What happened to the Superman Lives movie where Nicholas Cage was supposed to play Superman? Quite frankly, I agree it's hard to picture anyone but Christopher Reeves in the role of Superman.
This article is just bad. The author doesn't have any pictures to go with the instructions. There's no shot of the "final product" etc. How does he expect people to be drawn into the mod without SHOWING what the mod looks like? sheesh, lame.
is at the Apple trailer site. What the trailer shows looks interesting. The environment seems somewhat reminise of the original Batman. Looking forward to it.
Sun not only needs to re-examine whether to deploy Solaris 9 for x86, but it needs to support x86 hardware much better. Ever try to get sound going on Solaris 8 for Intel? Ever look at the Intel Hardware compatibility list? it sux. This is where Sun looses out to Linux big time.
However, for some companies that standardize on Solaris for Servers, they like to keep that standard on intel since Sun did provide it.
I work for a University where I maintain 8 or so Sparc servers and 40+ intel boxes for a Lab. The university standardized on Solaris a long time ago. I've been trying to get them to switch to Linux, but *sigh* not going to happen. If Sun can get its act togethter, get better support, get an actual Journaling file system for intel like they have on Sparc (Veritas), it will make a stronger argument for companies that have standardized on Sun's OS.
Ok, you are correct, I probably asked my question wrong. I'm familar with the settings from the man page and use -O2 often myself, but I was looking for a general rule of thumb that can be applied to any program when compiling.
Thanks. I'll take a closer look at those specific options.
Next I edit/etc/make.conf, here I can choose compiler settings. I optimize everything for i686. Now it's time to build the GNU compiler and libraries.
This is one thing I've always been curious about. What "really" are the best gcc CFLAGS for i586, i686, AMD K6-2, etc?
considering they are just using regular gcc and not pgcc like Mandrake, what settings should be used? is there a site someware that lists these settings?
If their price is anything like their Kylix software, I won't buy it. Borland is just trying to capitalize on what we already have and try to draw more people to them. It won't work with that pricing scheme.
I maintain a university Lab of x86 Solaris 8 machines, as well as a bunch of sparc servers (like the new blade 1000). Sun's support of x86 hardware has been lack-luster at best. Solaris is still a Sparc OS.
Sun now has their Blade 100 sparc machines, which are PC-like (pizza box style), include firewire, usb, card reader, and more. Why should they support x86 Hardware? They only did it to compete with Linux. They Lost!
I was one of the beta testers for Office X. They've fixed many bugs since Office 2001 under Mac OS 9 and cleaned up the interface in Entourage. However, don't look for a full *nix port any time soon.
What MS Has done is comply with Apple's new API to the OS. Office X is NOT a UNIX application, it's still a Mac Application. All the code is Mac PowerPC code and uses Apple's "Carbon" and maybe some "Coco" code (but I'm not positive on the last one). It works well, it's fast and it's developed by a real Mac programming team as opposed to the abismal ports of Word 6 for example.
The truth of the matter is, Apple needs MS and MS Needs Apple (whether or not they want to admit it). I do not think that MS will be porting Office X to other *nixes any time in the future.
I've seen both T1 and T2, I don't know how they can even make a T3. There's no real story line. The T-800 was destroyed and T2, yet this link says:
the story is reportedly set 10 years after "T2" with a twentysomething John Conner and his T-800 cyborg pal, Schwarzenegger, doing battle with a female Terminatrix whose powers and morphing abilities exceed that of their previous nemesis.
I don't get it. All the equipment, research, and so forth that created the terminator were destroyed! why don't they just leave it alone. There doesn't need to be a sequel. If they do one,it will suck big time the same as the sequels to Highlander sucked because they ignored the story line and principles set forth in the first movie!
There are several linux only laptob vendors out there. Penquin computing, ASLabs, and more. I've seen several advertisments in Linux Mag and Linux Journal, SysAdmin, and other 'zines.
You're not looking too hard.
That said, I'd love to build my own laptop as well. I think it would be pretty cool. I build my own PC's (for me, family, friends, etc.) all the time.
That was an excellent film. I loved the use of the multiple panes so you can see concept art, the blue screen, and then the final product. Very well done. They should seek parts in an upcoming movie;-)
to have Linux as an access point to.NET? I'm afraid of all the problems that MS will cause for Linux and other non-MS operating systems in using.NET. Do we really want this? I'm not convinced myself.
It almost sounds like they are continuing from where the main series left off and don't consider Galactica 1989 when they found earth. Anyone remember that one?
I went to see the original movie in the theaters, then watched every episode (incl. Galactica 1989) on TV. Oh and yes, Buck Rogers (Erin grey was hot) and a couple other shows.
"I/my company is loosing money because there is a free alternative to my product that most people are using now instead of my product. So now I'm gonig to whine and cry and enforce a trademark I've never enforced before to try to recoup some cost."
Well according to the Bible, even THINKING about a woman to lust after her is adultery! so YES.
"Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." Matt 5:27,28.
I find it interesting that Slack 7.2 would include glibc 2.2 but NOT include XFree86 4.0.x. I applaud them for not including the new kernel yet but you'd think that if they include a develpment glibc they'd at least include a newer X instead of 3.3.6.
It's always a great sign when someone can joke around about their work. It shows dedication, committment, and they ENJOY the job. How many of us enjoy our jobs?
This is exactly why the company needs to be broken up into many more smaller companies, not just 2. M$ can still capitalize on the situation and still be a monopoly by operating "behind the scenes" as it were. If M$ were broken up into 5 companies, this problem is minimized.

This thing looks soooo much like the phone used by Val Kilmer in The Saint. Very cool. Don't know if I'll ever get one, but it's still cool.
Not only is the next Spider-Man (which was a great movie IMHO) in May 2004, but the release of the Hulk will be Summer 2003!

We had in Canada such a database for a while, but it was destroyed (or so they say) when it came to the public's ears.
Actually, what happened is the database was accessible from a single location. All that data was sitting in one spot making it an easy target.
All that data still exists, but is accross several databases and the single database has been destroyed (or so we Canadians can hope anyway).

I think MS is running scared. They have so many antitrust suits against them they had to do something to protect themselves.
Go Linux!!
They misprinted that. They corrected the statement the following issue.
I wrote for Max. Linux and submitted this story yesterday when I heard the news. But all I get is this:
2001-02-16 20:57:55 Maximum Linux Mag is toast (articles, news) (rejected)
Gee thanks guys.
Anyway, I'm sorry to see them go. I wrote many articles (Email compare, XF4, xinerama, more). I will miss them.

Just my opinion
