Actually, no. Somebody else laid down the cash to turn Linux into Linux (tm), who then tried to extort money from anyone using the word. Linus and others managed to get the trademark defeated. -----------
Now it's possibly the most ridiculously commonly ported OS (what with all the embedded ports). Are you sure? I think that NetBSD is the most widely ported OS. -----------

I remember blowing lots of time playing HoMM II; when it becomes available for Linux, I'll be unable to accomplish anything. (Then again, considering how much time I waste at/., nobody will notice.) -----------
This is being released so soon after the big CSS leak, and suspect that's no coincidence. Perhaps with that bit out, they can release enough to play DVD's without breaking NDA.
One thing: Is there any official confirmation from Creative that these drivers will be released, since they aren't out yet, and we only have linuxgames' word on this? -----------
You seem to imply that a contract is a contract no matter what. That's just plain wrong from a legal point of view.
Some notable exceptions in the common law: - A contract entered into for the purpose of committing an illegal act is null and void. - A contract entered into by a minor is null and void. Actually, IANAL, but I've heard that a minor can enter into a contract, but said minor can back out of the contract at any time. - And especially... a contract which nullifies your ability to make a reasonable living is null and void. Also know that the judge has wide discretion here since this is a common law case and no written law is involved. While he has to follow precedents from higher courts, the rest is up to his own judgement.
One of the Tenchi Muyo specials would be especially popular for this group - it's a major spoof on Microsoft, complete with Gates and his attempts to monopolize the Japanese Computer market.
For those who are interested, see "Pretty Sami: The Magical Girl, episode 2". -----------
I'll second this one. Although the movie isn't centered around computers, they do play a fairly important role. (An idol singer turned actress discovers that somebody has a website about her, which shows a disturbing knowledge about her, and there was email being sent around.)
Actually, about a month ago, Missouri passed a very vague bill over the governor's veto. That bill can be interpreted in a way that makes shooting doctors legal. I hope the courts don't take it that way. -----------
No... the board is turned so that black is advancing up the board (look at the suggested moves). So black is very far from promoting, and white is almost ready to get a second queen. -----------
Also, they also mentioned that the average uptime was 318 days, and that one had been running continuously since it was turned on in April 1998. I don't think RH 5.1 was yet available, and considering all the trouble that RH 5.0 had, I can understand them skipping that release. -----------
Man (Woman would be more appropriate in this case) of the Century: either Admiral Grace Hopper (inventor of FORTRAN, the first non-assembly programming language, which is a big part of why computers are so pervasive)
I thought that she invented COBOL, not FORTRAN. -----------
xanim loads the entire AVI into memory first, decompresses every frame (requiring enough memory to store all the decompressed frames which probably causes your computer to swap), and then plays it back.
Try "xanim +f <filename>"
That works just fine for me. (I've played 20-30 Mb files with instant startup.)
I don't know about the extra pixel copying thing, though.

I had the same problem at one point; I fixed it by getting an RF modulator (about $30), so that's not really an advantage of Beta.
However, you can tape DVD->Beta, and not get Macrovision troubles, which is cool.

Well, as far as I know, every copy of the kernel source has a file: /usr/src/linux/Documentation/logo.gif
Or is Tux distributed as some other format now?
