I think they acquired Sun (and Java as a result) as a dick move towards Google. If they had any inclination to do so, way back then would have been the opportune time. Doing so now would be seen as admitting defeat (as if the court loss wasn't a big enough statement).
Either have users confirm every instance and be allowed to see what data is being accessed or allow the user to create separate contacts "wallets". I don't know the solution, but this is happening frequently enough that the OS needs to give the user more control than "yeah, have at my black book."
On iOS you can't even send a text without a user confirmation, but someone wants to dump your entire phonebook and that's OK???
So, went on an eclipse mini-vacation and I guess drove near the vicinity of a some trigger point. The caller was asking for another name, but still proceeded to sell me a pitch for a vacation spot I had "driven past." Now, was it my credit card company, the cell phone company, or the data-only account on my tablet who was responsible for leaking my location in real time to a vendor?
I haven't been entry level in a long time, but is it really that hard for CS grads to find work? I thought we had one of the best prospect rates of any field?
The atmosphere was different during the time of the dinosaurs. Maybe a raptor-decented intelligent race could have appeared ina few millions years if the meteor hadn't hit? I just think that it's impossible for one intelligent race to ruin a planet for other species to emerge. There could be some new species that emerges post-humans that will like the hot, CO2-rich, irradiated cinder we leave behind?
Absolutely disagree. There are lots of great scripts out there, but Hollywood is run by accountants now. The reason they keep recycling old hits is because they think there's a baked in market. There's a baked in comic movie fanbase who'll go watch any shitstorm Marvel churns out regardless of the ratings, they'll tell us how great it was until the slow realization that it sucked sinks in right aroudn the time the next promo starts airing.
I'm more annoyed when sites require passwords that aren't in line with the kind of data they're holding. I don't want to have to remember a banking-safe password when I'm trying to log into a fart jokes website.
As well it should remind you, as Scaramucci is the Italian form of Scaramouch as mentioned in Bohemian Rhapsody, and that's the only reference in popular American culture.
Very wrong. There was a movie called Scaramouche which I'm assuming the song references. It has what's arguably considered the greatest swordplay in American cinema.
This is interesting. I've got an older one and there's no way I would even configure it for wifi. I have a house full of devices demanding internet access for no good reason; none of them get it. I learned my lesson when my DVD player asked for wifi credentials to "auto-update firmware" and all it did was run slower then spam me with ads every time I wanted to watch a movie.
I had a friend in ROTC who was an excellent candidate. She had had a seizure ONCE back when she was around 12. Engineering student great grades, but they still kicked her out.
I can't stand Trump, think he's already the worst President in our history, but I have no problems with this decision. I'm an army brat, I was in ROTC, went to basic, had all the training to be a military officer (just never signed up), and I know 1st hand and personally of people being either kicked out or prohibited from joining for all kinds of medical issues, some of them ancient history, some of their mildly debilitation. The idea that someone is going to physically alter their body in extremely intrusive fashion that requires all kinds of lifetime medical and even surgical regimens to maintain them and the military is supposed to 1.) pay for it 2.) make concessions for the other commitments to that surgery; is a real head scratcher.
My only problem is Trump obviously did it as another one of his twitter shiny bauble, public debate distractions.
I haven't been on Slashdot much lately, but is that the new euphemism for hacking?
The simple rule is don't poke around someone else's defenses and then get mad when they treat you as a threat. How would you feel if someone told you "Hey, I've been trying to break into your house lately and just realized your bedroom window is unlocked!" ?
But Google decided they wanted to be Facebook 2.0: Total Information Awareness Consumer, and drive everyone through their Google+ interface; even if that meant blowing away their existing personalized home page. So, FU google.
I was going to post the same thing. I withdraw my allowance every week and live off that with some exceptions. And this is after maybe 10 years going cashless.
It makes it so much more easier to stick to a budget. Yes, the occasional online orders and gas I'll use my card. But, basically once a week I withdraw my "allowance" and live off that. Cash works everywhere and some places will even give you a discount if you pay in cash. Second, I like paying in cash because I know my debt is settled right there. I had tires put on last month and I withdrew the amount I needed and went to the mechanic.
I've never been robbed in my life. Like others have said, why worry about a credit card that has its own safeguards when you're carrying around an iPhone?
Finally, I'll echo the annoyance I have with our policy makers catering to corporate interests who want as many of our data points as they can aggregate. I listened to an NPR story about countries even attempting to push cashless economies. Not for me.
When I saw my boss's phone years ago had the ability to convert his phone messages into text, I knew we were officially living out 1984. We knew 10 years ago the phone companies were piping all their communications into a secret government room. You think they were just doing it to fight "turrists"?
I used an iPad and bought all my text books on Kindle. I even took notes on teh iPad. Now, what sucked was iPad styluses suck, basically like writing with a crayon. Maybe a $100 pencil works better but I'll never find out.
Second, you can't RESELL useless textbooks. If my alma mater is serious and goes with cheap accessible textbooks/e-books that's a game changer.
Nah, the writing was on the wall well before that. You can only overhype crappy hardware and mail replacements for so long before people figure it out.
No, are you telling me that every advertiser and TV show producer is now responsible for catering to your voluntary listening devices? Reap what you sow.
Some plastics look like jellyfish. It's a known problem for sea turtles that prey on them.
The media will still think he came up with the idea. He's the real-life Tony Stark, havent you heard?

Great observation. It'll take something like that for the general public to "get" Net Neutrality
Something tells me you have been all along

I don't think everything from the past needs to be turned into a museum. Lots of old technology hits the scrap heap.

Get a Garmin, better features. Yeah, you lose out on the TV screen on your wrist but I'll take that sacrifice.
