the difference between could and can't.
Just an idea: what about shutting down as most SMTP servers as we can, sporting a media campaign before so everybody switch to IM during the blackout, so if we carefully select a "closing time window" we send as many spammers out of business?
I know this will only work if we work coordinated (something like turning the switch off to encourage electricity companies to get down prices), and only to get rid of the really big spammers (not being able to pay for infraestructure because there's no going to be any sales during the blackout).
xactly,
but that post came from the country where is a privilege not to go out of it, even for members of The House or other politicianns;)
BTW: it's "ay caramba!" not "ay carrumba", spelled "hai kahramba" you morons...
Don't missinterpret your rights. For instance, you have the right to:
Article 19. Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.
However:
Article 30. Nothing in this Declaration may be interpreted as implying for any State, group or person any right to engage in any activity or to perform any act aimed at the destruction of any of the rights and freedoms set forth herein.
And:
Article 12. No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks.
So, basically, you have freedom, for as long you don't interfere with other people's rights;)
(From The Universal Declaration of Human Rights)
Maybe, in USA, you have the right to contend this (by the first ammendent to The Constitution). I think that applies only if both contenders are american, but since the net is international, you have to use international law and conventions.
For me, you have to probe that, in a usenet or other net group, you've been the subject of one of such attacks, and not to waste other people's time with an arbitrary legal attack:) unfunaterly, thatis a very common thing in the States...
Incredible how fast the public simply forget about the most important facts. Maybe because the media is so saturated....
Do you remember one little girl, from Utah, who's last name is "Smart"? if you do so, you can also remember the fact that this pseudo preacher who kidnapped her was acting like he was homeless... only for the trained eye it became aparent that no matter what agency, asociation or even the american people as a whole simple can't find a homeless person.
At first, it's nobody's bussiness, but at this times... a fact like that can end in terrible consecuences...
Allways, the most important issue when this things are put to debate, is when to put them in effect and when the civil liberties, one of the most important principles in a modern, democratic and FREE society, can rule again.
Why bother to buy this DVD? You could wait a little longer and have the "Ultra-Special Gazillion-DVD Bundle-Bonanza" with all the bells and whistles, for a discount, a little after the release of the final installment of the Matrix saga (or any other saga).
Its plain stupid to be on a rush and go get the movies in separated DVDs, you'll end with less features, needing to sale them on E-Bay just to buy the final-special-edition.
Agree. Specially in light that Aaron was sucidal before.
The pasport's chip was damaged. It could be very well changed or stolen with unlawful intent. It wasn't working. Period. So much for asking for a re-issue, thus a "first world problem". Move on, guys.
Hum... the 11C is the scientific version, the 48-series are much more newer...
Star Wars fans get the prettier girls! Ok, I stand corrected: Star Wars fans get GIRLS!
