Hoipefully by then it will be at least as easy to defeat the DRM in the next gen DVDs as it is to defeat CSS today.
Also, remember in the first days of DVDs, that region coding was going to be a real issue... And now its not an issue at all, since almost all the players are multiregion.
Call me an optimist, but I think we will be able to buy a Chinese player that will work around any DRM
How true, at my previous employments building, the AC filters were changed 3 or 4 times in a year because people kept getting allergies and severe flus
Eventually, after all efforts to "clean" the AC, they decided to replace it completely and they paid for flu shots for all the staff...
Eventually China will have to face it, internet usage will grow in such a way that no police will be able to silence its citizens...

Then the chinese will be able to enjoy the wonders of extremist political websites, wonder-viagra, animal porn and other wonders of the civilized world
Well, reading Douglas Adams convinced me of that... Oh, and the Harry Potter books... You must really hate yourself to eat everyday what those kids eat.
...but in a world where many people are satisfied with Windows 2000 and Word 97, Microsoft can stay right where they are and continue milking their cash cows for a long, long time
If people are not upgrading their Windows 2000 and Office 97 then MS is not milking its cash cow as much as they could, is it?
And this problem is only going to get worse with Vista...
Big label artists get boned by their label, not by Apple.
Seriously, their contracts are draconian, and in many cases an artist would get more money by "downgrading" to a smaller, independent label.
Now, they wont get MTV exposure, but a good band should be able to counter that by touring extensively and tirelessly (ask the Red Hot Chili Peppers or Soul Asylum about their early years)
So you say that the guys working at Phillip Morris encourage their kids to smoke?
I mean, Im planning on purchasing a franchise for a small convenience store (kinda like 7Eleven), but no way I would be letting my kid work on a place like that...
Nintendo did something with the Cube that neither MS or Sony did with their consoles' controllers: they made all the buttons distinguishable by feel.
I remember when the SuperNES came out, the Nintendo power article about the controller stressed that the A B and the X Y buttons were distinguishable by feel...
Strange that the XBox, with all those tens of buttons, couldnt do something like that.
We also have this thing called small claims court in which you sue to recover the money you paid and also demand punitive damages on top of that, and if you don't pay up when a court orders you to, there's a world of trouble awaiting you.
Yeah, but then you have to go to court, possibly involve lawyers... etc
or a Palm... I have to recharge mine daily or I run out of juice while reading an ebook on my commute
Well, maybe Im mistaken because here in Mexico, even "Brand Name" DVD players are multiregion... Im not talkin Apex here, but Sony, Panasonic, etc...
Also, no remote hack is needed, its multiregion right out of the box.
Maybe its because we have a mix of Region 1 and Region 4 discs (although most discs now in the local Blockbuster are "dual region 1/4")
Mine can even read Region 2 PAL discs (adjusting my TV as well, of course)

Some do. We seem to be a nation of masochists
Well, reading Douglas Adams convinced me of that... Oh, and the Harry Potter books... You must really hate yourself to eat everyday what those kids eat.
Actually, you are confused... The term you are looking for is "Akira"
(before you mod me down, or scream at me saying that Akira made perfect sense to you, THIS IS A JOKE!)
And the Hardware differences are not significant?
Do you still can run all of your games?

Extraordinary profits justify extraordinary risks, just ask any venture capitalist
Good to hear an innovative company is able to have its patent respected...
Bad thing is, the lifespan on a patent will probably make that what is right now good news, later becomes bad news

(Starship Troopers) ...it's meant 100% seriously
...and thats exactly what scared me about the book, the fact that it is actually serious about this ideology.
Here, have your dried frog pills
Besides, I remember reading somewhere (cant recall where) that Luke and Leia were 16 at the time of ANH...
Certainly a "Young Princess/Senator Leia" makes more sense than a "Young Luke Skywalker", but it would still strain credibility...
Was I the only one imagining gigantic versions of it?
With radioactive fire coming out of their mouths?
Destroying Tokio and New York?
Anyone?
Hello?
Oh bugger...
During our formative teenage years my wife's stepmom always said...
Wow, that must have been a very interesting family, when you were raised with the help of the second spouse of your spouses father... o_O
What else do you do on a Friday night when you're sixteen and as far from the bright centre of the universe as you can get?
Go to Toshi station and pick up some power converters?
If you are in a coprorate purchasing position, don't buy it for your company.
Yeah, right! And how would you explain to your pointy haired boss that he wont be able to play "Windows Vista Solitaire 2007"?
Nah, it was Colonel Mustard, and he used the chandelier!
Yeah, but it will still take 10-20 seconds to open a pdf document, or even MS Word
You know this "someone" and havent done anything to denounce it or correct it?
Its you, right? You vandal!
