So if you don't want the locked down version why not just do that instead of buying a Chrome OS computer? (Not you specifically, I just mean in general).

Thank you! I'm still in college and between my wife and I were still considered "poor". I don't get any money from the government, and I do just fine!

I don't waste 10 percent of my income on cigarettes. I don't waste money on buying lottery tickets every day. I don't waste money on expensive cable when I can watch hulu at any time (and net is pretty much necessary for school, although I could go without if I absolutely had to). We buy groceries from Sam's Club once a month and stock our freezer full of more than enough good food. We don't have kids yet because we're smart enough to know that you shouldn't have children unless you can afford them!

Also, I hear people complaining about how expensive it is where they live. I wonder if they realize it's not very expensive to move to another state? You can take your one week vacation, rent a cheapo u-haul and drive to another state fairly inexpensively.

There are a few people in the world that do everything right, and still get boned due to circumstances. I will be the first to admit that. But there is also a large number of people who make themselves poor with their own choices.

I'm just saying it would be even worse than it already is. I'm not saying that rich kids don't currently have advantages.

It does seem a little bit different in my mind though. A middle class family can easily not smoke crack, give their child decent healthcare and education, and at least get them to a somewhat close level to the rich kids. In either scenario the poor are left hugely disadvantaged. What genetic engineering would do is create a broader gap between the middle class children and the upper class children than currently exists.

Whether or not it is immoral is something I can't really decide. It would definitely make a cool sci-fi movie though.

I'm guessing he would have already compared set rates with other competitors and filed a contract with one of them for X amount of dollars a month for "fire insurance." Or maybe he would just have house insurance that covers fire damages and not give a crap if his house burned down, since he would get a brand new one with new stuff from the insurance money.

Just speculation. I'm not a libertarian.

It's mainly what Dthief said. Should people really be able to choose the DNA of their children? It's tied to the genetic engineering debate. If you think there is disparity between rich and poor now.... imagine when all the rich people can have their kids genetically altered to be smarter, more athletic, more mentally stable, better looking, ect. Not only would these children start off with the benefit of being rich and having connections, they would also be physically and mentally superior humans to the poor people. It's already near impossible for a poor person to become a rich person in a single lifetime, I can imagine it would be completely impossible once this has been going on for awhile.

Every single game company (more or less) has used the 4 button scheme since the snes. Even the computer gamepads you can buy from logitech look exactly like a dualshock controller. There's no reason to believe this isn't just an Android phone with a playstation emulator on it. That would be good enough for me anyways. The only thing that keeps my using my psp instead of a smartphone is that my phone doesn't have real buttons. This would be perfect to load all my emulators on.

True but the penalty is ridiculous. If you get caught stealing 3 cd's at a store and you aren't even an adult yet, they will most likely just take them from you and call your parents. At most you will get a small fine for stealing under $100 worth of goods, which is only a misdemeanor.

If this becomes the norm we might as well start actually stealing from stores, since the penalty is so much smaller.

Actually this would be pretty awesome. Make them easy to switch out (all you have to do is plug in a cartridge that has the actual chip inside it hidden). Games would still be made to run on a standard console, but the upgraded versions would run on higher settings. Just make it the same way as PC games, only hide the graphics settings from the user. Medium settings would be a normal console, high settings an upgraded one. The system would automatically detect which version of the console you are using and run the game at those settings.
