  1. Re: ... We will be able to do this in 4-8 years on Verizon Set Back Again in DMCA Subpoena Case · · Score: 1

Right now most college students still aren't real familiar with computers, but from my experience at high school everyone knows about file sharing. Everyone talks on AIM now, everyone runs kazaa, even the guys who booze over the weekend. The 4 year difference between my college sister and my highschool self is HUGE concerning the ability to use and understand computers. We may have to wait, but once these younger computer users who grew up with file sharing and AIM turn 18 rallying for this cause will be possible.

  3. I have realized something.. on Alternate Reality Games Grab Mindshare · · Score: 1

All these reality games are extremely, utterly pointless. Don't get me wrong, I love playing them, but games like The Sims (which I loved playing) is such a waste of time its so crazy that they are a blast to play. When you think about it your spending your time making someone shower, eat, work, and socialize. Games like this and other online games are of course fun, and playing them is fun for a while. I am writing this not to bash these games, but to make people think twice before they commit all their time to silly games like this. Just really think about it, and why it is fun, and what other things you could be accomplishing.

Please get over the show people. To be so attached that you are considering funding the show? That is just insane. There are much better things to do with your time than get caught up in TV or movies. All this stuff is imaginary and it is just taking you away from reality of the real world.

Now I am real confused, 802.11b is 10mbit, 802.11g is 54mbit. How is EvDO faster? Especially considering the fact that "The 1xEV-DO forward link rate ranges from 38.4kb/s to about 2.4 Mb/s. The reverse link ranges from 9.6kb/s to 153.6 kb/s. Both rates change dynamically according to what the link can support.". I don't like the sound of that. This technology may be good for cell phone networks but it is not a replacement to Wifi.

"Technicians test a technology known as EvDO that provides wireless data connections 10 times as fast as a regular modem."

But then later in the article they state it is much faster than wifi so I am a bit confused. I'd classify a regular modem as a 56k dialup modem. Does anyone know any actual speed measurements for EvDO?

you obviously dont know what you are talking about, svcd can be very high quality also, and vcd rips arent a few hundred megs

the rips you refer to are from lame warez channels and file sharing applications

its all about the source, vcd rips from screener vhs tapes are good enough to watch on a 27" tv and not notice a differnce from regular vhs movies(altho u may be able to see something on a side by side comparison).

TS can also be good, if they are done right, exensive camcorders and a direct audio source are wahts needed. most of the shit that gets to warez channels and p2p is terrible tho.
