If something is digitally transfered to outside the US it is considered exporting (which is why there are export controls on cryptography software). So why wouldn't downloading from outside the US be importing?
I try my bike's u-lock key (the round kind) in every coke machine I come across. Somewhere out there is a coke machine waiting to give me free drinks. Unfortunately, it's not the one down the hall from my office.
Well, it's not that much worse than the rest of the South so I guess I never thought much about it. Plus, New Orleans has the good kind of hurricane to keep cool with.
Don't get too bummed. The other reason to go (aside from the architecture and food) is the culture! The city has been around for almost 300 years. I don't think the locals will let a little flooding (ok, a lot of flooding) destroy their heritage. I just hope my personal favorite little sandwich shop (Domelici's...one of many hole-in-the-wall places in a little neighborhood) has enough insurance coverage to come back. Sure some old buildings will come down but I don't think for a minute something bland will go up in their place. New Orleans burned in 1788 and 1795 but was built back (ever wonder why the French Quarter is mostly Spanish architecture?)
But seriously, you picked Michigan over New Orleans? That's always a poor choice.
I don't think Finland, Sweden, and Iceland can be compared to the US and Soviet Union in this situation because they aren't exactly the industrial powerhouses that the US is and the USSR was. If we were going to compare the energy consumed per person for all 5 of these nations we'd have to take all the energy consumed by the cold war and space race out of the equation. I still hold that the Soviet Union consumed more energy than the US because they were a cold, industrial nation and not because they were communist.
Actually the energy consumption in the Soviet Union was even higher than in the United States.
Think that might have anything to do with geography and not economics? A lot of Russians live where it is very cold a lot of the time. Most of the USSR was north of 50 degrees (the US-Canada border in the west is 49 degrees, IIRC).
I didn't think you were trolling but I wanted to cover all my bases anyway (and a good troll is hard to tell). Interesting about "child" being neutral in Greek. Sorry if I came off a little harsh.
It's not censorship but good parenting. The difference in your comment and the OP (aside from you referring to the child as 'it') is that you talk of raising in the past tense. If the person is still a child he or she is still being raised and seeing what they do on the computer is taking responsibility as a parent for what your child does and should be encouraged.
Or did I just feed the trolls? In which case I salute you.
Back when I lived in Texas I saw it when they made a stop on the way back to Florida. It's a really cool sight. Good article about it at space.com . According to the article the largest part of the $1 million is the travel expenses of the KSC employees who have to fly to Edwards on short notice.
Well, you're in luck. The two timezones with the most TV market are Eastern and Pacific. The broadcasters are lazy. The only reason they rebroadcast Pacific at the correct time (something at 8 Eastern is rebroadcast for 8 Pacific) is because so many people live there (including the broadcasters themselves) and don't want to watch primetime TV at 5 in the afternoon. They don't care about Mountain and Central.
Of course, I don't have any supporting evidence. But neither do you.
Won't that just force everyone to satelite radio? I'm sure that's the plan. Since we need upgrades forced on us like HD-TV etc. I'm all for HD-TV, one it doesn't cost me so much to get a good set.
The RF interference from the broadband over power lines would probably kill satellite radio, too. The interference wouldn't be limited to FM or AM frequencies.
Bastard proprietary jack (AKA iPod dock connector) because it's more than just line-in, it's also control.
Nice C&C reference.

Could you give that in kph?
What, international maritime units aren't good enough for you?
Wow, I am really gonna get modded down by the left handed, redheaded midget Mac users.
You're ok. I don't think Mike has any mod points this week.
I thought Valentine Michael Smith owned Mars.

All of these things are being investigated at the ISS, and the MIR as well I presume.
I highly doubt anything is being investiaged on MIR anymore. But I'm sure they used to.

Being robotic I'd imaging that their hairstyle could be fixed. Think how much money they'll save by not needing to buy hairspray.
There is no way a seagull could carry a shark.
Wait a minute -- supposing two seagulls carried it
together? No, they'd have to have it on a line.
Going for more of a Sting-movie look or Sci-Fi Channel miniseries look?
Oh man. Those are totally sweet. I wonder what the folks at work would say.
Soon the human race will become dependant on this just as we are on caffinee.
So when do I get my sweet glowing blue eyes?

The Fifth Estate may be protected by law to do what they do, but no law compels comapanies or individuals to cooperate.
The press is the fourth estate, not the fifth estate.
They do need chicken but they usually stop by Popeyes.

Consider this nit to now be picked.

Option C. The cost of stringing copper on all those poles the first time was so much that the government had to help.
