Advertising is only worth so much. That is what fuels this sites. That is pretty much the only thing. Compare the total amount of money spent on online advertising in 2010 (~25 billion across all companies) with the "value" of facebook (50 billion). Even if they controlled the entire online ad market, they wouldn't have nearly that value.
