Oh gee.. I wonder why... oh.. I know.. they keep on gouging us on software. The way to lower piracy is to lower prices and make it feasable for people to be able to buy it. Keep on raising those prices while people are still poor and all you're going to do is keep on seeing the piracy rates go up. I just can't understand why it is that they aren't doing this.
"Apparently eBay is doing something right, but with no buyer protection, no seller authentication, and no desire to participate in seller-buyer conflicts, no return policy, can the business model be sustained?"
Meh.. welcome to North American society where people flock like sheep to be controlled by big companies. Seriously.. the amount of bitching they receive on the subject probably still isn't enough to warrent their time to implement. And they probably don't care.. they are a multi billion dollar company.. when you get that big.. the numbers on dissatisfied customers don't matter until they swing up exponentially.. and in our society.. we just take it.
This guy has been on Discovery up here several times recently. He came up with a compound that can withstand extreme heat. Its light as a feather too.. They had him sitting in a chair with a buddy of his blasting what was apparently one of the hottest welding torches you can find onto a helmet with this stuff on it.. which was in turn attached to his head.. something like 6-7000 degrees of heat.. He then proceeded to put a barbie into a little house covered in the stuff.. did the same thing and not even the hair was singed.. oh.. and one of the main ingredients of this stuff is apparently Coke(tm)
The guy comes off as being a total hick, but that man has some seriously smart genes...
Not surprised its not selling though.. $5000 minimum for something that has no practical use? Oh.. other then surviving bear attacks... you know.. seeing as we all have the space in our minivans for a survival suit that probably weighs in at the same weight.../me wonders how long it takes to suit up and if a bear would wait if you asked nicely.
i always just flip over to Discovery and watch it on Daily Planet up here... they almost always report on space missions/finds.. Tis a lot more enjoyable and informative then the sensationalist attitudes of many of our main media outlets.
Ya gotta respect the guy for obvious reasons but he's doing nothing more then politicing(sp).
On the surface, Bushy boys plan is sound. Setup a moon base (so we can also start harvesing its riches), build up to a mars flight and away we go. Its the timeline that sucks... stuff like this isn't supposed to go quickly.. patience...
There are a hell of a lot more people then cars on those streets and if there is to be traffic balance... one must be forced into conformity for the greater good of traffic. Vehicle traffic would be at a horrible standstill if you have pedestrians controlling traffic like that... think of the commerce that would be slowed in a city like that.. eesh.. thank god my TOWN consists of no more then 5-6 traffic lights total..
Well duh.. I wonder why... at $150 an upgrade I would stick with 98 too.. ME was a piece of crap, XP is great, but its expensive and I swear it just SEEMS that my privacy is almost non existant.. I honestly can't explain why I feel that way.. its just a feeling. Microsoft needs to realize that an OS shouldn't cost so damn much. They need to use it as a marketing tool for the rest of their crap.. god knows people buy it apparently. Cost of ownership of microsoft products is just too much for your average consumer. People simply just don't have the money for it all.. thus they pirate and then MS hikes the price more and makes it harder to pirate, thus.. they stick with 95 and 98.. I've always said that common sense doesn't drive consumerism in this society...
If I remember correctly from the book, Sauromon(sp) isn't really key in ROTK. I seem to remember him being taunted by Gandalf and the Ents at one time as he is in his tower after the ents go bugshit at the end of TT. Short of his character meeting his plotline demise I can't see this being a huge detriment to the film.
Am I remembering things wrong? It really has been a while.
My eye started to twitch as soon as I read the original story on google news. *twitch*
I can just see the announcement on google now.
1. Banner ads, splashing MS all f'n over google.com 2. Notification that Goggle is now using IIS and SQL server. 3. Google grinds to a halt as some script kiddie unleashes his/her wrath upon them in the form of a very small and easy exploit that my grandmother could code with 5 minutes of learning how to use a keyboard.
My wife runs a similar type of company in Canada. We are contacted constantly by indian and pakistani companies wanting to transcribe for us. I would never trust my medical records to an overseas company that isn't subject to our laws.
Mine was the time my bbs server crapped out. I popped the case top and found a moth that had made its way into the case via an empty slot and somehow got sucked into the CPU fan. Stopped the fan and overheated the CPU. Funny stuff... not.
The last amphibious cars where too expensive.. these companies seem to be working on the idea that people will pay extra for this... they won't... they didn't the first time around. If they want it to work.. they need to get an automaker to build it in mass quantities so it can be priced affordably. That would be an approx. $350,000 CDN car. I don't even think that our upper class would shell out more then half a million for a toy that is no more then a fad in its current state.
I would give my left arm to be able to look up old episodes of Coronation Street. Hardly a geek show or Sci Fi related, but its a classic.. and not so classic...
Am I the only one here that is a little annoyed that we can only mainline through an RJ11 instead of an RJ45? How are we spoze to kill someones bandwidth on a dialup???
Collaborate for christ sakes... its the human race going to mars... not just the chinese, or the indian.. or the US.. sheesh...
There is something seriously wrong...
on
LOTR The Musical!
·
· Score: 2, Insightful
...with creating a musical from LOTR. How can you put a very dark and dire storyline to music?? Sure it will be very much like Opera, but my god. Its just... wrong...
What does it do for kernel performance? Or does it do anything for performance?...I haven't run Linux on a desktop for almost a year. It hurts mommy.. please make the bad man go away!
Some of you will remember that bbs program.. it came out a year or two after I started calling out to the boards. I'd love to see what would have happened with this software if someone had of made it open source. Alas.. everyone liked the idea of OS but nobody wanted to release TG under that license. Telegard embodied everything I loved about bbs software. It had almost everything I needed until I switched from DOS to Linux.
Time goes on and we keep on reinventing ourselves..
...that I got my T4 early and filed my taxes a couple weeks ago.. even got my return last week. :D
Time to start begging the folks over at xmms.org to make a windows port. :(

My wife sent me this today. She's a LOTR fanatic (who hasn't read the fn' books.. I'm so ashamed).
March 3:
3019, Third Age:
Théoden retreats to Helms Deep. Battle of the Hornburg begins. Ents complete the destruction of Isengard.
