I see a lot of really strange business trends going on. It seems so many companies are announcing terribly thought out decisions, and then reversing their opinion, and an entirely different set are content to do nothing but play a game with patents, where nobody builds or designs anything anymore, they just collect up the patents and sue people who actually are building and designing things. Why does this feel like some really weird corporate-hijinks fiction novel we're living in?
My office building is a single story cubicle farm. We felt two waves here of steady shaking. 37 miles away my fiance felt our apartment building swaying as well. No damage here that I'm aware of but some people are going home anyway.
Heh no kidding. People are gross these days. I don't want to talk to someone who's trying to lay cable. People don't seem to wash their hands anymore either, which instantly makes me suspect any cell phone or other handheld device. Here in my office I've gone in to the restroom and been punched in the face by a foul reeking odor, and the perpetrator of said odor emerges from the crime scene, swipes one hand under the water without soap or even drying their hands... and then struts out.
We will have to agree to disagree on this subject. There is only so much "world-proofing" one can do to a young kid. How is a parent supposed to know a neighbor they knew very well, and who had been over for dinners and barbeques is going to pose as a young boy to talk with your child for months? How is a teacher at a school supposed to know there might be a student with a malicious adult neighbor who might do the same thing? She was already an emotionally unstable girl. They were aware of it and did their best to cope with what they thought the problem was.
"Reiterating" the issue wasn't meant to accomplish anything but to offer more information to someone who spoke as if they weren't aware of all of the details. I realize this is slashdot but not everyone is posting a disgreeing response to slight your intelligence. The condescending response was unnecessarily rude.
I'm a bit surprised. My experience was entirely different. I loved exploring the land, and the missions were fun. I didn't like the choices they put in to the GTA games anyway, and in a game like RDR, you play it more like a western movie, where you learn about someone's life and the things that happen rather than playing "yourself" and what you want this guy to be like.
I also found tons of things to do outside the missions. Hunting, exploring, trading items, collecting things to win outfits... For the people who do like the minigames (I know someone who turns RDR on for just the poker) there are a bunch. I liked riding the horse around just to see what there is to see. I'm also surprised at the people who say it was so long they never finished it. I wished there was a bunch more. Many people I know who didn't finish it, didn't actually stop playing. They just couldn't get past a certain part or never got around to getting back to the missions.
I am not sure where this research or data came from. Everyone I know is still complaining their games are too short. There is also a huge surge in games like Terraria and Mineraft which have no endings.
It has been pointed out already though, that his blindness was more severe than simply not being able to drive a car. From the descriptions provided, his vision means his computer use is almost nonexistant without the express help of his wife. I am more inclined in this case to give him the benefit of doubt.
I can't consider my group of friends on there "nerds" but there are about 75 people on my circles and they post things constantly. I see videos, comments, pictures and links to interesting sites every few seconds on there. You must simply have 50 Google+ friends who have forgotten they have Google+.
In that case of the young girl's suicide, it was a grown woman who was acting on the things she already knew the girl was struggling with. Her parents did what they could to try to keep her off the internet and away from it, but she got online anyway.
The woman posed for months as a young boy to spark a fake relationship and then used that to abuse an emotional young girl. Yes she did have an issue with depression to begin with, but it is entirely unfair to say her parents or the school system did not already know and attempt to help her. It was a vile, cruel and completely malicious woman who came up with her sick plot to lead that poor girl on for months, only to turn and tell her she didn't deserve to live. That poor girl thought she had a little boyfriend who cared about her and talked with her when she wanted company. I don't believe you were completely informed on that particular situation. Mind, I'm not inherently at odds with your stance on the topic at hand, but in that situation it was simply not the same.
I can't exactly agree that americans are "seriously violent people". We are subject to things that the UK simply is not. We experience changes in population due to immigration that the UK does not. Norway, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium... they have all had shootings. Look at Norway. One man took out so many people and Norway is largely seen as a very wealthy, peaceful, and safe nation.
We have two very large borders with countries that also have guns. The border with Canada is easily crossed with firearms. If all of the guns were removed from the law abiding citizens (who are in their very nature the only ones who would comply with the law to relinquish them) then the undesirable elements can quite easily purchase them elsewhere and get them in to the country in any amount they choose. The UK is much more easily restricted.
In a related note, someone last night in the riots mowed down a bunch of people with their car, then torched the car. When they don't have guns they simply find a different tool to use.
I can't believe how racist slashdot has become. They may be ultra cool, but calling them brown is inciting hate. African American little people is the PC term.
I would suppose it matters even less because.mil should all be CAC enabled now. Good luck to the "hackers" getting in to the account without a CAC and the PIN.
There are already logs on pastebin that show that nearly all of the people from the leaked irc logs were also the big ringleaders in the anonymous attacks. They simply started working under the name LulzSec.
My biggest issue with all of this is that they inspired kids who think they're cool, to try to break in to servers and other people's computers. Even on something silly like Minecraft, kids are trying to "d0x" other users when they're mad. I don't believe these kids did any service to anyone but themselves. You can't even use the argument that "they were only showing it was too easy to get in, what if someone more malicious had done it?". How does that justify anything? They gave the accounts out to people who were then encouraged to get in to mischief themselves. They were encouraging other kids to become criminals just to have "fun".
If people behaved like this in real life, we would either be living in a society where vigilantism is the norm, or we'd be living in a police state within a decade. They did absolutely no good to anyone. Their intention was never to be good, it was to make names for themselves and feel powerful.
Maybe they plan on wounding the lion first like they do in bull fighting. Even with that, I can't imagine he'll succeed given the speed and sharp claws of a lion. Is this story just a stunt?
I'm not sure if you already know this, but there is a game out there like this already that's not without its own set of problems but still interesting. It's called Ace of Spades.
The game isn't attractive but it can be fun to play. It definitely needs improvement.
On another note, I help out on a site that keeps track of these indie game releases and Terraria is already losing steam (while Minecraft is already rising again in hits). A big complaint with Terraria is that people have already "beaten" the game. They've found all the armor, killed all the bosses. Building doesn't have the thrill that Minecraft building has. Also, whoever said Terraria is less buggy definitely did not play the Beta or the first final release. Just clicking "back" on the options menu was enough to crash the game.
Yes, Minecraft is buggy. Yes, Notch's code isn't great. Still, he has inspired an insane community. There is an entire world for Minecraft out there, with a culture of podcasts, "LP-ers" (Let's Play video makers), and people that run and play on certain community servers. These people are celebrities in their own right. Just watch when PaulSoaresJr logs in to a server and see him get mobbed by fans of his, or the amount of people who try to imitate things Coestar does in his world or on his videos. I can't even remember the last time I played a game with a community this dedicated.
I'm not sure how the last comment applies to the discussion here. I'm American, and don't know anyone who thinks that everyone wants to move here. Further, I can't recall ever hearing strangers say that either.
Just FYI, even if you give yourself up and age, later on when the missions are done you can go back to the temple of Avo and make a large donation. You can restore all of your youth.
From what I have seen and read, they were well off to begin with. I think they were already going to be well off even without the lawsuit. The settlement was more like giving Jay Leno as Lamborghini for his collection than giving two guys a good life they might not have otherwise had.
For me the first PC game I have played in a long time is Minecraft. It's the first time for a while that I have sat down at my desk and played for any real length of time. I love that game and get a lot out of it. Still, why did I ever switch to more console gaming? It's comfortable. I am on my comfy couch with a cold drink and my arms and hands comfortably resting on my lap with the controller, which I don't need to look down at to find a button or check my hand placement. If I am playing a game and driving a car (say GTA) then I can gently squeeze the trigger on my 360 controller and it slowly starts to cruise down the road. On PC it's like an epileptic robbing a bank. All gas or all brake. Sure I can get the MS controller which is identical to the Xbox controller, but then that takes away the "benefit" of the keyboard and mouse control. Some games just need a computer. They need more access to the controls and fit a keyboard and mouse well. Most of the games I enjoy just don't. I think even Minecraft would be more fun on a console. Just my two cents though.
How did they get him to agree? He's made a lot of dumb choices lately. He might be scared for all anyone knows and is just trying to cover himself. Maybe he did intend it, but is saying or posting something in a place that would provide a very unlikely chance of success still evidence intent? Where is that line drawn?
I could stand up right now and offer 500 bucks to the first co-worker who sets fire to our oracle server, knowing that there is basically a 0% chance of success. Is that still conspiring to commit a crime?
Are people taking his post seriously because he is accused of raping the girl first? For this to have been legit he'd first need to have hitmen as friends on Facebook, and second he'd have to have pursued it. There are millions of people who say stupid things on Facebook that aren't taken in the same context. I have seen many more explicit posts on Facebook and not one was taken seriously by anyone.

Wow, that was my strategy in Command And Conquer - Red Alert.
In the event of a dildo they always use the indefinite article. It's always _a_ dildo, never _your_ dildo.
I thought in another article we already discussed how we might be reaching the peak population soon which will start to decline?

They exist only as a software company now, producing games for other companies like Sega now does.

I think you might like the Amazon Money Transfer service. It's free.
