Go ahead and point out to me how many people have used Linux in their documented MAME cabinet project. I've visited nearly all the 800 or so cabinets submitted to BYOAC (even seen the ones that are gone/404'd now) I'd wager that I can count on one hand the number that were linux based (less than 5 out of 800, fairly uncommon I'd say). When people used underpowered machines in MAME cabinet they tended to use DOS, (which is what I did) because they were more familiar with DOS than linux. This guy's cabinet uses LINUX because that's what he is familiar with.
I know people have done it before. But did they document it on a website...? Did they use linux AND an arcade monitor using a VGA cable hack?
I've seen very few non-mutilator (which is a subjective label) MAME "conversions" of classic cabinets. Show me 3 examples of classic conversions (and they can't be any done by OSCAR ) besides this guys' millipede that were totally reversible/no damage to the original.
*shrug* YMMV but I don't care how much you pay for gas anyways.
A. He used linux (not totally unique but fairly rare in the MAME cabinet scene)
B. He MAME'd a classic cabinet but did not mutilate it. He took great care to make sure all his modifications reversible and not alter the original classic cabinet/game (upon penalty of death from his s.o.)
III. I dunno... but felt a third point was needed.
4. It was featured in Sci amercia... only cabinet to be featured there IIRC =P
It's not necessarily the best/ultimate MAME cabinet... but it is unique and has enough unique about it to be of use/interest of those in the MAME cabinet building community. (especially if you considered using linux or mameing a classic cabinet without mutilating it... I still have nightmares from the MAME'd star wars cabinet and the guy who cut the wings off a Mint Dig Dug to fit a 4 player control panel...*shudder*)
freemameroms.com
you know... the tombstones-esque mame rom cd burning service...
That's what I did for my mame cabinet so i could relive the classics on "real" controls...

That's kinda funny - using the original voice recordings...
They ran out of money , or so the legend goes, so they couldn't have real voice actors so they used people on the crew.. i.e. daphne's voice was the office secretary, etc...

>I have a colecovision and a handful of games, that >doesn't entitle me to run anything other than THOSE >versions of THOSE games in mame.
actually, no... it might give you license to run those game images in MESS's colecovision emulator... but unless you have the ARCADE PCB you only making yourself feel better about your piracy... Of course you're still better than me... I don't even have the colecovision carts of the games in my MAME cabinet... *Shrug*
quickssl bought out and uses equifaxes (if i recall correctly) cert company/business.. and uses that authority which most browsers going back to at least 3x or earlier (for ie and netscape) that are recognized without popup/error/warnings.
FWIW I've used this cert before for a site.. it was quick, easy , and cheap...
It's my understanding you used to work at an ad agency or other type of marketing gig. Do you use some of the same creative juices to come up with some of the parodies and themes for the show?
Another Independent game festival and a pretty addictive java based browser based game insaniquarium (it starts off slow, is a simple game, and carpal tunnel inducing, but stick with it, it gets better)
The Antares Autotune has been available in rack form for quite a while... You'd be surprised how many rock acts lean a little too heavily on that device to clean up their live vocal performances...
hell Rosie O'donnel thanked the device in her christmas CD (although c'mon... in-tune/key bad music is still bad music)
Job Fair (just left a resume in a box and got a call back in this instance), Monster.com listing, and finally sunday paper ad (never thought I'd get that one).
the what color is your parachute book has a lot of neat info for job seekers FWIW. My philosophy (like anyone cares) is to spread it around... check monster, visit company sites that you know are in the area, hit up friends that work at places you'd like to work at, job fairs, newspaper(s), etc... something is bound to turn up... right?! =P
"Be that as it may, portability is a sorry excuse these days not to include a GUI,"
The source is available, if you feel up to that task =P But if you are just figuring out the "OK" answer, I doubt you're up to it.

UberCade
It doesn't run Linux, but I do have a removable star wars yoke, so that should count for something, right?

Good call...
I forgot all about that one.
I also want to mention Mr. Big from the arcade game NARC (which you could "vote" for at the end of the article) He was just sickly hard to defeat.
