    He will get the ip of the modem (Verizon assigns their modems static IP's in this area atleast they did for me), and you can trace route to that to ge the hostname.

    His method, while primitive, does in fact work.... not that it is doing him any good.

    For instance, many times somebody will say, "Do you wnt a coke?" when they mean, "do you want a soda." "You will need a Jeep to get up that trail" meaning "you will need a 4x4..." The list goes on.

    Everytime the Washington Post or Time prints, "the father found out his daughter was a prostitute after googling her name..." is free advertisement for Google, and simply reinforces a self sustaining behavioral feedback to use Google to google information on the net.

    I wonder this too, but a bomb on a plane in flight will probably kill everyone on board - not so in a shopping mall.

    Higher kill ratio.
    Spectacular.
    Passengers on a plane tend to be more affulent.
    The monetary loss of the plane itself is very high.
    Disrupts air travel leading to wider economic perturbations.

    I guess that is why they are after planes. But also they go for busses and trains and nightclubs.
