Man is it really starting to feel like the 21st century!!
This article is way off. Beware of any editorialist's thesis when it begins, "In somy ways..."
Globalized instant communication is a wonderful thing. It does not make us like one another less. The truth is, we barely know one another.
I remember talking to a Chinese person and her saying, "You Americans really think we're so utterly suppressed over here. I love China." And I remember talking to a person from the Middle East (maybe Turkey?). He said, "I really thought you would be a lot more arrogant, but you aren't at all."
After that, we struck up a conversation about stereotypes we have of one another's countries (of course he had a lot more of America than I did of Turkey). So I'm not a rich, imposing, arrogant Cowboy after all! Good to know.
On the other hand, I once talked to a Palestinian who was so angry I could barely have a conversation with him. He wanted me dead, seriously. And I got angry too.. REAL angry. Of course, I believe this to be a special incident due to our nation's rather unbalanced policy over there.. (in my opinion, don't flame me..) so I don't fault him for it.
You can't stop globalization, and it simply shouldn't be stopped. I think we need to talk more, rather than less.
Oh, but working where I work is more fun than any computer game could ever be! I get my entertainment from my positive work environment, grey Lexus, and cult-figure nerd/Chairman!
Well there's an awful lot of "could have"'s in there. The problem is that science has proof of so much, whereas religion, as its called, requires faith. Not to say that faith makes it untrue.
I wonder though... those that don't believe in Jesus, and practice drastically different religions.. to "us," they are going to hell. To them, what if we are going to their equivelant of hell FOR believing in Jesus? (I'm not saying we ALL do, I'm just speaking generally here.)
Chinese people don't believe in Jesus or "God." Are they going to hell? And if so, does that mean that, here on earth, they represent satan and we should either convert or destroy them? I like the Chinese people I know.
In the end, my point is that science and religion don't always mix. But they just might one day... because remember one thing:
Science and religion are exact opposites in the aspect that religion is pre-defined, whereas science started at 0 and has progressed through time. In the end, they just might meet up... I know when I look up into the sky and the stars, I have a much better sense of "heaven" that pure science OR pure religion can prove to me with texts and theories and accounts. It's just THERE... those stars. And for me, that's where science+religion make perfect sense and symmetry.
Man... I don't know if this is what I want America to become.
Are the police gonna tap into this? Wirelessly be able to find speeders? Everything's becoming so technical. "Well, the hot coffee was TOO hot, I want $200 million." "Well, my parents were segregated by racist whites... but I still call that this kid I see sometimes a 'white boy' or a 'cracker.' But I'm just kiddin' around, I'm sure it doesn't really bother him."
I guess I'm just ranting about the details of society in general.
But I really believe at some time we're going to have to ask outselves... how far is TOO far in what we do, and can we ever just let certain things go, even if it does giving up some profits?
Oh GRAET. And what does this mean for us Mac users? We won't get to be citizens of the United States? We're going to have to move to some non-U.S. country -- like ALASKA??
Besides, this is Microsoft we're talking about. Two hour tech support wait to fix my national ID that just crashed?
Ugh! I'm moving to Petoria or the New Utopia (new-utopia.com).

Well, the great thing about the Internet is that everyone -- anyone -- can have their place, their nook, their niche.
But let's be honest here... if 50% of America has Internet access -- a good 140 some million people -- it's a safe bet that a minority of those 140,000,000 are "geeks" or "nerds." The net reflects what people online demand. If 90% of surfers were "nerds," I'm sure we'd see it slanted the other way.
I'm not much into programming anymore and I'm done with Linux. I'm a non-programming OS X user now but I come to Slashdot every day (more than once a day) because I love this community... but I also have demands for CNN.com, Macintouch.com, Apple.com, guitar websites, TheOnion.com, Yahoo Finance, Google, and so on... and none of those are "geek locations."
I think the net is just how I like it. In fact, it's close to how anyone likes it! The net's very adaptive because it's distributed. Like democracy, it shifts to what the majority want and allows space for the minority, too (though sometimes slowly).

Of course, what is a judge to decide? She'll get some money. It's hardly fair -- why should Sony pay for someone they've never heard of? But that's how it may go. I'm nevertheless sorry she lost her son.
Well, there is a difference between improving a game in hopes people play longer and purposely doing "something" to MAKE them play longer, in some addictive route or otherwise.
For example, nicer graphics improves the game. Great.
But how about a patch that every few minutes, takes 1 minute off your system clock, so you feel like you've been playing less time. There's a big difference between what he said and what you talked about.
Regardless, Sony did none of that in this case and aren't responsible. Plenty of people are sad, plenty of people cling to things. That doesn't make the "thing" responsible.. It's just too bad.

1) What is cold fusion and how does this compare to it?
2) It doesn't produce nuclear waste, but what are still the side-effects?
