IP theft is a problem, but if Trump wants to confront China effectively, he would need Europe and the rest of the world on our side to confront China as a unified block. Any trade expert would advise Trump the same and Trump may even know this. But I don't think Trump cares about results. He's more interested in motivating his base to turn out in November. So this is really a non-event. I just wish the media would finally wise up that 99% of Trump is hot air and stop covering him or his antics. We need to De-Trump our selves.
I'm a professional pilot and this is a very bad idea for the safety of air travel. We rely on weather forecasting to make decisions about how much fuel to carry, what diverts to plan, and to make decisions if the flight can be safely conducted or not. The public benefits in many not so obvious ways from weather forecasting. Getting on an airplane with a good expectation that you will safely reach your destination, or not run out of fuel going to a weather divert is just one of them. The President should think of that next time he gets on Air Force One, or in his private 757. Making weather information freely and publicly available increases the safety for everyone in the air and on the ground.
My political rant for today: I suspect there's a lobbying bonanza going on in the background and all of these privatization initiatives coming out of this administration and this congress have more to do with cronyism than the common good. When a Republic stops representing the common good, it is no longer a Republic, but a Plutocracy or an oligarchy. This is the bigger issue of our time, not collusion, not Trump, and not any of the other issues being touted in the media. Having an NWS is in the public's best interest.
....Never mind if we ever get to a point where you can 3D print your own AK-47 that can fire 30k rounds without the receiver breaking or the barrel exploding in your face like the original can or... hand grenades?... RPG's?
You could make small arms with conventional machine-shop tools. Why is this always an issue when people talk about 3d printing??? No-one is saying, "if you let people buy a hobby lathe, they could start turning out hand grenades and rifle barrels."
Why does Manning get so much public attention, and why do we allow Manning to personally profit from this stupid war? IMHO, what Manning did, did not shorten the war in Iraq by one single day, nor did he save one single Iraqi life. All that Manning did do was to disobey a lawful order that he personally disagreed with.
Why do we continue to elevate Manning above other Iraq- Vets who in many cases were wounded or died actually trying to help the Iraqi people or save Iraqi lives? Why is Manning any better than all the wounded or KIA American service men and women who never will be able to come home or lead a normal life? Or why is Manning better than all the Iraq- Veterans who followed orders, did not commit any war crimes, and did their duty in that place?
If Manning wants to make a positive difference, maybe rather than running for office, he should volunteer to help wounded veterans in a hospice or a rehab clinic. Maybe he should anonymously donate all the money he receives from his undeserved fame to helping wounded and homeless veterans get the help they need.
Already one of Big Cable's best friends in Congress, Marsha Blackburn, who has taken more than $600,000 from the industry, is pushing for legislation....
That's how our political system works. You need bribes, -cough- I mean campaign contributions, to get elected. Once elected, you have to do what your donors want you to do, even if it's at odds with the best interest of your constituents or the well being of the country. Conversely, if you're a special interest group and want to enact your agenda, you need to bribe, I mean make enough campaign contributions, to get your agenda passed into law. Who's bribing politicians on the behalf of net- neutrality???
Both parties are doing this, so this isn't a Republican or Democratic thing.
The study is absurd at the outset because they have a ridiculous definition of wisdom.
....Less educated and less affluent people have much higher rates of divorce and domestic violence....
Maybe if you're stuck in a bad marriage with a wealthy spouse, you would be more likely to maintain that marriage for reasons other than love. The wealthy spouse would rather not go through the expense of a divorce. So they buy separate homes and find a workable relationship. The point is the less affluent cannot buy their way out of difficult situations, so have to come up with other coping strategies.
....I've often wondered how people with ordinary jobs and incomes live in bubble areas like this. Metro NYC is a good example, and there's a lot of stratification in the suburban towns because of it....some places are just "working class towns"....There are so many more affordable places to start up a business!
That's exactly the point. People say "if you can't afford it, don't live there". But where should the police, firefighters, ambulance, teachers, etc. live? In CA, most of these public workers earn just enough, they cannot qualify for "low cost" housing, but also cannot afford to live near where they work.
It will be interesting when the "big one" (earthquake) arrives and people in some of the more affluent areas will suddenly realize there are no emergency services because all those workers are staying home to take care of their own families, or are unable to make the two- to three- hour commute because all the roads are out.
I'm not in tech any more, but in the airline industry, doing what I love. The first question after they offer you the job is usually, "could you be based in SFO, LAX, or JFK?". The airlines cannot find enough pilots, cabin crew, etc. to staff those bases. So in event of an earthquake, don't count on having air service.
"As someone who comes from MS-DOS/Windows PCs background..."
Does anyone even still run MS-DOS anymore, except for certain niche applications? I guess in that case I come from a DOS 3.3 background (Apple 2 DOS), but I only admit it after about the fifth beer or so.
If you define psychopathic as "only caring about me, me, me", I worked there. What they did do was drive away talent. I saw the best engineers leaving, one after another. I'm not so talented, but decided to follow their example.
The only thing that "wears out" on a CRT is the phosphate coating on the screen, not the electron gun or the deflection coils. The phosphate coating could be refreshed, but it's an expensive and probably risky procedure.
After Uber's CEO was caught berating one of his own cab drivers because the driver dared to say he wasn't being paid enough and couldn't earn enough....
I once worked at a company where most people complained about being poorly compensated. When I eventually left for a better job, I got into a friendly argument with several former colleagues. They accused me of "leaving for the money". I told them that if they were unhappy with the pay, they should just find another job. And that applying for jobs is easy once you get your resume in order, and even if you don't accept the offer, it gives you an idea what you're worth to other companies or in other industries. But everyone seemed to have 1000 excuses. The consensus seemed to be the "company owes us and we're not leaving till we get paid." As far as I know they're all still working there and waiting to get more fairly compensated.
Most of us live in a capitalist economy where management are constantly looking for ways to reduce costs. The only way to to deal with management on equal terms is to be respectful and loyal, but also to be willing to leave when you find a better opportunities. It took me several years to figure this out, but my life improved dramatically once I did.
I'm just impressed that there are 355,000 people who eat at Arby's
It's probably a money laundering scheme. I used to be sort of a regular at an Italian restaurant that never seemed to have many customers. The food wasn't bad at all and the staff actually spoke Italian. It was kind of fun to think that syndicate bosses were meeting behind the kitchen, but that would have probably been too much of a cliche, even for the mob. They probably run an Arby's instead.
No. He lacks a crucial qualification....He does not have the ability to avoid getting caught....
FTA, he got caught and is now running another company that is buying and selling the IP rights from his former company and he's on a world vacation. It just goes to show the weaknesses in our system. We put a cashier in jail who stole change from the cash register at Walmart, but commit white collar fraud and breaking all kinds of corporate laws, no big deal. What vexes my mind is he still can apparently find investors to keep giving him money.
I took a job in an area where you could own land, have a large house, and a nice quality of life. The problem was my employer was the only game in town and as a result, management had a "my way or the highway" philosophy. Eventually I got frustrated and quit. Everything comes with plusses and negatives. A good area to live and have a family is like a triangle; balancing employment opportunities, quality of life, and cost of living. My last job was in one corner of the triangle, San Francisco is in a different corner. I am seeking the middle.
They take this long to die??? Something's wrong here and I'll give anyone a million Stanley Nickels to tell me what it is.

Because you never know when you're flying car's gonna break down and don't want to get stuck up there on the astro highway.
Are they hiring people who fought in Kashmir against Pakistan? ...
Maybe IBM's hiring Gurkhas. They defeated a much stronger Imperial Japanese force armed only with keyboards.

Most of his followers would just consider that a "progress counter".
That this discusssion will get Godwin'd very quickly
I guess if Microsoft started agitating for Windows in beer halls.

Don't tell the POTUS...otherwise he'll adopt a new naming scheme for them, involving his name.
There isn't an asteroid big enough to bear his ego.
So what. ....This isn't some testament to the quality of macs.
No, but it certainly highlights one of their possible uses.
