Would imply that there's some sort of net work (read net_work, not network) being done. The electric grid spanning the continent produces no net power because of the consumption taking place. Yes, individually the plants are machines, but taking the composite grid into perspective, it is no longer a machine. Sorry. I like arbitrary semantics.
"Which technology will be the first to threaten, or save, or improve, or inconvenience, our lives: biotechnology (gene sequencing/synthesis, retroviral agents, protein analysis/design) or nanotechnology (borg nanoprobes in our blood)? " Actually, midi-chlorians have already ruined a good 3 hours of my life.
"but instead will resemble more of a kaleidoscope" Oh, yeah. Just what I want. Just when TV was getting crappy enough (all reality shows, all the time), now it'll make me physically dizzy. THANKS, genius executives.
Sounds like the premise for a bad Kids in the Hall sketch, with one of the gang on fire and acting totally low-key about it. Either that, or I'm amazingly sleep deprived. Mod with your heart, not your intellect!
They turn me down for a Nobel. Then they turn me down for an Ig Nobel. Now, the Genius Grant passes me over. Why don't I get some recognition for my first-hand studies on the effects of sleep deprivation due to intense Slashdot reading? Dear Lord, WHY???
Spam laws are kind of like the US gun control laws. They're all fine and dandy, but until the existing laws are enforced, they really mean nothing. And the greater restrictions probably just annoy law-abiding citizens. (Now, I'm all in favor of gun control. Just not more legislation until the ATF actually does something.)
I use my TIVO(c) DVR and I can fast forward through any of those annoying commercials. Did I mention that I love my IKEA(c) bed? It's so comfortable. Now, let me finish typing this on my APPLE(c) Powerbook G4.
The Arpanet address. *sigh* I miss the days when this dang intra-web-thingy wasn't so big and without all those fancy bells and whistles. Gee golly, it gets confusing, Jeb!
"Spam And Alston - From Luddite To Pin-Up?" Am I the only one picturing an older man in an undershirt, suspenders and short pants as a centerfold? (Not to mention a dozen broken monitors behind him.)
Actually, the engineering school is 100 students/grade, and the school keeps a copy of every required book in the library. So, in a sense, if you couldn't afford the book, you could theoretically use the library for all your work. And before you say, "Can't afford it? What about tuition?" -- it's a tuition-free school. So yeah. Woo! Full-scholarship! [/gloat]
At my school, we kept PDFs of the student solutions manuals on the school network. This was probably a violation of copyright law, but it's an effective countermeasure to being charged $40 for a tiny paperback book.
goatse.cx. Now, if that's not a TERROR-ist site, what on earth is?

The #1 internet vulnerability is Windows.
Will "sudo rm -rf" will delete my phone?

Doesn't Heidi Fleiss have a doctorate in the field?

I always outfit my software in khakis, loafers, a short-sleeve button-down shirt sand a pocket-protector. Talk about SFVs!
I, for one, welcome our genius overlords.

They already know me by the trail of my dead. So I'm kinda screwed anyway.

The classic arcade game "Discs of Tron" has been renamed "Discs of SELLING OUT."

Duane "Dog" Chapman was pretty good for me. See?
And how many of them will be sued next year after lapsing back into their MP3 addictions? Hmmmm...
It's a shock... I mean, the fact that the quality's bad. Really, a company that spends a great deal of money on advertising producing a poor product?
Two words: fair use.

The government wants to TAX us more? I'm deeply shocked!
(I'm becoming more and more Libertarian by the day, I tell you.)
1) Insult Microsoft!
2) ???
3) Get fired!
(Surprisingly, this is accurate.)
