Everybody here is arguing about whether or not this is feasible, and how the parent company has so much money they should just be funding this themselves. Obviously there's more to the story than what we're seeing here, it would be interesting to find out what the investment prospectus was -- how were the residents of new mexico convinced to vote, by majority for this tax increase.
Maybe Apple just wanted to draw a line between a major change. It could be a new-ish set of API and the name is the line between the new API and the old. This could spawn updates/re-writes of apps to take advantage of new features as well as faze out old dead apps.
In this case it would not the name so much as the idea.
This kid could make millions, but no one is going to want to be his friend. Every time someone gets busted for speeding he gets a wedgie. Good thinking.
Of course this had to come down to a platform war. Well you know what, my mother fucking dad can beat up your mother fucking dad on a mother fucking plane!
Apple just went through a major change in hardware by switching to Intel. This probably took a lot of man hours to verify everything worked perfect. The same man hours that would have previously been used to think of and develop new and inovative OSX features. So is anyone complaining? Maybe Steve's "magic" comes when there is a whole bunch of new things he's excited about, but this time around other things were important just not exciting.
I say, shut the hell up. You can run Windows on your Mac now. No one can ever diss your Mac again. The only person that can make fun of a Mac is someone with a better Mac.
"Macs suck, they can't run games!!" "Really? It runs Windows, why can't it run games?"
I've been a Mac user for some time now, yet I still need to write Windows versions of our software. Before I had a PowerBook(15) and a Desktop, but got pissed because I was tied to my desk to do Windows programming. I searched for months to find a computer that measured up to my PowerBook. In the end I got an IBM Z60m. After hating that, I decided on a MacBook Pro to replace both my laptops. (Thank god for IBM's 30 day return policy)
I don't feel like a sucker... IBM (Lenovo) is a sucker because demand for their product has gone down... MS is a sucker because I wasn't forced to buy another copy of XP with a new laptop...
With MySpace being one of the most frequently visited websites in the world right now, they need some MySpace code. Just imagine a nice anti-ie div popping up over that kid in the mirror holding taking a picture of him/her-self.
It really can't happen. Even if they try there are too many people willing to spend their time and money hacking it all together. It's like asking "what if copying music over the internet became illegal?" The digital world is not determined by law, but more by the common oppion of the hacker*.
* I don't mean hacker in the zero cool sense of the word. I mean hacker in a more real sense, like people who take things that shouldn't/can't work and make it work.
With a nice large wide screen, 5.1 surround (or better) and a couple of lazy boys, why go out? Unplug the phone, turn off the lights, crack a beer a you get a better experience. Just, make sure everyone takes a leak first. Nothing ruins a movie more than a pause to pee.
When a child starts acting ridiculous, you ignore him. When an idiot professor makes idiot predictions, ignore him. Why is this tool getting press? Next time he predicts anything at all, we should just all look the other way.
Unless you are already living off the grid, growing all your own food, and never traveling farther from your home than you can walk, you have no moral standing to criticize my choice of vehicles.
Did Apple really switch? Or just add Intel to thier product line? If both IBM and Intel give Apple advantages, why not stick with whatever is the best option for each given product?
...create a law banning the sale of video games, marked rated M or Adult, from being sold.
Aren't you talking about censorship? Rob everyone of entertainment because some people don't think it's right? Because some people expose the fragile minds of their children to it? This makes you one of the bad guys. Just because you (or anyone else) doesn't think it's right doesn't mean that no one should be able to create or purchase it.... OId argument... freedom of speech/expression, etc. I think you're missing the point.

Since when do americans vote for a tax increase? That's the real story.
step one: convert to xml
step two: <shrug>
step three:collect underpants
Have you ever seen a how a Mac desktop case opens? How all the cables are out of the way for easy upgrading? Seriously... what are you talking about?

I'm having a hard time deciphering what's sarcastic and what not. Maybe I am totally missing why this post has been modded insightful...

I win.

I just paid to see Ultravoilet.
Big mistake...

This whole subject makes me want to watch Mad Max over and over while I stroke a shotgun.

Is cycling ok?
What about a horse?
What about changing the music in Jaba's lair? WTF was that all about?

You're right, I did misinterpret it and I apologize. I think it was an easy mistake to make tho. ;)

But sales of Arnie movies to minors will never be contested. Everyone should be able to watch Predator.
