We've had this in the Netherlands for ages now, since somewhere in the 80's. It started with audio and video cassette tapes, then cd-r, dvd-r, etc.
The government is now investigating the company that 'handles' these taxes because none of it is getting to the people where it should actually be getting to, the company just gives their directors big bonuses and they keep building bigger headquarters. The 'home copy tax' may get dissolved because of this.
By the way, we're still getting prosecuted and attacked for exchanging MP3s, even though we're supposed to be paying through this home copy tax.
Basically, all it did was indiscriminately delete all your *.mp3, *.avi, *.zip (!) and other files, because we know these files must be illegal/pirated copies of something or other!
Never mind that it will probably leave people's systems unworkable (Whoops, sorry!)...
That's probably because the default is now to immediately reboot windows XP (without warning) instead of giving you a bluescreen... yeah, that's progress.
Might have something to do with environmental laws, don't you think? Causing that much pollution (and it _will_ cause pollution) in a residential area is probably frowned upon.
you know you're on the cuting edge of technology when Stuff and Maxim have both already covered your articles in print. come on, this is retarded. raise your hand if you didn't already hear about this.
People who are "reading" Stuff or Maxim don't have a spare hand to raise.
The people at the Badger Institute Of Devon, England have been conducting experiments and have come to the conclusion that yes, badgers can generate electricity while running in a wheel, if two other conditions are met; those involving mushrooms and a snake. Oh yes, it's a snake.
Magical Trevor, the head of the department, was unavailable for further comment.
Everybody thinks this is a waste of space. But just you wait until those Holo cameras the doc used on Voyager go on sale.
You are aware that Voyager is a tv series, right? These holo-cameras don't actually exist, so it would be hard for them to be on sale... also, i'd be surprised if they'd use compactflash.
The album wasn't available for free, if you entered zero, you were presented with a 'handling free' of 45 pence (about 1 USD). Just Saying.
btw, i haven't downloaded it either way, i heard it was a bit tame from a lot of people.
Right before they're installing Sandvine to screw their internet customers over, perfect timing!

Screw that corrupt bunch.
The idiots at Brein released a similar "tool".

Yes, we really need more Global Dimming. I saw a BBC horizon program about this.
I've not seen one of those in a long, long time.

There's nothing wrong with freenode and even if you would have issues with it, there's always OFTC.
In short, "meh".
When you download MP3s, you're downloading rigor mortis.
How did you know i was downloading Cameo's Greatest Hits?
I'm surprised no one's done this yet.

2.5 million is HUGE numbers. In the UK thats like a 3rd of the population.
The UK has 60 million people. You can choose between either failing at geography or maths.
If it has a proprietary OS, why does it need a virus scanner? Sounds more like it's running a modified version of windows to me.
You clicked on a link to something called 'boingboing.net' and were surprised to find porn ads?
lol

Ummm yeah... submitted by an "Anonymous Reader", not by the owner of emusic at all, right? /wonders how much that cost.
As long as its IRC client doesn't join #Debian on freenode by default, like Knoppix, Kurumin and all those others do or there will be hell to pay.
People can't seem to get it into their heads that #Debian is for Debian and not derivatives and they should ask for support from where they got it.

("Stuff/Maxim has tech articles??")
Would it work with badgers?

'Can a rodent generate enough electricity to power a light by running on it's wheel?'
If it thinks it's being chased by Richard Gere, then yes, it probably can.
Thanks to spyware, I am still make a living.
Fuck you very much!
Why don't you tell us what software it is, so we can all avoid it like a plague of rabid weasels?
Oh wait. You posted as anonymous coward. You don't want us to know what worthless spyware-ridden crap you write.
Nevermind.
take a look at this raid 0 floppy setup: http://ohlssonvox.8k.com/fdd_raid.htm
Yes, you could probably look at that if it hadn't gone up in flames from being slashdotted.
Use the Google Cache instead...
The accepted way is to send an email to abuse@ or to the abuse contact listed by ARIN for the netblock you are trying to lart.
What if all email to abuse@ and the contact address in the whois info is simply bounced?
Is there a 'higher authority' to which you can address your complaints to?
Don't link to geocities pages on slashdot, they will last about 30 seconds. Use the Google Cache instead.
In Soviet Russia, their stargate overrides YOU(rs)!
This patch is fine and dandy, but I cannot find any dual layered discs anywhere!
Yes, i noticed that too while looking for a DVD-writer.
Also, appearently you can't write these dual layer DVDs at more than 2.4x, even on a 8x drive.
It's faster to burn 2 single layer DVDs. (And probably a lot cheaper, even if you *could* find these dual layer DVDs)

PS There's a species 8472 behind you.
Do you have an article somewhere to point to? You have got me very curious now - if you're serious and not joking that is.
No, i'm not joking...
