OT Rant, but this is something I deal with everyday.
I work for a public school system (webmaster) and I have a lot of in-school dealings with teachers and students. In my specific county, there are countless good, dedicated teachers that come up with excellent ideas (like yours) that would entertain students brains, teach them new things, wow them with the power of science and education - all of those good things that makes a kid want to learn on their own - but these ideas are shot down by the board of education and administration.
Why?
There are so many problems. I went through 4 iterations of this paragraph before giving up. Modern parents (25-35) don't have adequate coping mechanisms for real life stress largely due to PCorrect thinking/training of the past decades. I have to better explain myself, but most of the day to day problems I see come from that root cause.

I've got a 10gb ipod (original), and the battery -like so many others- was offering less and less time for playback. I reset the whole thing with the 1.3 Update, and *bam* it's back to 10ish hours (long flight verified).
It's like trademark/copyright/surmark protection (one of those things at least..). To justify in a court of law, you have to vigorously defend your property, etc. Sure, we all know it's a waste, but they keep their legal muscle by flexing their legal muscle.
which is a shame because Uru/Myst is the only monthly charge game I've ever been interested in playing.
I'm only one person so my $$ wouldn't do much, but the fact that they left out an entire game community (Mac gamers) that tends to enjoy more the Myst style gaming experience was a real shotgun-to-the-foot kind of mistake.
A large part of this design is probably lower heat/energy on the part of the CPU. While current G5s are still a beast compared to G4s, they're still cooler and use less power than P4/AMD cpus.
Shouldn't we consider it a general religious imperative to learn what we can about where we came from and what else there is, starting with the history of other planets (including the life on them, if any)?
The religious response would be that faith tells us where we came from, and that everything not understood/unexplained is a matter of faith, etc.

I highly doubt all that many people fall for spam.. it's more likely that the effort involved to spam is really not that much.
Some people do things to be annoying just because they get off on annoying people. Probably the same thing with spammers. If it's easy and they feel satisfied, why not?
SkyOS won't ever 'blossom' as Linux has because the guy who is writing it doesn't release source and is quite adamant about never releasing the source freely/publicly.
I think the fact that he has a 4 digit /. ID is exactly why he doesn't know the quote ;-)
Now low 5-digits, that's a whole other story...

Why do they even bother anymore?

What's up with you allowing your younger kid to play Vice City?
Why do any of the above? Because I just ain't average enough for the prebuilt stuff

Some of us prefer to be atypical
WHY not?
That's enough purpose for most of us here..

I've never really felt Windows was ready for the desktop (look at all the security vulnerabilities), so who cares if Linux isn't either.

SCO looks like it's trying to make a final hurrah to ensure it has a legacy with which it will be remembered.
Why are they doing this? Are they aware of their company crumbling from the inside *before* this Linux attack started?
