I've been using OpenBSD on and off for a few years and have always found it works exactly as its meant to. Secure, tight fast. It might no have any/some support for things like SMP but then again its not aiming to..
It can all be summed up in that favourite sig.
"UNIX is userfriendly. Its just really careful in choosing its friends"
I don't think it will be needed in the main case as IBM will pull SCO under with the length of the trial. They have much deeper pockets. However for the little folks that will be good. Also hope they EFF get in on it and all works out nicely
I'm sure there must be some law where they have to notify the people calling. They have to state that the call may be recorded for training and security. Might just be worth asking them when/if they call. The DPA (Data Protection Act) might contain something
Debian is a well though out and stable distribution. People might complain that the packages are old and yes that might be true but they work. IF you want a machine to keep running then its great. Apt-get package and sit back. Also for security its great for admins. apt-get update && apt-get upgrade and thats it. No dependancy problems. Even the unstable is pretty stable
Once again another reason to get rid of the DMCA. DirecTV should at least clarify their position (unless they are painting everyone with the same brush). Another great kick from coporate America
So I've been alive for 200 years wouldn't I start getting bored? There are only so many episodes of the Simpons you can see before you know all the words. Then again I suppose in 200 years something new would come along
Of course it would mean that a ship could go into deep space and finish with the same crew it started with
There was a report here on/. where someone had the DMCA invoke as they had Office (as in openoffice) in a URL. Again same exact problem. However the submitter makes a valid point what if its a hosting company that doesn't know any better? Why should a customer be turned off for someone elses mistake
Well good luck to him. One problem I've found working at home is a lack of social interaction with friends. Also it can be far to easy to work at any time. Hopefully the online community will at least support him to some respect. However you can't beat a good drink out with the lads (or ladesses)
Taking I get 100+ spams a day I've found that its a goo idea to at least use tagging. For example posting on usernet I use usenet@domain.com with something in my sig saying actualy email is me at domain dot com. Anything sent to usenet is automatically deleted. Doesn't stop the flow by any means but at least I can track where the spam came from.
If you are feeling clever you can even use addresses that expire after a week. So something like epochseconds@domain.com
You get what you pay for. Now all off this might push prices down which is good but what about the quality? Some of the laptops I've used from China (which were bought by the company I worked at) and TBH they sucked. Unreliable, bad screens. Now I don't want to tar all of China with the same brush but I can't help but think this will happen.
All of these people have bought stuff on E-Bay and are surprised when companies turn round and so no. I know it hard but if they went through a reseller then it would be all supported etc.
The companies have no idea what state the hardware is in so if say a controller has gone they won't to make sure they are covered.
On the software side however it is slightly different. I can understand them wanting you to pay some fee but prehaps not full price as a matter of good will. Then again as the old saying goes
I'm just waiting for market to see this and realise that you can, totally theoertically on a full duplex connection double throughput. So 100Mb/s give 200MB/s so I would guess we will be seening "108Mb" very soon
Games will live on because people will still at some level want to play them. If that is through illegal ROMS or they actually maintain the physical hardware they will always be there. Also with any luck the rights will expire in a few countries so that ROMS etc will be legal there Of course there are people who write there own which also captures the original. Good things won't die quickly. Tetris + Pacman live on. Ultimate Fighter 400 FX Special Edition doesn't (and I just made that name up)
There is an old marketing saying that a good customer will only tell 3 people about good service. If you however give them bad service they will tell 20. As such its harder to make a good repuation than a bad one

Nintendo have always been good with Hand helds. How about a portable N64 or something which plugs into the gameboy advance ala the old Sega 32x
