When I used to play on normal blueservers, I would use it all day long and it didn't bother me. There was many places where I just got lost running through it. No matter what I did, I got lost, so seq was my guide.
Well, 4 months ago, I got bored of the blue servers, and headed towards PvP. (Sullon Zek) I was using seq as a basic idea of where PKs where and such, or knowing someones level when I zoned it, to know if I am gonna be screawed. But, right before PoP was released it started getting insaine. PKs would zone in, they knew where you where, how your HPs was (if there kinda close to you, around the corner, where you can't see em) Suddenly, you didn't know what hit ya.
Each zone has some nice hidding spots, which can only be found by a druid, ranger or bard. (Those with a tracking skill) Its kinda funny how a wizard comes running from across the zone to that spot where you are. Durring which time, I shout hey, hows seq working for ya ?
Since its more or less broken now, requires you to run some programs on your windows box that are very risky, very few people are using it. People have to use there real game skill. Honestly, its much nicer that way. Belive it or not, I really hope they find an even tougher form of encryption for it.
Those who flame me from carebear servers, go try PvP before you open your mouth. You will soon learn how harsh of an enviorment it is. Things like seq make it really suck.
I just finished installing rh 8 on my workstation at work and a test server here. I am relizing more and more, rh isn't geared towards servers these days. Debian fits the bill better. But, as far as a desktop, rh is taking a great lead.
I had to sit and look at the new desktop changes from a normal users stand point. There are a lot of simular things to windows, which will make a migration easier. The things that the Linux comunity forgets about, things like user creation wizards, hardware installation wizards, and things of that nature are starting to work correctly:) We played around with Lindows and found its got a long ways to go.
The one thing that _still_ isn't done, and which pisses me off is a standard menu system. KDE and Gnome need to get together and create a standard.xml file which defines the menu structure and both use it.
Open office is installed on a stock desktop install, which is nice for your typical home user or office user.
Over all, I would give it a 8 out of 10. I did encounter 1 problem with my menus so far, I had to reset everything including my panel. This is a know screaw up with all redhat updates:)
Actually, the 3rd hand was intended. I am a big terminator fan, the T-1000 was reload his gun while still flying the chopper. They also wanted to see how many people would notice:) Its still pretty funny either way.
I am reminded about a sceen in Terminator 2 where they flew a helecopter underneath a bridge. I am not sure if that was really done, that was MAYBE 5' off the ground. Which leads me to belive it was an affect. I dunno, I am not a pilot. But, based on your post, your kind of hinting it. Care to shed some light on the subject for me ?:)
Cable companys have been using them for a long time. I belive at one point they where declaired illegal in NY becuase they where destorying VCRs, TVs and what not. Most new TVs and VCRs are designed to handle it. But things like black boxes becuase they change the resistinces will get knocked out by them.
Face it, you steal cable, thats your risk. It doesn't bother me. It WILL bother me if my VCR, TV or DVD player get killed becuase of it.
I belive IBM would be a better choice since they are seriously supporting Linux these days. Dell does use a lot of software based hardware. Thats why I requested no modem or network card. Didn't need the modem, but the network card they provided was unknown. They didn't know the chipset and I didn't want to take a risk/
Well, I own 3 Dell laptops. Never had a problem getting anything to work on them. These laptops are over 1 year old. The sound drivers tend to be a problem getting initially working.
I haven't ordered a pre-installed version of Linux from them, so I dont know what the deal is with that.
I had 1 desktop that gave me problems. It was bought in November, I deleted the XP install 10 mins after getting it and installed RH. There was something wrong with there hardware. So, tring to get them to fix it was a nightmare. They said that since XP wasn't on it anymore, they couldn't help me. Needless to say, after hours on the phone aruging with there techs explaing what the problem was, I got a full refund and returned the machine. Sure, this was a 1 in a million chance, but it upset me enough not to buy desktops from them. I just didn't have the time to build my own system, which I ended up doing anyway. I will still keep buying laptops from them however.
I have been using Linksys network cards and misc network stuff for close to 3 years now. I won't use anything else. Why ? Becuase, I have never had a problem with Linksys running on Linux. In fact, I just ordered another Access Point and 5 PCMCIA cards yesterday.
NVIDIA is another story. I have a GeForce 3, which I bought about 2 months ago. I *STILL* have problems getting it to work. I have spent countless hours making it work. So, I went back to using my old Voodoo 3 for my Linux workstation. I am using the GeForce 3 for Everquest.
I am happy that NVIDIA is at least supporting Linux, but it will take them some time to perfect it. I will give them some slack with it becuase I remeber the old Voodoo 3 drivers when they first came out.
Comcast around here has the quickest speeds I have ever seen. I get 600k/sec downloads, they don't cap it what so ever. My friend in Michigan, used to get 450k/sec downloads. Either way, I hope they don't go capping my line. Not sure if I am affected, or its the other way around. I am tired, and shouldn't be writting this. Oh well, still intresting for me to note the d/l speeds. Oh, and I get 300k/sec upstream, which is pretty amazing:)
In Germany alone, one survey by market researcher GfK found that blank CD sales jumped 129 percent this year. Purchases of pre-recorded music dropped 2.2 percent in the same period.
This year in the US, the sale of matchs went up 57% indicating that teenage smoking is up over 200%.
For those that didn't get my example. How does that percent of blank CD sales mean anything as far as "pre-made CD" sales goes. People use blank CDs for all sorts of things. I have friends who make backups of there applications on CD once a day, 7 days a week. So, a spool of CD-Rs can go pretty quickly.
Back to the article. This is a difficault thing to stop, even telling retailers you won't be shopping there for the holidays doesn't work as expected. There are still a ton of dumb people out there that will buy an "approved CD player" if need be. Its only a matter of time until someone figures out a way to rip from theses.
How will computer hardware vendors handle this one. Think of the number of returns over something this simple. Personally, to make a point. I would force them to accept the return and give me my money back.
I am sure the DOJ would be more then happy to allow MS to get bigger by merging in with another company. If the DOJ goes for that, they are *REALLY* dumb. Does MS really think they will be able to pull it off ? I don't see how this will help matters at all.
They have been talking about doing these for 4 years now. Maybe even more. Everytime Arnold signs something, it gets all screawed up.
Heres some sites that show some intresting info on it. Search around goolge, theres tons of sites.

I am a HUGE Terminator fan, and would LOVE to see if happen. But, I have been very disappointed many times already. If it happens, I am sure I will be the first at the theater. Until then, I will forget about it and see what happens.
Recently, I was told to seek out and find a decent computer for my cousin for a Christmas present. After searching around, I found that Dell had the best systems.
To make a long story short, I was told by the person taking my order that I am required to purchase a copy of Windows XP with the new system. I told him that I wasn't going to put Windows on that machine, it would be a Linux only system. The guy didn't really care. If I wanted them to pre-install a copy of Red Hat, they would charge me quite a bit. Mainly, becuase I would need to buy a higher up machine. Either way, I already own (Haven't used in years) a copy of Windows 98. Why should I buy required to buy another copy when I already own a copy (older yes, but it would work if I had to) of Windows. I am being charged $200 for a OEM version of XP. If I removed Windows XP, and install another OS, then decied to go back to XP. (Not like I would) I would have to call Dell for an authorization number. I am not sure how true it is, but it pisses me off to say the least.
I think this should be apart of the settlement as well. If I don't want an OS installed, or there custom software. I shouldn't have to pay for it. The computer comes with a few other applications that I have no choice but to pay for. Most of which, is MS products. Why do I have to pay for a copy of MS Office, when I would use Star Office if anything at all.
Thats like buying a TV (just a normal TV) and having the salesmen tell me I am required to purchase a cable hookup on the spot. I have no choice, other then not buying the TV.
Once I got the computer, its littered with stickers giving disclamiers and license numbers for all the MS products I didn't even want. On the side of the computer is a lable with the XP license number AND a warenty number. Which, I can't remove or I loose the warenty. Which, IMO, is complete BS. Don't mind me, I am just sick and tired of dealing with MS these days. I want to run something else, and keep getting backed into the wall. Yes, I could have build the computer for her. But, my family just wanted to buy it right off the bat, and not worry about fixing it them selfs. (More like me fixing it:) When it comes to laptops, your SOL. Windows or no computer.
I could have swarn that 100Mbit used more then 4 wires. Either way, if it can use 100Mbit on 4 wires, then you can still run 2 seperate lines via a single cable.
I agree, there is no reason to run 10Mbit, but you never know. There are plenty of people who still do.
A big question to ask your self is are you running 10 or 100Mbit ? If your only running 10, your only using 5 wires out of the cat 5 cable. (Or is it 4) 100Mbit uses all of the cable. If your only running 10 (Which I couldn't understand, with 100Mbit cards so cheap these days) You can run the phone line inside of the same cable.
Personally, I would run 2 cables in each room. Unless you have 2 offices. Think about it, with 100Mbit you can have a smaller hub in each room if you *REALLY* need it. Chances are, you won't be using that much bandwidth all day long.
Plus, with the new 56Mbit wireless standard that was just released, I am not sure how many people will keep using cat5 cable across there house. I have my main machines running at 100Mbit (There in the same room), and everything else in the house is via wireless connection. Once I get IPSec working, it will be less of a hassle to worry about the security of the network:)
At any rate, 2 in each room seems plenty for most home LANs. Unless you have 400 computers. My old house at 40 machines running 24/7, and 100Mbit was more or less required. (Don't ask:)
BTW, this site doesn't support Netscape. They don't know how to close off tables. Why is it that more then 40% of the websites I have gone to recently do that ?
I just tested a few in Netscape 4.78 for Linux and the Window appears like it would in Windows. As far as the sound, its currently disabled, so I don't know if it works or not.
.. a company like IBM to take a nice visist and show them the security of Linux and how easy it would be to move there site over to it, and have it back online without the judge getting pissed. (He might be pretty happy)
How can Microsoft *NOT* be blamed ? They created the Windows NT(tm) Swiss cheese security model(tm), who else is to blame ? Serious to medium security holes are being found every single day in MS products.
Are there security holes found in a Linux based app ? Of course, no one is perfect. But, we don't have insaine dead lines, and generally, have some smart developers working on projects, and of course, its open source. Which cuts down on quite a bit, and security issues are cleaned up pretty quickley.
At any rate, I think its time for companys like IBM to start sending out there sales guys to all goverment offices and see what can change.
They said Miguel was not interested server-side-wise in an integration with anything else but IMAP.
Yes, me and seek3r had a "meeting" with him at the O'Reilly conf this summer. For some odd reason, he is insainly gung-ho over IMAP. Which is fine, I don't care about the datastore. As long as theres an XML-RPC intreface to it.
This is not only shortsided but dangerous since OpenOffice.Org has started making a scheduller and they are much more friendlyer towards phpgroupware.
Seek3r has been talking to them quite a bit about it. Hopefully, things will come about with them. They are kinda dragging there feet with getting something going. I really don't like the way there development works. I am not going to comment on it here, but its why seek3r is working with them and I am not...:)
Of course, developing a plugin for evolution is not that hard. Its real good code, it has sync plugins already so building some xml-rpc layer on a plugin for synching with phpgw (they both already support vcards and ldap and a bunch of stuff) so that who cares if miguel wont do it, you can do it yourself.
You wanna do it ?:)
I think they are both great tools but I really would like to see evoltion become a phpgroupware client. It would leverage them both towards the sky since outlook will be integrateable -to some degree- with phpgrouwpare itself (since it will be an xml-rpc/SOAP server) and this would make more eyes turning their way.
I agree 110%. There are a slew of people out there that think the same, just for some reason, there are some that are blind to the concept.
I think phpgw will be the next standard for groupware computing allover the world.
There have been a few people talking about doing it. I know I won't be doing it anytime soon. But, if there is someone out there willing to do it. Be my guest:)
Thank gawd. XML-RPC and SOAP are an utter crock. Why this sudden desire to shoehorn everything into HTTP? Simple, it makes it easy to sneak non-web content in and out through firewalls without any of that tedious mucking about letting the security people know what you're doing. Uh, until firewall developers turn in the arms race, where application layer packet inspection becomes the norm and - oh hey! look at that!! You're right back to square one.
Its to make things standard instead of creating a new protcol for everything under the sun. Why do you think jabber was started ? XML-RPC is using HTTP so there not reinventing the wheel. I don't know about you, but I like to make my coding job easier.
I am not even sure why your bringing firewalls into this, this is what XML-RPC is made for. Not sure what kind of content your soo worried about. Last time I checked, there wheren't any "pr0n" sites using XML-RPC.
RPC was invented to do remote procedure calls, that's what it's for,
USE IT if you need it.
... and what do you think where doing ?!
and `phpGroupware'? What the hell is that? Oh look, it's your userpage. Riiiiight. Seeing as I haven't heard of it, it's not exactly the default corporate standard, is it. In fact it's... what's the word.. IRRELEVANT! Of course they have more important priorities than some toy "groupware" project.
This is classic. Ok, so you haven't heard of phpGroupWare. Try going to the site and finding out what its all about before shooting your mouth off. Not sure how this is irrelevant. Evoultions 1.0 version was released today claiming to be a groupware application. Which it really isn't, becuase there no true was to share data with others and work out your goals and what not.
So, let me get this straight. phpGroupWare is a "toy groupware project". Then, so is Evoultion, Gnome, KDE, the kernel, Xwindow, Emacs, and the other million open souce / free software applications out there. (As far as the toy part) I am not sure how you can go off call it a toy. Sounds like a hard core Windows users to me.
Sorry for the flames, but some people are just asking for it.
If theres a company willing to do it, be my guest. I work on phpGroupWare in my spare time (Well, 98% of my time:), as so do most of the Evolution developers. Its not really a plugin for phpGroupWare, its simply a XML-RPC or SOAP interface to Evolution.
If Evolution where to create a modular API for there datastore, it would be very simple to create an option for where it should handle its datastore. (Or call a remote server to handle the job). From there, its also possiable to create a simple cache for those on the road with there laptops. When you get back to your office, you sync with the server.
<soapbox>The point is, that there blocking out access to other projects. Which, IMO, isn't the best way for open source / free software to get anywhere. We develop with a different point of view. We want to work with every other project possiable. We are serious Linux guys who want to see Linux succeed. Using just an IMAP server for the datastore isn't helping matters. </soapbox>

Seek3r has been talking to them quite a bit about it. Hopefully, things will come about with them. They are kinda dragging there feet with getting something going. I really don't like the way there development works. I am not going to comment on it here, but its why seek3r is working with them and I am not
Of course, developing a plugin for evolution is not that hard. Its real good code, it has sync plugins already so building some xml-rpc layer on a plugin for synching with phpgw (they both already support vcards and ldap and a bunch of stuff) so that who cares if miguel wont do it, you can do it yourself.
You wanna do it ?
I think they are both great tools but I really would like to see evoltion become a phpgroupware client. It would leverage them both towards the sky since outlook will be integrateable -to some degree- with phpgrouwpare itself (since it will be an xml-rpc/SOAP server) and this would make more eyes turning their way.
I agree 110%. There are a slew of people out there that think the same, just for some reason, there are some that are blind to the concept.
I think phpgw will be the next standard for groupware computing allover the world.
hehe
There have been a few people talking about doing it. I know I won't be doing it anytime soon. But, if there is someone out there willing to do it. Be my guest :)
ROFL
If theres a company willing to do it, be my guest. I work on phpGroupWare in my spare time (Well, 98% of my time :), as so do most of the Evolution developers.
</soapbox>
