  1. This seems like the ideal primer... on Sandia Builds Micromechanical 'Device Driver' · · Score: 0, Redundant

For a neural network. I mean, such a mechanism seems to lend itself to a net. If it can indeed mimic these basic functions, they're sitting on a goldmine - maybe they'll even be able to reproduce simple biological functions... we'll see.

  2. Correct me if I'm wrong... on Review of Pay Napster · · Score: 1

But aside from the uncommon "rare-music-searcher," don't people use Napster so they DON'T have to pay money? Sorry... but people are cheap and this'll never work.

  3. The Original iMac on Improving Computer Form Factors? · · Score: 1

Was a brilliant innovation for its time... using CRT technology (the only affordable measure), it redefined standards for space... the all-in-one, while evoking the Classic models and one such Power Mac, really put this form factor into public view.

  4. Tron... Digital? on Tron Special Edition On Sale January 15th · · Score: 1

Seemed like a logical step... I mean, a cyber-movie on VHS? Seems a little, uhm... oxymoronic.

  5. Truth is... on LindowsOS.com Email Lists Collected For MS Suit · · Score: 4, Insightful

No matter how reviled M$ is... the term Lindows DOES infringe on the name Windows...
Unless there's prior permission given by the company, it's illegal...
I mean, after all, if a company came along calling itself Lisney, and had a character named Lickey Louse, there would definitely be concern. Perhaps we must think in a broader, more even-handed perspective in order to fully grasp the basic facts of the case.

  6. Must resist... on Black Holes and Hidden Dimensions · · Score: 1

This is a first... I mean, we get the goatse.cx references on the NORMAL boards, but this is one on black holes! I say this at the risk of losing my precious karma.
    (Humor. Not troll.)

  7. BeOS as Embedded OS on Slashback: SmoothWall, Gopher, Be · · Score: 5, Interesting

BeOS makes quite a capable OS for embedded systems. It seems completely logical that a portable computing company would want an interest in them. It's one of the most efficient OSes (on a operation/cycle) level and it's compatible with many different boards (x86, PPC, 68k, etc). It's really a waste that Palm's letting it go... in some ways, it's the wave of the future, but I guess (to Palm) it's also a relic of the past.

  8. Re:The net to a halt..... on IETF Mulls Standard For Multimedia Messaging · · Score: 1

Exactly how many terabytes will this server have? That's one hell of a cache.

  10. This is all good, but... on Mars Odyssey Completes Aerobraking · · Score: 0, Troll

Are they sure to be using ONLY metric or ONLY US measurements? 'cause all this aerobraking stuff sounds nice and dandy, but if they're mistakenly using inches instead of cm in one measurement when computing the trajectory, this thing's going straight past the planet...

  11. More Wil Wheaton! on Star Trek TNG DVDs · · Score: 1, Funny

  12. Re:How will they use it? on I Want My MTV... PC? · · Score: 1

Well, what about BSD Unix (pick a flavor, any flavor)? Using BASH, you can do just about anything you want in no time. 15 seconds is enough time to delete all of those Britney mp3s... Just "rm -rf" and you're done!

  13. Pamela Lee... on 10GHz Processors and Ultraviolet Lithography · · Score: 1

Now that Silicon's gonna be obsolete, I think she'll have to go with UV breasts... I can see it now.

  14. Don't the porn spammers realize? on Lawsuits Against Spammers · · Score: 2, Insightful

I must have recieved 200 e-mails on "farm action" and "hot family sex." I've never visited any such site nor have I ever responded to their e-mails... what makes them think that I'm suddenly gonna be interested in these deviant sexual activities... they should offer uhm... I dunno... NORMAL sexual behavior? I mean, hot playmates and stuff. They've gotta get their act together and stop catering to this select audience of sickos -- rather, they should attempt to appeal to the masses.
    Sorry. Venting. Thank you.

Perhaps these people can succeed where Da Vinci failed. The amount of human power necessary to drive a plane is insanely great. See his journals for sketchings of his ideas... they are actually remarkably similar to this... only now, we're "cheating" by using a microchip and high-tech fibers. I'll believe it when I see it in this Raven.

  24. Does this mean... on Laser Pointer Holograms · · Score: 1

  25. Power Issues... on No More Sweaty Mouse Hands · · Score: 4, Insightful

I can't imagine that it's a good idea to draw extra power off the bus. Without the proper regulations/driver information, this "cool" hack could quickly lead to a very "hot" fire.
