I currently am using about 120GB, but must of it is games (no need to back up) uncompressed (DVD) movies I havn't burned yet, but I can re-rent them need be. I have photos, but only a few gigs of them.
A sloppy back up of lets just do my/home (lots of long videos I don't need to backup, some knoppix ISOs that are old) is around 8 or 9 GB.
If I want to do my Linux games (pain in the ass to install) its another 6GB.
But for 150 dollors I can get USB2 drive and back it all up anyway.
I personally just back stuff up over the network. If the house burns down the least of my worries is going to be the data I have that was not important enough to leave a copy at work.
Well it also benifits public companies because the cost in in stock dilution and not company coffers (this is expected to change, but probably not under Bush's watch (that is a personal interjection, not based on any real research)).
So if a company gives out 10% of prophit in bonus's it cuts prophit by 10%, but if they give out 5 times that value in stock options (depending on the company/market trends a long option is worth between 20 and 33 percent of the present value of stock). The shareholders pay for it in the fact that their shares lose some value, and the company pays for it in lost potential capital liquidation (they sell shares that would fetch more on the open market for less then market price) but it does not show up as an expense on the balance sheets, so if the company stock is moving up fast enough nobady notices/cares.
If a company sets the strike price of the option high enough to guarentee that the options only have value if the company performs well is ideal for performance based compensation IMHO.

We have homosexuals for evolutionary reasons. Therefore it is natural.
It has to do with the fact that if 10% of a community does not have to worry about childbearing then it is a bennifit to that community as a whole. So communities with a genetic make up that was likly to produce homosexuals 10% of the time thrived.
I don't see how a long term homosexual couple is entitles to less then a Britny Spears 3 day marriage (which I find offensive to the institution of marriage, but am not trying to make illegel).
So he is trying to wedge his way (and others) in based on principals he doesn't even believe in.
If there was no public funds involved the LP would be less not be any mor elikly to be accepted into the debate.
So not only is he allegedl acting like an asshat. But he is comprimising on a major point of his platform.
The guy is a total chode.
Disclaimer: I believe in strong protection of our civil liberties, but lean left real hard. I would vote for a viable true convservative canidate over the democrats because I think a removal of cruft is a better base to enact social programs (like universal healthcare and education oppurtunities) then to tack more rules onto our overl complex and broken specially intersted rules we have now.
The problem is our 3rd parties are too extreme.
I like federal parks. (LP doesn't)
I like the benifits of sane pesticide usage (Greens don't)
I don't think the constitution is a strict set of rules that should be interpretted minimalistically, unless it conflits with my moral agenda (see old/. interview with constitution party)
I don't think the election prosses is for has beens to get more fame and support from those they dislike most (Nader)
I won't waste my vote to send a message that I don't 100% agree with.
I did think the socialist party was fairly good and I agree with them on many issues, they wanted to protect my civil liberties, allow me my vices as long as they could prophit from them. They didn't call inheriting wealth earning it. Don't think that someone working full time should be allowed to be paid so little as to remain impoverished.
As a pacifis and a leaning socialist I think that a draft for national service (not military) is a good thing.
I am strongly left leaning except I believe in a balanced budget (like Kerry/Clnton, Bush is an unknown here, because he has no track record nationally).
Draft bills that don't allow anyone out are anti war , not pro war. I personally believe that it is only ethical to enstate one in a time of peace to promote peace though. Because it is bad enough to have war, but to pull in non volentiers is worse.
Both canidates support the patriot act and it makes me sick, but I do (foolishly) believe that it will be weakoned under Democratic rule, because the "real" conservatives have been marginalized but the neo-cons and religious right.

I would imagine this will happen when political conservatives start supporting freedom, the constitution and fiscal sanity.
Which will probably come around the same time there are frost warnings in hell.
Actually if Bush loses this election I expect a more traditional conservative movement to take place in this country. Bush defeating McCaine was a blow to this movement, but the country saying that Bush is wrong should allow criticizm of that wing of the part to come to the surface.
Of course if Bush wins again we will have what I personally see as a re-afirmation of the worse of both parties (willie nilly spending and big government with horrible environmental policy).

Not that I have ever played a Hentei game or anything.

I find that in the sun it is much easier to see then a laptop. especialy in a mixed sun/dark situation (under a tree).

It's even worse when the test computer is a Mac.
(based on personal expieriance).
If I am using /. I am connected to the internet.
therefore I have pretty much every random fact (including election numbers) handy. Does that make me an idiot too?

No you fool.
I work with computers every day, and I can tell you they always work perfectly.
And every touch screen I have ever used is always calibrated perfectly well.
There is no need for a paper trail because they ran tests on 50 votes and found the machine was perfect.

We got Bush in a democratic election once actually (this time).
Ans once in a representitive election (sort of, if you ignore the "Florida bull", but Gore beat Bush if you were to measure the vote democratically.

affect is a verb effect is a noun.
except you effect a change.
so:
Stinky feet effected a change in policy, and that change affected my mood. The measure of all the changes due to stinky feet would be effects.
Hope that helps.

The likley voters has a republican skew though.
They typically count likley voter as voted last election which skews republican, because they have historacaly voted more.
high turn out usually equals win for democrats because they hold a slight lead in what the populus agrees with. But since voting is a right and not a requirement thousands of lazy people let the republicans win every year.

So what our saying is security through obscurity works?
can't have it both ways.
It actually probably has more to do with the fact that nationalism is scary as hell.
We nly need to look at the first 2 world wars to see how nationalism can be a bad thing indeed.
Heaven forbid a party I disagree with for the most part (but still has some good messages) becomes lead b a populist. As long as he doesn't start spreading hate for minorities I would welcome a populist leader over the curruption we have on both sides right now.

except the long battery life.
or responsivenes, though it was acceptable with the prelinking version, or whatever they did to make it quicker.
But barley acceptable.
I have a very small short term memmory, and dual monitors helps me juggle large abounts of windows without forgetting what I am working on.
It is very usefule for copying large amounts of random files too.
I have a laptop with a small monitor on my desk, and when i get stuck with a desk that has no monitor it is torture.
True that it is tech, but the 40 GB models are reaching the level where they will be good enough for ever.
The real need to upgrade will be non music features like built in camera, photo viewer, and movie playback.
very few people are going to need bigger drives though.
