  1. Walking on How Do Geeks Exercise? · · Score: 1

Walking is the best way to keep in shape, it's normal to walk unlike jogging/running, doing that for long distances can be pretty hard on you, walking is better for your knees than jogging.

Consistency is important too, even if you can't walk far at least do a bit, even a step or two, just do something!

I went to the gym for years and never progressed much but walking is fantastic I've never been in better shape. Although it's tough to increase muscle mass by walking, you need some light strength training too.

When you see video of say, a fence, or some object with lines close together often the video is distorted when played back, you'd think there would be some way to project an image so it's able to be seen clearly by people's eyes but not able to be recorded due to a camera limitations.

Maybe a dual projector system and seeing that it's getting more common that a modern projector is film-less, all digital, it may be easier to modify it somehow.

That's what I do, it's a happy medium compared to magnetic or optical (dye) media, and it's non-spinning too.

It won't degrade due to shock, heat or magnetism like a hard drive may. You also have to consider the hard drive mechanisms that make it function; use it and it wears out, don't and it may corrode.

CDs and DVDs can be scratched, are susceptible to heat and may warp. Quality control is not so great since they make them in bulk by the tens of millions.

I say flash is the choice, multiple copies of it and keep it safe by not writing to it unless necessary. Sure it will 'leak' but the packaging is tough and the lack of moving parts is a plus too. With the advancements in SSD's flash media will only improve in quality in the next coupe of years.

  22. Why Should An ISP Care If You Use Encryption on Google To Develop ISP Throttling Detector · · Score: 2, Insightful

What I don't get is why an ISP would care if you encrypt things.

If you use encryption on your torrent connection you'd think that would be good for an ISP, if they're required by law to block people from downloading movies and songs but they can't see it since you're encrypting everything that should get them off the hook.

Bell Canada just seemed to just say screw this and started to throttle all encrypted traffic. Although they said it was because of bandwidth issues.

I say for an ISP ignorance is bliss!

  23. Re:Their traffic - shape it if you want on Legal Trouble For Multiple ISPs · · Score: 1

Speculators hope for a large difference in price depending on the situation they don't necessarily care if it goes up or down. If you're long you hope the price will go up if you're short you hope the price will go down.

Then there is hedging, you're both long and short, usually farmers do that to help with large price changes.

Arbitrage, where you can exploit the differences of markets that offer the same type of futures but due to time or communication differences you can swoop in an make a profit before they equalize.

Otherwise yes I agree, if it wasn't for futures this mess would be worse there would be far greater fluctuations in the prices of everyday goods.
