I would really like to see some unbiased numbers supporting this assumption. I will say from hiring and firing employees for the last 10 years I've found something a bit different. The handful of homeschooled applicants/employees I've dealt with have been either religious zealots or people that need a helicopter manager who will spoon feed them. Their ability to operate independently and think beyond the parameters provided has been mediocre at best.

True. But the teaching moment is found in not replacing the broken toy. If there is no realization that the toy had value and that the value requires effort to replace....there is no lesson to be learned.

There is also a lesson for the parent. Protect your investment. Buy a nerf cover for your child's DS. Collect the loose DS cartridges and put them in a safe place, unbeknownst to the child. When the child misses his favorite game, explain where it is and why it is there. If the child repeats said behavior, remove the game from play for an extended amount of time.

Teaching your kid that they are some kind of special Golden Child who will have every desire serviced or that immediate gratification is the way of the world is a serious disservice to both the adult they will become and the world that will have to put up with them. Quite frankly, I'm really getting tired of seeing these adults in the workplace. And yes....I have two children. 10 and 6. The 10 year old had to save his money and buy his first DS. The 6 year old understands that his first one was free because he didn't have an allowance at the time....but if it is damaged it will be replaced with his funds (which may take months or a year to build up). Teaching your child the hard realities of personal or financial responsibility is part of your duty to that child.

I took my 6 year old and 10 year old to see it....and don't recall any scenes as being cringeworthy with regards to how appropriate they would be for a 6 year old. He had a great time and did get a bit bored in some of the scenes that were heavy on the dialogue. The PG-13 rating is (I believe) based solely on the rock-em-sock-em bash-em-with-a-shield violence. The Red Skull might give him nightmares....and the violence might not be appropriate if you are very sensitive to that sort of exposure.

So Mr. Vaughan-Nichols has a very high opinion of himself.....and yet somehow with one of the simpler platforms it took him seven days to figure out what he can nail in 4 hours with a complex OS. Read the article....wasn't impressed. Sounded like journalist drivel. All fluff and no meat.

I have some android apps that are low resource and very simple. Their interfaces are intuitive and polished. The problem is that many android apps are mostly functional, but lack any polish and the interfaces/documentation is abysmal. All of you over sensitive clods whining about the phrase 'pulling a Jordan' need to just step back and look at it. Jordan had a good arc supposedly planned out. 3-4 books.

He started making good cash on his books.....and suddenly started writing by the pound. Spending an entire page describing a few blades of grass or a barmaids perfect breasts. He stretched the series either intentionally or because of a horribly inflated ego and the lack of a decent editor who would slap him around and cut his bullshit.

So he turned a 3 book series into a 13+ book series......or from another viewpoint....a guaranteed lifelong income. If you read his blog posts or his interviews as the series dragged on, he got progressively more full of himself and felt entitled to fan adoration. He was an ubergeek rockstar...and managed to milk it up until his death.

So yes, pulling a Jordan is a bit heartless in that it refers to not finishing before dying.....but it is as much if not more about the attitude that made that fact a reality.

Oddly enough, it works just fine for the power user or joe six pack. Cars are also customizable to a degree.....and most people handle those just fine, even if they keep them bone stock. During that time, I've really tried to buy into the Apple koolaid. iBook, Macbook pro, clamshell, top of the line aluminum iMac. All had hardware failures. Admittedly, some were very minor and didn't interfere with standard day to day operation...... But the flip side is that I've owned any number of Dells, HPs, and IBMs in that same period....with no where near a 100% hardware failure rate.

Maybe all four of them were lemons.....but when you start looking around at support forums and talking with fanbois about more than the sleek look...... GUI and CLI should both be well designed and complimentary in nature. They are excellent tools and suit their own set of admin needs.

To use his example, Halflife had realistic weapon LOADING long before Halo. Rise of the Triad had realistic weapon LOADOUTS long before Halflife. Personally, I love Halo and found it to be a blast to play...but hate console controllers. I will credit Halo as bringing FPS into the mainstream via consoles and it had a number of unique twists on prior models......but.....it's not a particularly unique game overall. Excellent implementation within an existing genre, but only groundbreaking in that Microsoft used it as a vehicle to push FPS and real competitive gaming to the unwashed console masses.

I have no idea how your posts got so many mod points.....either people love trolls with a flair for drama or (more likely) it's being modded by a bunch of kiddies who busted their FPS cherries on Halo.
