  1. Re:Why this won't work on Microsoft Deploys Linux, Open Software in Test Lab · · Score: 1

The thing is, they aren't using this for straight up performance benchmarks.

What they are doing is conceding to the fact that many companies use a few linux servers on the backend, and wherever else.

They are letting companies come in and setup their whole network, including their linux servers, and see how they can improve the windows aspect of it.

The result of course is that companies that run Microsoft + something else are able to still remain on their setups, which otherwise may go to something else.

Maybe MS will try to prove that their products are better there also, but, that's now that this is all about. It's about trying to help out their existing customers with their existing setups (customers not MS's).

  2. Re:robots.txt on Googling Your Way Into Hacking · · Score: 1

Yes it should work exactly like this.

But google doesn't spider all of your pages all the time. And plus it may just throw the page up, and give the cache anyhow, since the page is "down". Semi archives it for you wether you like it or not.

  4. The real problem comes to view... on Technical Glitches Plague BuyMusic.com · · Score: 4, Insightful

We now see the real problem.

When an artist signs with a distribution point, etc, they may lose their own music. As a musician that would seem horrible, but it happens to many different people (animators, etc).

Maybe the contract with "The Orchard" had certain terms. We really would need to see that to get both sides of the story here...

Maybe they "sold out" and now just don't want to look like "crap" music.

  5. NiMH all the way on Rechargeable Batteries - Yes or No? · · Score: 1

On any high drain devices (read electronics) get a few sets of NiMH batteries.

This is especially true if you have a digital camera. Rayovac, energizer and the likes are all putting the batteries out in supply.

Thomas Distributing sells some MAHA chargers and batteries. The best batteries currently are PowerEx's at 2200Mah. The normal ones you buy in the store are around 1800, that means in actual use about a 10% gain.

The best thing is the charger is very versatile. My MAHA charger came with a car adapter, and a wall adapter. Plus got a European wall adapter for my recent trip to Europe, worked like a charm.

  6. They all do this... on Microsoft's Forgotten Mistakes · · Score: 1

I think all companies have large amounts of failures, or actually one big one.

The thing is they don't want it to look bad, so they don't cut their losses, but keep throwing money into it, hoping it will catch on. When it doesn't they lose even more.

I think it's expected that things won't catch on, and some things just sounded better than they actually were.

What does this say for their prized "Microsoft Innovation" however.

I can certainly see a 3 Dimensional printer being available, and transferring models, etc very easily.

The problem is, I can't see an electric motor working. Unless it winds it, makes the bushings, and the springs just so, it's not going to work.

I mean if this kind of thing was remotely feasible, we'd have everything built like this instead of how we do it now. Then again, maybe that's the revolution, and why it's so insightful :).

Sure I guess I'm supposed to be responsible for that, but, it's like me making sure he doesn't electrocute himself...since that's in my name also.

Becuase of this now, I basically can't work for any company who provides software via download or any company who sells something online. Which is insanely broad, and this is for a period of 1 year after employment is ended.

Sure I could have told them to stick it...but I need the job...so I get shafted...it sucks..I bet many other people are in this position.

Most people probably use some sort of this protection, I currently use Popfile, check it out at http://popfile.sourceforge.net. Open Source written in perl, naive bayesian spam filtering, works great. However we do need to somehow make it for we don't even have to sort this crap. An authenticated SMTP server, or something of the likes, a new standard could fix things, or at least help a ton.

I currently use Cloudmark, and since I own about 9 domains, and a few that catch a lot of different email addresses, I tend to get a lot of spam (well, only about 10 a day to the one account, about 30 to the catch all account), Cloudmark has caught every one except 1 I believe. For having a serious flaw, it works pretty good. I believe it takes a hash and then the hash of the emails are compared, so if the hash was loose enough, the random characters should not affect it. Then again I could be totally wrong in how it works.
